Kwanzaa Is Wack: There, I Said It
Kwanzaa is wack. The other day I said this on my Facebook page. Actually, what I said was: Is it wrong of me to say that I love AFRICA, but I think Kwanzaa is wack? #ducksfromthebricks .
Now, when I said it, I meant it but gave no thought to how it might affect people. Im kind of bad like that. A ton of people (some Black and some not) got on and said they thought Kwanzaa was wack to. I never thought about it again really. Just a funny little thread.
Then someone got real upset. I felt bad about that, truly. But the reality is that Kwanzaa was created by an FBI informant named Dr. Maulana Karenga. Straight up! Thats an actual fact. Beyond that, stuff like corn, that is used in a lot of the rituals is not even native to Africa. A friend of mine noted its truly corny.
Now hold on. I did participate in a few Kwanzaa events back when 89 was the number. I always tried to do observe it. But once I did the history on its founder and some of the deeper elements of its hollow cultural base, it was hard to continue on. For those who do, I promise Im not mad at you. Not that you would care. But you cant get your kente cloth all in a bunch because Im not feeling it.
Look, I love Africa and what it means to be Black. I love almost everything African (aside from the tribal fighting and the needless murder and rape of women across the continent). But Kwanzaa is not African. I never knew an African (from any part of the continent) who was like Yo Adisa, bro you wanna slide thought to the Kwanzaa fest playa? It has never happened! They dont get down like that.
Kwanzaa is like a bad weave. People might kinda like it, but we all know it aint real. Now, I live on the West coast, in the Bay Area. The only people I see really on some Kwanzaa ish are the hardcore revolutionary types you might find at the Berkeley flea market selling incense and shea butter soap (which they might consider using on themselves).
I guess what Im saying is, I was raised on the works of Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Dr. Ivan VanSertima and Runoko Rashidi. I studied a lot about ancient Kemet, The Moorish Empire, Benin, Timbuktu etc. I love reading about African culture and history any time I can. Thats why I dont need Kwanzaa. I have knowledge of self and kind.
It appears as though the only other people who might celebrate it are East coast college types who still work on a University campus. But Im not even sure thats accurate.
Dr. Maulana Karenga was an informant who hated on Geronimo Pratt and caused a lot of damage to the African American community. How do we know he didnt found Kwanzaa in 1966 as a social experiment on Black people for the FBI? How could such a knowledgeable man just forget that corn is not from his homeland?
Beyond that, is it possible to love Africa and not celebrate Kwanzaa? I know Jews that do not celebrate Chanukah. I know Muslims that dont celebrate every Ramadan or Eid (some for health reasons, others because they came from places so poor, fasting was a daily occasion). I know Christians that do not celebrate Christmas (because they read Jeremiah 10: 1-25 in the Holy Bible). They still consider themselves lovers of their individual paths though. Can I love my Blackness and still think Kwanzaa is rich in wackness? Is there anything else we can do outside of Kwanzaa to stay more authentically connected to the Motherland? What do you think?
In 1971 Ron (sic Maulana) Karenga, Louis Smith, and Luz Maria Tamayo were convicted of felony assault and false imprisonment for assaulting and torturing two women from the United Slaves, Deborah Jones & Gail Davis. A May 14, 1971 article in the Los Angeles Times described the testimony of one of the women: "Deborah Jones, who once was given the Swahili title of an African queen, said she and Gail Davis were whipped with an electrical cord and beaten with a karate baton after being ordered to remove their clothes. She testified that a hot soldering iron was placed in Ms. Davis's mouth and placed against Ms. Davis's face and that one of her own big toes was tightened in a vise. Karenga, head of US, also put detergent and running hoses in their mouths, she said." They also were hit on the heads with toasters.
At Karenga's trial, the question arose as to Karenga's sanity. It is theorized that Karenga may have had a mental breakdown due to the stress of dealing with the violence and murders surrounding his United Slaves (US) organization and the Black Panther Party (BPP). His behavior became bizarre. And, at his trial, a psychiatrist's report stated the following: "This man now represents a picture that can be considered both paranoid and schizophrenic with hallucinations and illusions, inappropriate affect, disorganization, and impaired contact with the environment."
Ron Karenga stands outside courtroom in Los Angeles (Calif.) May 29, 1971. Typewritten caption on the negative's paper wrapper reads: Ron Karenga enters courtroom where he was found guilty on four counts.
LOL!!! Well, Happy Christmahannukkwanzaa, anyway...:)
Actually, what I said was: Is it wrong of me to say that I love AFRICA, but I think Kwanzaa is wack? #ducksfromthebricks .
Africa and kwanzaa have absolutely NO connection whatsoever.
I like the “celbrated by white female elementary school teachers”...so true. I work with a number of blacks (some American, a few West African), and none of them celebrate it. Years ago one of the black Americans put up a picture of their candle-thing, but when nobody seemed interested she lost interest as well.

“Beyond that, is it possible to love Africa and not celebrate Kwanzaa?”
NO!
You are doomed to be known as Whitey wannabe for the rest of your life.
To me Kwaanza is a bit like Farrakhan and Islam.
Its all fake.
Kwaaanza was made up to take Christ out of Christmas.
kwanzaa is garbage.
spit!
“Kwaaanza was made up to take Christ out of Christmas.”
No, it was made up to take blacks out of Christmas.
When I explained he shook his head and said, "Americans are very strange, why do they not just have Christmas like we do?"
Now back at home in Bayonne, she opens the first roll and it says “Happy Kwanzaa”, it's all Kwanzaa paper.
I asked her what did you do, she said "I turned it printed side down and went with it", trying to explain Kwanzaa to her Mom, a very Italian Catholic, was interesting...her brothers and sister in tears laughing.
As ridiculous as Kwanzaa is even on the surface, most people don’t realize how truly depraved it is. Aside from Karenga’s criminality is the fact that the seven supposed principles of Kwanzaa are identical to the seven principles that the Simbionese Liberation Army espoused. Remember them? They were the terrorist/criminal organization that kidnapped Patty Hearst.
Additionally, though the seven Kwanzaa principles are given Swahili names to celebrate the heritage of west Africans there is just one little problem: Swahili isn’t spoken in west Africa! This alleged holiday is a pathetic joke and deserves to be ridiculed at every opportunity,
I got some Kwanzaa stamps last month. I use them on my electric, water, and phone bills. Or when mailing people I don't like.
I asked for some Eid stamps, too, but they weren't out yet. This year's are dried-blood-of-unbelievers maroon.
I got some of the very first Eid stamps in 2001 in a fit of broadmindedness .... three days later the beneficiaries of the stamps' message of toleration destroyed the World Trade Center.
That sounds like an episode of the 1970s era "Sanford and Son." A few years ago, I had to explain that Kwanzaa had nothing to do with Africa and everything to do with uneducated guesses of marxists.
yeah blacks that hate whites.Obama,Farrakkhan,Wright comes to mind.they make up they;re own radical religion.I think it is another excuse to get a day off.
I’ll go out on a limb here and state that Kwanzaa is being kept alive by Whitey. The PC types and the marketing types want to keep it going for whatever they can squeeze out of it.
And Swahili is infamous for being the lingua franca of the East African slave trade.
That “teacher” graphic is a real hoot! Thanks! LOL!
Some whites probably pretend to support Kwanzaa out of fear of being called racist if they don't, and others probably support it for real because of the socialistic flavor of the messaages Kwanzaa propagates.
“Michelle and I extend our warmest thoughts and wishes to all those who are celebrating Kwanzaa this holiday season,” Obama said in a statement
http://nation.foxnews.com/culture/2010/12/27/obama-extends-kwanzaa-greetings
The author is a muslim, so of course he thinks Kwanzas is wack. He probably thinks Christianity is wack. And don’t forget Judaism.
Love that pic of theelemenary school teacher lighting the candles.
It’s *so* true!
He should have included Festivus as well; just as real.
I’m sure he doesn’t want to be on the receiving end of “airing of grievances” or “feats of strength”, though.
Worked with a black woman who was at UCLA when he was terrorizing the campus. She was down with the cause and ran with the panthers until she graduated and got a real job.
She said Kwanzaa was just an attempt to butt into the white holiday season, as this guy saw it.
She thought it might have caught on more except nobody really gave the guy the time of day except his wannabe entourage. They stayed away from him because he was considered a psycho.
On the second day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the third day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Three Dixie Chicks.
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the fourth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Four Lenin busts.
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the fifth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Five fel-on-ies.
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the sixth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Six Castro jumpsuits.
Five fel-on-ies,
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
On the seventh day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Seven Mao pajamas,
Six Castro jumpsuits,
Five fel-on-ies,
Four Lenin busts
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.
Found this last year:
By Kathy Shaidle
‘Twas the night before Kwanzaa
And all through the ‘hood,
Maulana Karenga was up to no good.
He’d tortured a woman and spent time in jail.
He needed a new scam that just wouldn’t fail.
(”So what if I stuck some chick’s toe in a vice?
Nobody said revolution was nice!”)
The Sixties were over. Now what would he do?
Why, he went back to school — so that’s “Dr.” to you!
He once ordered shootouts at UCLA
Now he teaches Black Studies just miles away.
Then to top it all off, the good Doctor’s new plan
Was to get rid of Christmas and pizz off The Man.
Karenga invented a fake holiday.
He called the thing Kwanza. “Hey, what’s that you say?
“You don’t get what’s ‘black’ about Maoist baloney?
You say that my festival’s totally phony?
“Who cares if corn isn’t an African crop?
Who cares if our harvest’s a month or two off?
Who cares if Swahili’s not our mother tongue?
A lie for The Cause never hurt anyone!
“Umoja! Ujima! Kujichagulia, too!
Collectivist crap never sounded so cool!
Those guilty white liberals — easy to fool.
Your kids will now celebrate Kwanzaa in school!”
And we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight:
“Happy Kwanzaa to all, except if you’re white!”
Thus, the fake holiday ... and where better to sell it than to white liberals in academia?
LOL!
That was good!
I agree with the main point of the article, but I can’t stand that stupid slang.

“Kwanzaa: Holiday from the FBI”
by Ann Coulter
Dec 27, 2006
SNIPPET: “More African-Americans spent this season reflecting on the birth of Christ than some phony non-Christian holiday invented a few decades ago by an FBI stooge. Kwanzaa is a holiday for white liberals, not blacks.
It is a fact that Kwanzaa was invented in 1966 by a black radical FBI pawn, Ron Karenga, aka Dr. Maulana Karenga. Karenga was a founder of United Slaves, a violent nationalist rival to the Black Panthers and a dupe of the FBI.”

“The TRUTH about Kwanzaa”
by Tony Snow
SNIPPET: “http://www.jewishworldreview.com — BLACKS IN AMERICA have suffered an endless series of insults and degradations, the latest of which goes by the name of Kwanzaa.
Ron Karenga (aka Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga) invented the seven-day feast (Dec. 26-Jan. 1) in 1966, branding it a black alternative to Christmas. The idea was to celebrate the end of what he considered the Christmas-season exploitation of African Americans.”
SNIPPET: “Our treatment of Kwanzaa provides a revealing sign of how far we have yet to travel on the road to reconciliation. The white establishment has thrown in with it, not just to cash in on the business, but to patronize black activists and shut them up.”
SNIPPET: “But our strength, as Richburg points out, comes from real principles: tolerance, brotherhood, hard work, personal responsibility, equality before the law. If Americans really cared about racial healing, they would focus on those ideas — and not on a made-up rite that mistakes segregationism for spirituality and fiction for history.”
Kwanza ???????????
That`s just Kwazy
He's also an oddball because he claims to love Africa while subscribing to eighteenth century European enlightenment rationalism. How many Africans (or other "indigenous pipples") are European enlightenment-style materialists? Uh-huh. Yet he actually barred any non-materialist atheist from joining his organization, which means most Africans could not join!
Isn't it amazing how the Left (the most western, European ideology in the world) claims to love "indigenous pipples?" How many "indigenous" leaders are uncle toms who wrap European rationalism in native clothing?
“Can I love my Blackness and still think Kwanzaa is rich in wackness?”
Is there any way that loving your “Blackness” (sic) is not rich in wackness?
Stepping away from Kwanzaa is a good start. Now step away from things you would find obnoxious or loony in a white man.
this “holiday” is anti-Christ, it takes away the Christmas message for secular marxism, as many are Christians, the blacks should be outraged and boycott this fraud.
just wanted to point out that Karenga was one of the targets of the COINTELPRO program; not saying that makes Kwanzaa cool (it doesn’t) and not saying it means he’s innocent (it doesn’t), but it does mean you got to approach the normally trusted source of information (like newspapers) with a little more distrust than usual...
...in that excerpt they say that he was exhibiting the signs of a paranoid schizophrenic, but it’s like that corny joke, “he’s not paranoid, they really were out to get him.”
i’m no conspiracy nut; this program has been an acknowledged and confirmed part of the FBI’s history; check out the wikipedia page if you’re interested; just one of the “what the hell were we thinking?” things.
but it definitely makes you wonder about what all went down around this time.
lol, Whitey? um, you do realize white people are allowed on here too, right?
Nyahh! Nyahh! I’m half yaller so there!
Though being an Asian half-breed wouldn’t score me any points on the minorit-o-meter.
