President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election campaign will be the first in modern political history to abandon white working-class voters, strategists claim.
For decades, Democrats have been losing more and more blue collar whites. Their alienation helped lead to the massive Republican wave in 2010, when the GOP wooed 30 percent more of them than the Democrats could.
Democratic strategists say President Obama is focusing his attention, instead, on poor black and Hispanic voters and educated white professionals.
'All pretense of trying to win a majority of the white working class has been effectively jettisoned in favor of cementing a center-left coalition made up, on the one hand, of voters who have gotten ahead on the basis of educational attainment... and a second, substantial constituency of lower-income voters who are disproportionately African-American and Hispanic,' longtime political reporter Thomas B. Edsall wrote in an opinion piece in the New York Times.
'The 2012 approach treats white voters without college degrees as an unattainable cohort,' he writes later.

There are millions of college educated white folk who Won’t be voting for the one.
They just can’t get a hold on the fact that all white people aren’t racist hayseeds!

The reason those with a college degree lean left as a group is the overwhelming amount of liberal indoctrination they endure to get that degree.
Not everyone with a degree leans left, I certainly do not!

Imagine that.
This particular cohort is harmed by minimum wage laws that prohibit them for contracting for low pay in exchange for training. They are harmed once they acquire a job by the fact that the people who sign their checks are the declared enemy of liberal tax and regulatory policy.
They are further harmed by the fact that capital formation is stagnant due to the war on banks and Wall Street. They are harmed by the fact that the education system does not provide them needed skills. Affirmative action policies descriminate against them.
Sounds to me like there's a war on the white, blue collar middle class.
“Educated” people voting for Obama only proves that you can’t teach common sense. Educated people have no logical reason to vote for Obama. At least the poor minority voters have a reason to vote for him: The gravy train of social programs. What do so-called educated people have? It makes them feel good about themselves to vote for a black guy while they live in their big homes?
There is no logical reason at all. If you are educated, and make a good living, maybe own a business or professional practice, voting for Democrats is analogous to putting a loaded gun to your head and pulling the trigger. The result of voting Democrat is the same as the gun, it just takes a little longer.
I think that the "white guilt" phenomenon is the major factor here.
It was crossover whites that put him over the top.
Obama ran as a Republican in 2008, espousing a vacuous, pseudo-conservative campaign.
Now he has to run on his record and is DOOMED.
