Skip to comments.Barney Frank: Obama Would Easily Defeat Gingrich
Posted on 12/17/2011 1:36:46 PM PST by Jim Robinson
Retiring Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., sees President Barack Obama easily winning another term in office if matched up against former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the 2012 election, The Hill reports.
Frank says Obama would have no problem winning reelection but would not say if the president would surpass his 2008 victory totals.
Gingrich capturing the GOP presidential nomination, "would be the best thing to happen to the Democrats since Barry Goldwater," Frank recently said.
Frank told The Hill Gingrich could carry most of the southern states but predicted Obama's electoral count would be "in the 300s" against the Republican from Georgia.
In 2008, Obama racked up 365 electoral votes and opponent, Sen. John McCain had 173. In 1964, President Lyndon Johnson won 486 electoral votes and Goldwater had just 52
The Hill points out earlier this fall, Frank said former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney would be more of a challenge for Obama next November, with Frank seeing Texas Governor Rick Perry as a weaker candidate.
Frank and Gingrich are not exactly close friends. The former House Speaker had previously said Frank should be put behind bars for the role he played in the financial crisis in 2008.

If you thay tho Barney.
I think at that point we'd have to jail probably 70 to 80 percent of the House.
HECK! I'm all for it!
And we all know the left to be COMPLETELY TRUTHFUL and never engage in manipulation of the audience. Yes, this is what Bawney weawwy bewieves and not weverse psychowogy at all.
Fwankwy, Bawney can blow hith opinion out hith ear!
I know that I certainly go to the bank when Bawney speaks. The opposite of what he says is the actual truth, in most cases.
Barney cant even carry his own district now that it is contested! LOL
The word is out - the liberals chant, ‘we want romney’.
Gingrich is going after Frank, the little miss would look prissy in orange. And he would be the one who would know how to do it. And then going to stop the madness of the liberal judges. I think Newt has his laundry list ready and checking it twice.
They know it’s easy sailing w/romney there. If we want justice - IT MUST BE NEWT with a landslide! That will be our first ‘WeThePeople’ message. Newt is odd man out w/the establishment - it must be hell for him as someone wants the prize of taking him down. IRS is checking his tax returns as we speak.
I WESENT ANY IMPWICATIONS - I wesent the impwications that my efforts wesulted in the cowwapse of Fweddie Mac and Fannie Mae.. these institutions wemain vewy solvent and I will wead the investigation into any iweegal impwopwieties!"
Psst, Barney, Barney the Dinosaur could defeat 0. If we had a true strong CONSERVATIVE, 0 would lose all 57 states.
Guess Barney is smoking some of that easy to get “wacky weed” floating around Boston this time of year.
I suspect even Barney Frank can figure out that Newt would do whatever he had to do to beat theOne. Unlike McCain who had no fight in him at all due to his POW status so many years ago. This is just a preemptive strike to scare us off of Newt. Interesting.
I don't think that is the orifice that Bawney uses.
If one is known and judged by his enemies, Newt has plenty of the left ones!
Barney Frank resigning was the fat lady singing for the ‘RATs.
I think Barn is snorting bath salts.
Opinions are like Bwaaaney Fwank - Every Progressive has one.
As most FReepers understand, this is our last chance to get it right. We elect another big-government president, even one who claims to be a rock-ribbed conservative, and the U.S. as we know and love it is going to be finished. We can't afford another Beltway insider that keeps the corrupt system going as it drives our nation off the cliff of bankruptcy and all the negative ramifications that would generate.
Newt talks a good conservative game but I hope he is being real and not simply pandering for conservative votes that he'll pocket, then ignore the people behind those votes if he wins the election. We may have to elect him to find out. I see that as a risk but inevitably, one conservatives may have to take due to the absolute necessity to oust the Kenyan Marxist, Obama.
He accidently let it slip that the “fix is in” by all the Soros campaign funded Sec. of States for all 50 states.
Now how could he talk with a full mouth?.............DOH?
I think it might be close with just Gingrich vs zero. But IF he picks a good VP, Gingrich will blow idiot zero out of the water.
Fairy Tales from Fairy Land!
I wouldn’t use “blow” in a sentence with Barney’s Frank.
Barney Frank is afraid of the truth. Here’s a video of Speaker Gingrich in 2008 explaining some of the mess (caused by Barney and other nincompoops (notice WHO is standing right next to him....as he speaks the truth - someone who recently slammed him):
Newt in 2008 on Consulting Fannie and Freddie
Michelle Bachmann thinks (or thought) that Newt is TERRIFIC:
I think that speaking of what Barney smokes should not be allowed in mixed company.
We know he smokes White Owls.
I´m surprised he didn´t audibly blow it out some other orifice.
We saw it happen in 2008 with John McCain.
It was the financial crisis and bitterness over the Iraq War and dissatisfaction with McCain that put Obama in office. Obama wouldn’t have won in 2008 if he hadn’t won over 60 percent of the Millennial vote and 52 percent of Independents.
Millennials turned against McCain because of Iraq. There are now a lot more Millennial voters than in 2008. Some Millennials are now older and are more likely to vote.
If the Republicans put Newt out there, Obama is going to say “I ended the Iraq War” and “killed Bin Laden,” but Newt wants to start another war with Iran, which Millennials will have to fight and pay for.
Since 2008, Millennials have swung 15 points against Obama because of the terrible economy. Right now, the economy is the issue, but if the 2012 election becomes a campaign over Newt supporting more foreign wars, that could easily change.
