'No Merry Christmas,' U.S. House Members Told
Fox News ^ | 12/18/11 | Fox News

Members of the House of Representatives are being told that no holiday greetings, including “Merry Christmas,” can be sent out in official mail.

According to the Washington Examiner, members who submit official mailings for review by the congressional franking commission that reviews all congressional mail to determine if it can be "franked," or paid for with tax dollars, are being told that no holiday greetings, including "Merry Christmas," can be sent.

"I called the commission to ask for clarification and was told no 'Merry Christmas.' Also told cannot say 'Happy New Year' but can say 'have a happy new year' – referencing the time period of a new year, but not the holiday," a Hill staffer who requested anonymity told the paper.

Elected representatives who “bow” to such an unconstitutional restriction on liberty, should face consequences in the next election.

So who’s in charge of this “franking” commission? Is it a House member or an appointed bureaucrat? If the latter, who appointed him/her? If the former, when’s he/she up for re-election?

Well, “frankly,” I’d frank the damned things myself. I am having a very difficult time understanding the idiocy that eminates from our “politically correct” bunch of anal-retentive overseers. I would dearly love to kick that which they are “retaining.”

How come the Post Office has had stamps with Christmas on them?

This is a small but illustrative example of the harm being done by the anonymous bureaucratic establishment in Washington. Multiply this by a hundred, a thousand new regulations and rules created out of nowhere, and the zone of freedom slowly contracts, bit by bit.

OK, found the answers to my questions.

It's a House committee, chaired by Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA, Sacramento area). He's also the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies.

He will be up for re-election in 2012 and, according to Wikipedia's entry on him, "The National Journal's Cook Political Report named Lungren the Republican most vulnerable to redistricting in 2012."

He can be reached via e-mail here.

His DC office phone number is (202) 225-5716.

It remains to be sen if ANY of our elected wuses have the spine, gonads, or courage (choose the word you like best!) to challenge the Won on this!!

The War on Christianity CANNOT be allowed to continue!! WE MUST fight back to restore our respect and dedication to God, Jesus and the christian values upon which America was founded and under which America has benefitted for over 200 years!!

Look around you. The troubles this country faces today stem from the fact that we, the people who own this perverted, corrupt government, have turned our backs on God, Jesus and Christianity. His blessings will not be returned to us until WE return to Him!!

THIS right here...the content of THIS ARTICLE IS why we need someone as POTUS who has the cajones along with a completely deRINOed Congress to start WHACKIN’ ALL the bureaucracies the Leftists have instilled in our government over the many years, and primarily since Wilson’s time.

THE LEFT is so entrenched in our government bureaucracies they are ruling us. The elected representation are temporary (relative), but the bureaucrats are forever ‘til they die. We are almost married to them.

WE MUST HAVE someone with the experience of the political system, and the desire as POTUS to address as we wish an ALL AMERICAN CONGRESS, and pursue stripping the Federal government of ALL of the Leftist instilled anti Constitutional Socialist garbage creating havoc, and expanding government beyond the Founder’s intent.

It’s our government, and theirs only to wring their hands as representative Public Servants of our will if they disagree. Why are we the ones wringing our hands, and pleading to them?

end rant.

Pal? I have traveled in Africa and even the ignorant, illiterate Black people know that the G7 are the most advanced in the world, that they invented all that is great.

When you sit back and run the common thread through all of them you find that it is Christianity that binds them.... that was the main thread that took the European to the Crusades.

Most recently we, collectively, have suffered a invasion of Islam with the most recent assault being 9-11 and then one greater - Obama.

By the time he is done the cost will by far outweigh 9/11. Look at his Arab spring and Libya. The bugger masks his business by giving concessions to Israel to appear upstanding, but the benefit to Islam has been far greater.

Soon he will say its them who attacked Israel not me.... in the meanwhile the Islamic world will knowingly sit and laugh. To them its all a giggle right now.

You see this bs in schools and the workplace and now in Congress. Can anyone tell me what the penalty is if you say “Merry Christmas’’ anyway? I’m beyond fed up with this sh!t. There’s a thread here about a release of new pictures from the epic WW2 battle in The Ardennes Forest in Belgium in Dec.’44/Jan/’45.( the last surviving uncle I have barely survived this battle) And I’m thinking ‘Wow’’, these brave men fighting the Nazis and fascism’’ and now here in America we’re being told, by whom I don’t know, that we ‘’can’t say this and we can’t say that’’. So help me God if I’m ever told this by someone and it isn’t in jest I’ll turn them into a puddle goo, I’m not kidding. Brave men gave their lives to fight an ideology that among other things denied one the right to say ‘’this and that’’ and I’ll be DAMNED if I’m going to be told this in my country in light of the sacrifice those veterans made and all our men and women who served and are serving now. Go ahead and tell me I can’t say something. I dare you. So help God I DARE YOU!!

“”They are still completely free to send any holiday greetings they choose to whomever they wish ... at their OWN expense.””

My feelings also. Why does everyone here think it’s ok for the taxpayers to pay for postage for congress critters to send out Christmas cards? They’re mailing them to constituents - SURE they are! You can trust that as much as anything else they say.. I’ll bet gifts for their donors are paid for with taxpayer dollars also - probably allocated to office expense!

"I’m not bothered at all by this. They are still completely free to send any holiday greetings they choose to whomever they wish ... at their OWN expense."

You're correct about your second statement; however, these are our ("We, the People's) representatives who are supposed to understand that the Preamble to the Constitution they vow to uphold states its purpose--protecting and securing "the Blessings of Liberty," some of which include freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

If my Congressman writes me a letter in December and wishes to include the words, "Merry Christmas," but does not do so because he has been, through lack of study of the Founders' intentions, bullied into believing it is unconstitutional to do so, then how in the world is he going to protect my rights and those of my fellow citizens.

That's why we must care when our public officials don't question the censorship of words and phrases, and by that action, yield up our liberty to the censors and totalitarian political elites who wish to enslave us to their limited vision of what's politically correct.

I see that PolitiFact has jumped on this one already. If their sources are accurate (I'm still wading through them), federal employees are allowed to say "Merry Christmas" and even decorate personal space with religious materials.

Supposedly, House and Senate members are NOT allowed to send "birthday, anniversary, wedding, birth, retirement or condolence messages and holiday greetings" on the taxpayers' dime however they can use personal or party funds for such mailings. If that is truly the case, I don't have a problem with it.
