Bargain holidays for Westerners looking to get a bit of sunshine and a drink by the pool in the winter could be a thing of the past on Egypt's Red Sea coast.
The Muslim Brotherhood, which won success in the first round of parliamentary elections last month, is set on turning Egypt into a 'sin-free' holiday resort.
But the end of sun worshippers flying to resorts like Sharm el-Sheikh could spell disaster for an economy that has already been battered by this year's political unrest.

What a shame. I spent a wonderful month there in 1978 when Israel still had it. Worked in a motel that had a great bar/disco every night. In my spare time, I snorkeled some of the most amazing coral reef you can ever imagine. Unbelievable color and variety of coral and fish. 115 degrees in the shade most days, but dry as a bone. Used to get a rowdy crowd from the UN base at Ismailia on the Suez. Great times.

Radical Islamists taking over in Egypt will destroy Egypt. Let them. AS LONG AS we feel no need to save them from themselves, give them aid, or allow their citizens into the USA, I do not care that much.
Egypt has little industry. Half its citizens are illiterate. It imports most of its basic food commodities. It has little gas or oil. Its main earnings are 1) tourism and 2) remittances from Egyptian labor working elsewhere - and now they talk about banning foreigners. Their Treasury has enough foreign exchange for about another 4-5 months of imported food. After that, all they will have to eat are their Korans.

Westerners should consider vacationing at home. There’s hardly a western country that doesn’t have some spectacular spots. Not only will that help their struggling economies, but it will rob money from political hotspots and maybe give the Jihadist supporter in the street pause to think.
Also, there’s no reason to put westerner’s at risk by unnecessarily exposing them to kidnapping or terrorist murder.
