This happened in Florida.

Police aviation is notoriously a little crazy. Aggressive guys, given high powered, high flying, multi-ton, hunks of metal to play with daily, and functionally exempt from all rules and regs over what they can do.

OJ Simpson was complaining that at 3:30 to 4:00 AM he was being awakened by hundreds of golf balls pummeling his roof all at once.

Although nobody ever got caught, there were indications that a police chopper was in the vicinty when the balls would drop. Most thought somebody was bringing a bucket or two of golf balls to work each night, and having some fun. Funny thing - cops said it was just unsolvable.

Can’t imagine what a hundred golf balls, dropped from 500 feet would sound like.

In this case, it could be some young goofs with a license, just being dumb.
