Police say they are questioning a man in connection to the death of a New York City woman set on fire in the elevator of her apartment building.
New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said Sunday that the 47-year-old man went into a police precinct a couple of miles from where the attack happened in Brooklyn and said he had started a fire.
Authorities say the man has made statements implicating himself and came in overnight reeking of gasoline. He hasn't been charged.
The unidentified man was waiting for the woman, who was in her 60s, when the elevator doors opened to her floor of the Crown Heights building. The man sprayed her with an accelerant and set her on fire, New York City police spokesman Paul Browne said.

The perp should be tried and hung !
Hung? He should be burnt at the stake!
One thing overlooked in this horrific crime is an interview done with a neighbor. She said how nice the victim was and how she knew her for 30 years. What’s the big deal? The neighbor spoke only Spanish. Unless they knew each other before, this woman has spent decades in the US and been unwilling to learn English.
I cannot imagine the torture and pain that poor woman went through. If you burn just your finger on a hot stove, it hurts like heck. Her death must have been one of pure agony.
Burnt at the stake? He should be drawn and quartered!
Lots of nuts running loose. It makes me glad I live in a tiny town where nuts are easily spotted and dealt with.
Over the summer there was a loon in the city who killed a woman who lived in the apartment upstairs from him. He took her head home with him and was found wearing her dress. He claims she was emanating “rays” at him.
“He came in reeking of gasoline”?
I would have offered him a cigarette (I’m sure he smokes Newports)
and then stepped back and watch him get engulfed in flames screaming in the agony that he deserves.
Talk about premeditation: the perp apparently had a pump-pressurized canister sprayer (like used for spraying plants) slung over his shoulder. Only in NY could one walk around like that -- reeking of gasoline -- and not attract unwanted attention.
In my 70+ years, I don't recall a more calculated, deliberate, planned and heartlessly-executed act of slaughter...
The only appropriate punishment that comes to mind is that invented by his race-mates in Africa: "necklacing".
The punishment should fit the crime.
Public square, gallows with an elevator car, an executioner with a match.
in police custody and not a sratch on him I will bet
he would be one of Holder’s people
I’m quite certain the liberals, especially in the media, will find that this idiot was “sick”; probably “suffering” from abuse at the hands of the 1%.
See...it’s a matter of the poor not having enough money, so they “act out”.
Get it?
Earlier stories mentioned the woman was mentally ill and the guy was either a current or former boyfriend with an almost 20 year difference in ages. I’m guessing he was a semi-street person who hooked up with her to share in her disability checks. I’m betting she recently gave him the boot.
Just because everyone who lives in the US should learn English doesn't mean they are "evil" and deserve punishment if they don't. There are no laws in this country requiring that resident aliens or anyone else for that matter speak English, FWIW.
Put the perp in a barn. Tie his pecker to a block. Place small knife on block and then set barn on fire.
Clearly Al Sharpton has been
speaking in Crown Heights again....
The photos in the Tele taken from the surveilance cam in the elevator show you be correct in your assertion.
Of course, those photos never made it to any edition of any US paper...gee, I wonder why.
BTW, I don’t call them Holder’s people, I refer to them as junior citizens.
My grandparents were from Switzerland, and even after becoming citizens, spoke very little English, preferring to speak Swiss-German.
Another fine Diversity On The Rampage event brought to you by Obama, Holder, the ACLU, and Leftists everywhere.
My great grandfather spoke fluent english before he arrived here from Austria as a child. It turned out to be a big advantage when he entered Detroit from Canada and had a job before he even found a place to sleep (Which ended up being the back room of the butcher shop where he found the job)
see, new york’s ultra-tough gun control laws prevented this woman from being shot.
My grandparents came over from Ireland at the turn of the century and spoke nothing but Irish for the rest of their lives.
I live pretty close to the Canadian border so I’ve made sure to learn to speak the language just in case.
Older people have alot of trouble learning new language. If you are in 50’s or 60’s its much harder than if you are in 20’s.
Right - so the "solution" to this incident is I'm sure obvious to any social crusading do-gooder libtard. Simply get the Dem overlords to outlaw gasoline and fire. Solved!
If you´re talking about the victim, her name was Doris Gillespie and I doubt that she spoke a word of Spanish.
They lived near each other and obviously the interviewee also had enough English to say hello, etc. to her English speaking neighbor.
But don´t let that stand in the way of your bias.
There were many Irish from the west of Ireland (one of the poorest, most rural areas) who spoke nothing but Irish when they arrived here even by the end of the 19th century. During the 1840s, the Potato Famine, a lot of the Irish immigrants did not speak much English. Fr Felix Varela, a Cuban-born Spanish and English-speaking priest who grew up in St Augustine, FL, worked among the Irish immigrants on the Lower East Side and learned Irish Gaelic to communicate with them.
My great grandmother’s parents came here from Germany as newlyweds. Both spoke some english but my great great grandfather became the primary english speaker due to the fact that he had more dealings with people outside the home.
My great grandmother and her sisters learned english as their primary language but did speak some german.
The woman was named Doris Gillespie and it´s highly unlikely that she spoke Spanish. Her neighbor, who was an older woman and spoke Spanish for the interview, probably spoke some English but possibly hadn´t worked outside the home and wasn´t comfortable being interviewed in English.
I lived in Upper Manhattan and I had older neighbors like her - very nice, great neighbors, could speak English if necessary, but preferred to conduct their lives in Spanish if they could. I had Russian neighbors exactly like that in San Francisco. It´s a normal thing, and most of us would probably do the same if we had to move to a non-English speaking country.
The NEIGHBOR, who spoke only Spanish and knew the victim for 30 years. It is not mentioned if the victim was bilingual, or whatever.
I attend a Slovak parish. Some people there CAN speak English but feel they don’t know it well enough to converse with everyone. Especially the ladies who are raising kids at home. The kids speak for them.
Lets not forget the hispanics with an attitude.
Some years back my shop hired some illegals from central America. I asked one of the American hispanics if he could help me out. He came back and told me “They speak english but not to you”.
You’re supposed to nail his scrotum to the wall and leave him a rusty can lid.
LOL You are more creative then me. If SHTF definitely want you on my team.
“There are no laws in this country requiring that resident aliens or anyone else for that matter speak English, FWIW”
What torques me off, are the requirements or laws to have translators for every damn person who opts not to learn English.
Hey do you know how to read? I distinctly referred to the interviewee who spoke only Spanish. I don’t think the victim was in a position to be interviewed do you?
My grandparents came here when they were 20. Both acquired English skills. I taught in NYC schools for 38 years and saw too many people, parents and kids who saw no need of learning English. Bilingual programs took kids thru HS with no mastery of English. The woman who was interviewed was in her 50s which meant she’s been here since her 20s and has not acquired English and yet she’s been able to function quite normally in spite of this. That says quite a lot about a society that seems to no longer be interested in passing on a cultural sense. At least that’s what those on FR who complain about Muslims and burkhas and Sharia seem disturbed over.
Keel-hauled, racked and a pineapple shoved up his bottom.
Your comment definitely implied that ¨multiculturalism¨ (by which you obviously meant Spanish speakers) had something to do with this. As I said, the woman who was interviewed must have spoken some English in order to have known anything about the woman who was killed, who was not a Spanish speaker) The neighbor, as I said, could probably manage in English but was more comfortable being interviewed in Spanish.
That hardly makes ¨multiculturalism¨ responsible for this hideous crime.
I have taught English as a second language to adults and know that generally first generation immigrants will speak as much English as they need for their jobs or public contact, but at home or in times of stress, they tend to revert to their native language. Most of us would do the same.
This has nothing to do with Muslims. Islam is a religion (which makes its followers crazy), not an ethnic group or a language.
I’m not the creative one. Someone else “developed” that. I’m waiting for one in 20 mm instead of that wimpy .50 BMG.
I like impalement for this sort of crime.
OR maybe exposure (put him in a small cage suspended high enough that its hard to throw stuff to or at him. Don’t feed him. Don’t give him water. Don’t let him out; just leave him there until he dies.)
