WAPO's Hit Job on Gingrich
Hot Air Blog ^ | 12-16-2011 | Ed Morrissy

Today’s Washington Post carries a story about a “curious case in the annals of the FBI,” but the only curious aspect of the story is why the Post published it — with the headline FBI considered a sting aimed at Newt Gingrich in 1997. That implies that the arguable GOP frontrunner for President had committed some sort of conduct that was shady enough to get the FBI to propose an Abscam-like operation to take Gingrich down. However, that’s not the case at all, but you have to get past the lead paragraph to figure that out:

I'm not yet sold that Newt can win in any case--but this is the worst case of 'yellow journalism' I think I have seen to date in this year's campaign coverage.

Don't the MSM have editors with some pride in their profession anymore? Is this the best they can do in attacking a Republican? Where is the shame?

Hit jobs are what they take pride in. They are the measure of respect from the their self-selected insular peers.

Look at the hit job FOX tried on Newt in last night’s debate. But Newt won in spite of their Romney loving effort to take Newt down.

I am done with FOX.

The smallest book in the history of the world is the "Manual of Journalistic Ethics".

It has a front and back cover and no pages.

I have noticed Fox news has been stumping for Romney and bashing Newt every chance they get. It is astounding how many people are attempting to crucify Newt and push a liberal like Romney or a nut job like Ron Paul.

"The FBI document states that Soghanalian, Marianne Gingrich, Ash and Bennett spent several days together in Paris. Gingrich said “her relationship with her husband was purely a relationship of convenience,” the document states. “She told [Soghanalian] that she needed her husband for economic reasons, and that he needed to keep her close because she knew of all his ‘skeletons.’ ”

“She also told [Soghanalian], ‘It’s time for me to make money using my husband, and after we get started doing this, it will be easy,” the document says."

Marianne Gingrich calls this “hogwash,” and it’s not to difficult to see why. She and Gingrich had been married 14 years by the time of this meeting in 1995, and they’d be divorced five years later, so it doesn’t appear that Gingrich was terribly afraid of “skeletons” nor she of life after divorce. Furthermore, she had a job that paid her well and involved enough trust for her employer to send her to Paris to drum up investment business, which makes the claim that she was so dependent on her husband that she couldn’t afford to leave him look somewhat preposterous.

A part of me thinks that of all the bad decisions the Warren Supreme Court made, “Sullivan v. New York Times” was the worst of all.

Funniest part of the debate is when Meghan (Thank God Newt is not winning Iowa) Kelley...so beautiful but so RINO...

...asked the tough judge question with super loaded adjectives such as crazy, loony, preposterous etc....and Gingrich brought the House down with applause.

In the post debate analysis, wither Cavuto or Wallace said that was Gingrich’s biggest applause of the night (on Meghan’s question).....Megs had to get a dig in and state “that will help him in the primary but hurt him in the General Election.

Nice job Meghan Kelley, giving Newt the biggest applause of the whole debate lmao.

Yeah, Newt kicked her little fanny all over the place. I think she believes that lawyers should be in charge of everything. She’s as bad an elitist as anyone in Obama’s cabinet.

(excerpt)

Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Newt’s experiences as the son of a career soldier convinced him at an early age to dedicate his life to his country and to the protection of freedom. Realizing the importance of understanding the past in order to protect the future, he immersed himself in the study of history, receiving his Bachelor’s degree from Emory University and Master’s and Doctorate in Modern European History from Tulane University. Before his election to Congress in 1978, Newt taught History and Environmental Studies at West Georgia College for eight years. He represented Georgia in Congress for twenty years, including four years as Speaker of the House.

Newt served on the Defense Policy Board under President George W. Bush, which provided strategic counsel to the Pentagon and Secretary of Defense on how to better address threats facing the United States. He is also the longest-serving teacher of the Joint War Fighting course for Major Generals at Air University and taught officers from all five services as an honorary Distinguished Visiting Scholar and Professor at the National Defense University. In 1999, Gingrich was appointed to the United States Commission on National Security/21st Century, the Hart/Rudman Commission to examine our national security challenges as far out as 2025. The Commission’s report is the most profound rethinking of defense strategy since 1947.

Any failing of the modern MSM to live up to traditional journalistic standards is greatly outweighed by the praise they receive from the darkside. To them, "shame" equates to failing to glorify the Left. The "media" take great pride in taking down conservatives as they did with Herman Cain. To them, that IS their profession.

Gone is the era of unbiased journalism. Dead and gone. Reporting is all about advocacy and propaganda now.

It appears these types of stories(rumors) can originate on some obscure left-wing blog, and are then laundered through Politico, the Huffington Post, AP and others to make the accusations appear legitimate.

And the inside of each cover is 100% yellow.

You know, once the MSM declares you dead, you are supposed to stay dead. Guess Newt didn’t get the memo and it is driving them all completely nuts.
