AG Holder: Government Has ‘Responsibility’ to Automatically Register Citizens to Vote

"All eligible citizens can and should be automatically registered to vote," and it's the government's "responsibility" to see that it happens, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said on Tuesday.

In a call to modernize voter registration, Holder noted that many elections officials still are manually processing new applications, many of them handwritten -- a situation that produces errors and confusion at the polls, he said.

A. G. Holder and Obama will take it further. Not only will all of us be automatically registered, our thoughtful government will automatically vote for us to save the trouble to go to the polls. If you go, no matter what box you finger touch on the screen will log you as for the Democrat candidate.

Sorry Holder, you corrupt turkey. If a US citizen doesn't have the intelligence to fill out a voter registration form or the desire to vote they shouldn't be voting and it's not up to the government to do it for them.

The operative phrase is “eligible citizens”.
The article doesn’t make reference to Detroit, the ideal Democrat bastion, but I have read that it has 40,000 more voters registered than there are person aged 18 and older (according to the last census). I don’t care about Detroit’s local government, it is reflective its citizens bad or worse, but when they vote in county, state and national elections their inflation affects those elections.

It is the CITIZEN’S responsibility to register to vote, not to be encumbered by the government or other parties, like ACORN, black panthers, etc.

Eligible citizens have a right to vote, but it's their responsibility to register.

Umm, voting is a responsibility & a priviledge, not a right. It is the governments DUTY to register all citizens eligible to vote.

Any American citizen should be able to walk into any voting booth and have thier vote counted. It is the governments DUTY to ensure that no citizen is denied this opportunity.

The government also has the DUTY to ensure that elections are fair, i.e. no double voting - only citizens etc ..., AND to ensure that reasonable efforts are made to allow citizens which may be obstructed from the polls a chance to vote (Military, disabled, etc ...).

Show me proof that voting is not a right.

From the Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Among the others, could voting be argued as a right also?

How many rights are "endowed by our creator"?

Since all elections are local (and therefore all registrations), how could registration be made automatic? How would the state know when someone moves? The state does not know who lives where unless they own their home (property taxes), own a car, have a driver’s license, work a regular job (if the state has state income taxes), or live on state welfare.

Even then, the state may not know you moved from one side of town to another (and another precinct).

If you live in an apartment, take mass transit, and live in a state without income taxes, the state may have no clue you exist. The municipality certainly might not.

This is a cost cutting measure by the Government. Now the Voter Fraud division of the Democratic Party will no longer have to deal with middle men like the Acorn bunch. They can pad the voting boxes directly on the tax payer dime.

See, there is financial reform in Congress!

Follow the totalitarianistic trend of such a decision - mandatory voting.

It would be a criminal act to be absent from your polling place and not casting a ballot on election day. It happens in some countries around the world today.
