WASHINGTON - The United States, facing a rising China but a tighter budget, expects to station several combat ships in Singapore and may step up deployments to the Philippines and Thailand, a naval officer said.
The United States has been increasingly vocal about defending freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, where tensions over territorial disputes between Beijing and Southeast Asian nations have been on the rise. Related Topics
In an academic article forecasting the shape of the U.S. Navy in 2025, Adm. Jonathan Greenert, chief of naval operations, wrote that "we will station several of our newest littoral combat ships" in Singapore

“we will station several of our newest littoral combat ships”
Jesus,,are we out to intimidate the whole region? Those Littoral ships are packing a single 57mm gun each. Thats 2.25 inches of hot steel. And the USN is recommending the Griffon missile be added too! THAT beast launches a 13 pound warhead 3.5 miles. I hate to see us put that kind of raw raw firepower out there in China’s face.
And that LCS is even able to operate briefly out of sight of land.
This is just crazy power. In the past,, it would have only been entrusted to places like,,,, Ecuador.
An M1 tank has more firepower than this dog of a “warship”.

We just nneto add that 200 fathom fording kit.
Littoral combat ships arent supposed to be out that far. BUT im working on it. Maybe just mount an M1 turret on an LCS and double it’s firepower. And we could build the turret out of aluminum. That way, the weight of a tank turret won’t overstrain the fragile hull of an LCS. Besides, nothing else on the LCS is armored!

The crews will need to be educated on behaviour expectations while in Singapore on shore leave, and then reminded several times over and over.
Unfortunately very, very, true.
Yeah, we don’t want to see US sailors flogged by a whip due to some altercations.
So let them protect themselves.
You apparently don’t understand the world. We need the pacific rim and they need us. We also need the gulf Arab states. That is Singapore and Dubai. It is in our interest to maintain a naval presence in these trade lanes to assure the continuation of trade.
Isolationists are detrimental to the growth and health of American business and trade
We do not have “trade”.
We have buying.
You have no clue about what you speak. We have tremendous exports. They drive the American economy. People here don’t know that and deny it even if they do.
You I think, haven’t actually been shopping in the last decade.
We buy stuff.
That’s about it. All we sell is farm goods. Which does nothing for America except make our food more expensive.
My ship got to go on liberty in 1972 in Singapore. We had just spent over a month on the gunline providing gun fire support for ground troops in Vietnam.
Even in 1972 we were given the liberty talk about how to act in Singapore. Littering in Singapore could get you jail time and don’t even think about drugs. Singapore was my favorite liberty city, even better than Hong Kong.
China is a long way from Singapore...should we get out of Guam also?
Nope. That comes from Canada now.
China's waters are a thousand-or-so miles away from Singapore -- on the other side of Malaya and Viet Nam.
Thanks for dropping by, Congressman Paul!
