Gingrich Promises a 44-Stop Bus Tour to Fight Negative Ads

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Returning to Iowa where the latest polls show his campaign suddenly slipping, Newt Gingrich lamented what he called a barrage of negative ads aimed at him and promised a 44-stop “jobs and prosperity” tour before the voting on Jan. 3 to fight back.

Mr. Gingrich renewed a vow to stick to the high road and campaign positively, but he still aimed a stinging barb at unnamed Republican rivals for ads that have relentlessly gone after his record on Freddie Mac and other issues and seem to be raising doubts with voters.

“I’m candidly very disappointed that some of my friends who are running put out so much negative junk,” he said here Monday afternoon.

“The only person who profits when Republican ads attack other Republicans is Barack Obama,” he said, “and I think that’s pretty reprehensible behavior on the part of some of the candidates. ”

He promised to return to the state “again and again” to tell voters what he stands for, as well as to “answer any question that comes up based on the false and inaccurate advertising from some of my friends.”

I heard Mittens is out spending him 35 to 1 in Iowa.

And yet he still can't win.

Newt Gingrich is a historian, he loves this country and understands our Constitution, our system of government and the sacrifices made by patriots to create it, and the importance of maintaining it. He knows how government works and how it should work. He is intelligent, educated, and has common sense. Newt carries some baggage but the deeper we get into the campaign and the more we see and hear from the candidates, I Realize that Newt’s baggage is not nearly as heavy as I thought. He has gone to the church with his personal baggage, he has admitted to mistakes. He has been in the public eye for 35 years and has made public controversial decisions, he has cast over 7200 votes, made over 15,000 speeches, written 24 books. He has matured over these years. His original Contract with America led to CONSERVATIVE Republicans taking the US House. As Speaker they had 4 consecutive balanced budgets, welfare reform, strengthened our national defense and intelligence. The CBO had forecast a deficet in ten years of 2.5 trillion when he was elected speaker and 4 years later it was for a surplus of 2.5 for a turnaround of 5 Trillion $. They cut taxes and unemployment dropped to 4.2%. President Clinton talks of his administration having balanced budgets, surplus, and welfare reform, that’s true, but it was thrust upon him by Newt and the Republican Congress. Republicans should be apoligizing to Newt for squandering what he brought to the country instead of attacking him. I believe this can be Newt’s time, America is in trouble and we need an advocate, I believe that advocate is Newt Gingrich.

DISGUST IS THE RIGHT WORD! Ann Coulter went on Redeye two nights ago and told them that the word “zany” means crazy and then said “You know Newt is crazy don’t you?” (Good thing Mark Levin warned us of this plan in advance but it still makes me sick.) Of course she also bashed the tea party saying all they care about is whether Obama is born in Kenya. She would vote for Ron Paul over Newt. Beck implied the tea party is racist if they vote for Newt and Romney or Ron Paul would be better. Bachmann said on Face the Nation that Newt is singling her out as a woman and being condescending to her by answering her attacks. (WHAT A TURNOFF! SOUNDED LIKE MEGYN MCCAIN!) I have had a lot of eye opening moments here and am still taking names.

From Newt’s site on jobs and the economy. Excellent solutions. His organization in Iowa needs to print out flyers and pass them all over at every stop.

Very proud of Gingrich. I am in a state of shock over Fox News and so many political analyists attacking him. It is almost a constant. There was a time I loved Fox and really believed they were an alternative to the liberal bias promoted by the other news channels. Now, Fox is just another leftwing source in my opinion. The difference between Gingrich and Obama is stark..the difference between Romney and Obama ...not so far apart. Most of all..I resent Mitt calling Newt “Zany” and Coulter calling him “crazy”

I agree. Maybe would be best to send him a note suggesting that. I sent him one earlier advising him to focus on the economy and jobs and character like Sarah said and to answer any questions about Fannie/Freddie regarding what his stance was prior to the crash and what his advice was to them as a consultant. That is what people want to know.

I agree with you on Fox. Hard to believe how obvious they are. I did hear O’Reilly tell Romney tonight a lot of people do not believe he is a real conservative. LOL! Romney had that sick grin on his face at the time.

It’s gotten worse here in Iowa.

It’s not just Mitt. Paul and Perry are also running negative anti-Newt ads now.

Ain’t done yet?

Who is he slippin’ it to these days?

Seems like it’s about time to play switcheroo again.

After all, he ran around with Callista for seven years before he left Marianne.

I agree about Fox News. Used to be the only station on my tv all day. I could watch reruns and still be entertained. Now I catch about a half hour of Fox and Friends and that ends it for the day for me. I would rather watch old Match Game shows than listen to Fox. Sad. But, of course, I freep extensively.

Hoping Newt knows that a lot of us don’t care if he “stumbles”. We are strong enough to pick him up.

Great opportunity for a good conservative news channel to pick up the slack. Americans crave the truth and we are no longer getting it from faux.
Fox is so pro Romney he should pay them for all the air time he gets.

Newt happens to be one of those politicians who, when you hear him speak, you say, that man should be president, I’m voting for this guy.

Then, unfortunately, he keeps talking. And you remember why he shouldn't be.

The best way for Noot to get back on track is to disavow the “I’m a Wilsonian” stuff, address the individual mandate issue, and in short, re-establish his conservative bonafides. It’s sad that it has come to this with a guy who has his track record from the 1990s, but there’s serious doubt as to whether he’s still for real, and his supporters need to realize that.

If we’re gonna be stuck with this guy as the anti-Romney, I want to know the base’s needs come FIRST with him.
