I have no clear idea whether Pastor Robert Jeffress is correct in referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more colloquially known as the Mormons, as a cult. There do seem to be one or two points of similarity. The Mormons have a supreme leader, known as the prophet or the president, whose word is allegedly supreme. They can be ordered to turn upon and shun any members who show any signs of backsliding. They have distinctive little practices, such as the famous underwear, to mark them off from other mortals, and they are said to be highly disciplined and continent when it comes to sex, booze, nicotine, and coffee. Word is that the church can be harder to leave than it was to join. Hefty donations and tithes are apparently appreciated from the membership.
Whether this makes it a cult, or just another of the born-in-America Christian sects, I am not sure. In any case what interests me more is the weird and sinister belief system of the LDS, discussion of which it is currently hoping to inhibit by crying that criticism of Mormonism amounts to bigotry.

Yup, and Mitt will answer all the coming vitriol in his usual, nicey, nicey, stuttering manner. And then he’ll lose. He’s Tom Dewey all over again, a worthless, moderate, republican loser.
God help us!
Or if Huntsman is the nominee.
His religious group doesn’t allow blacks in position of leadership, this is the big “gotcha” waiting to bite him in the butt if the Repubs are dumb enough to try to run him.
Their practice of secrecy and putting “church” above family will cement the deal.
Nothing trumps the race card as we saw in the last election.
Harry Reid is Mormon...so they can trash their Senate Majority Leader too.
Mitt Romney is a Mormon like Ted Kennedy was a Catholic and like you are not a Bigot.
Yep. Been saying this for several years. Romney is terribly vulnerable.
That hasn't been true since the late '70s.
It is as true today as ever.
Reid’s constituency is from an area of high Mormon population and doesn’t think the beliefs strange. He couldn’t get elected nationally, either.
No, that is incorrect.
Romney is a “temple worthy” mormon, which means he is one of the approx 15% allowed into the inner temple. There are a few dozen rules that must be upheld to the letter for this “recommendation”.
He has served as bishop and stake president.
He is about as high as one can be and not declared a “prophet”, in mormonISM.
I think you meant that reply for Post #8.
Sometime in the 1970’s the mormon god told the leaders in SLC that blacks were now ok. The mormon god changes his mind quite frequently.
Yeah, and Romney is responsible for putting Christopher Hitchens down for a dirt nap! < / sarcasm >
heck I would expect whole mini-series on Mormon, polygamy, and Mormon fairly recent racist past.
He’s still one of the top leaders of their party.
Amen ! If we can select a person with “Hussein” as middle name, you know that, mormon and Mitt is a sill issue ! Talk about Romney’s record, that is a different story !
Yes, romney is a rhino but for this election cycle, that should be even enough to get elected. Folks, we don’t have a good candidate. Sanatorum, Rick perry or Michelle Bachmann is going nowhere and people like Marco Rubio or Jindal or other conservatives are not running. Let us try to push Romney to Right ! There is no other choice ! Hope, he will select the most conservative VP !
“Harry Reid is Mormon...so they can trash their Senate Majority Leader too.”
He is a Democrat. It’s not going to work that way. Where have you been?
Did you read the article? Because your response is entirely beside the point.
