PRINCETON, NJ -- After enjoying 14- to 15-percentage-point leads over Mitt Romney in early December, Newt Gingrich is now statistically tied with Romney in national Republican preferences for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination: 26% for Gingrich vs. 24% for Romney. This follows a steady decline in support for Gingrich in the past 10 days.

If Romney starts to climb, it will be a short-lived experience for him. When folks recognize him for what he is, Pat Paulsen’s numbers will begin to look respectful.

If this poll is accurate, a good many FReepers should be able to finally celebrate.

All of that hard work to help Romney bring his numbers up and push Newts down, might being paying off for these so called conservatives.

With just a bit more work, these FReepers might actually be able to help put Romney over the top and bring us another 4 fricking years of Obama.

Party on folks... be proud of the fruits of your labor.

Obama, the libs and the republican establishment have got to be laughing their a$$es off...

GO NEWT GO.....

Go Newt! So what if Gingrich doesn’t win Iowa or New Hampshire. He will win in South Carolina and Florida.

incredible.

I havn’t seen a post that dumb in a long long time. You really believe a few freepers voicing negative opinions on FR about newt will cause the whole country to change its opinion?

I’ll tell ya what caused newt to plummet...newt did. People learn more about his past and decide “NO THANKS”.

I am a conservative but I do not like Newt. He is an “unclean” version of Romney (see Fannie Mae, etc.).

That said, neither is as bad as O and I would vote for either before O.

I’m a little curious bout all the rancour here re Newt vs Mitt, etc.

Is it not possible, in fact reasonable, to think they both suck?

New is good at lobbing bombs, but he seems more interested in personal aggrandization than actual accomplishment.

And Romney? Any way the wind blows, but mostly to the left.

There’s not much for a conservative to choose here.

But is that really surprising?

Why all the venom?

Did people really expect anything different?

You’ll be free to chose from the approved “electable” candidates as usual. Why worry how they’ll govern?

The only important thing is winning the “game”. Right?

Here’s hoping the two “Progressive Republicans” (Romney and Gingrich) destroy one another and a conservative emerges.

The establishment Republicans haven’t been able to shove Mitt down our throats so they’ll smear Gingrich instead.

Don’t worry. Newt is still in a statistically strong position. Even if he finishes in the top three in IA and NH, then wins SC and FL he will be a force to deal with. National polls mean nothing. I’m still with Newt unless Sarah jumps in.

This drumbeat attack on Newt has to be costing Romney and the also ran’s lots of their campaign cash. As they “shoot their wad”, the door opens for late entry before the convention.
I would not be surprised to see both the Republican and Democrat Nominees to be names we are not seeing on the ballots right now.

Boehner would not have rocked the boat if internal polling didn’t look like a revolt is about to take place.

You will note that Romney’s numbers never seem to go up.

Isn't he on top in Iowa, or something?

“Newt Gingrich is now statistically tied with Romney in national Republican preferences for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination: 26% for Gingrich vs. 24% for Romney.”

Try as he may, it seems that Romney can’t break out above the “low twenties”.

Same as in 2008, where he spent roughly $23 million or so, much of it his own money, for about 25% of the total primary votes cast.

This guy’s a winner?

These days I think Pat is only on top of all the dirt that is lower than six feet under.

Still, you may be right. Everyone else has taken a turn in the lead, just about, so that shouldn’t stop him. ;^)

The GOP will nominate Romney. obama will get re-elected as a result. And congress will vote itself a pay raise. And so it goes.

You're not only a gross poster for a woman, you deal in vicious lies about Newt Gingrich, yet you profess such religiosity on your home page. The two do not compute.
