PHOENIX—Arizona's two U.S. senators said Thursday they are concerned about reports of a large number of sex-crime investigations being botched by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office during a three-year period ending in 2007.
Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl issued a written statement involving the reopening of 432 sex-crime cases -- including dozens of alleged child molestations -- after the sheriff's office learned the cases hadn't been investigated adequately or weren't examined at all.
"Victims of abuse not only deserve the respect of law enforcement, but their rights must also be protected throughout the criminal justice process," the statement said.
The senators said they intend to back requests from other authorities for support from the U.S. Justice Department to properly investigate the cases from Arpaio's office and other police agencies.
Arpaio responded in a written statement: "I appreciate the offer of assistance by Sens. McCain and Kyl to help this office and other major law enforcement agencies in the valley (in metro Phoenix) that currently have the same problem we did back in 2007."

He's just smarter than the average bear and has gotten away with a lot of crap by being bombastic and arrogant.
He realized early on that elected Sheriffs in the western states have a lot more power and authority than Governors, US Senators or Congressmen, district court and federal judges, and POTUS.
The difference between him and every almost every other western-state county Sheriff is that he flaunts it and nakedly exercises it.
Most western-state sheriffs are still peace officers. this guy is a publicity hound.
The open-border crowd does not like anti-illegal immigration laws. Their goal is turn this state into another Kalifornia. Big Sis is behind some of this too.

Yet, he was just on both CNN and Fox News this week being asked to opine on SCOTUS taking up the AZ illegals case...which shows that he hasn't been marginalized, yet, and is still respected and credible, despite the attacks by Obama and Rovian operatives.
I know he's a navy vet and ex POW.
Of all the attempts to get zero on a birth certificate, it appears sherriff Joe has something.
If one is called a horses ass once, one can ignore the remark.
If twice, one should take a look to see what all the commotion is about.

As a Veteran I am thoroughly disgusted with McCain. Can’t say much good about the Kyl and his alternative life style either.
The “hidden agenda” here is perhaps that in Arpaio’s probe of Obama’s eligibility, the Sheriff may present the Senate Resolution 511 escapade of declaring John McCain a Natural Born Citizen.... he wasn’t and the Resolution gave cover for Obama...
Okay, flame away naysayers. I know what I’ve read, I know what I know and I know what I believe. Read “Obama Knew He Wasn’t Eligible For POTUS” and the subsection of Professor Chin’s dissection of McCain’s situation relative to his being born OUTSIDE the confines of the Naval Base. McCain was born in a hospital in Colon, Panama as there was NO maternity ward on the base. Tough shit if he had to to born off-base: he should choose his parents more wisely the next time around.
Bottom line: McCain was never qualified and I don’t give a rat’s ass if any Freeper or anybody else who says he was. McCain played “nice-nice” with Obama on this issue and McCain knows it and Kyl voted for SR 511.
Both of these traitors, McCain and Kyl, should be arrested for treason if they ever enter Maricopa County.
