Following a House vote today that effectively rejected the Senate’s tax cut bill, President Obama reacted strongly, saying that because of House Republicans’ “refusal to cooperate,” millions of Americans could lose their tax cut in 11 days.

The president even admonished one House representative whom he said referred to the issue of the payroll tax cut extension debate as “high-stakes poker.”

While Obama agreed the rep was “right about the stakes,” he said what’s happening in Congress is “not a game” for most

If George Bush had wanted to cut this 2% the democrap mdeia would have been SCREAMING about how evil Bush wanted to cut funding for social security and starve your grandmother.

This ‘2%’ cut is really almost 10% of all the funding for social security.

Instead of paying 15 percent per person the government is only getting 13 percent

And the people will not see 2% they only see 1% change in their paycheck- the ‘empoyer’ portion is where they other 1% comes from

so...

all this fuss over 1%? this lying communist kenyan asshole needs to be removed from office as soon as possible

Obam and the Dims know a series of bandaids, vs. a long-term approach, allows them to play their little reindeer games and do the more damage.

I certainly agree with the overall message of your post. One small correction, though, the 2% reduction was entirely from the employee side (employer percentate didn't change). Another reason this entire cut was such a gimmick; employers had no incentive to expand hiring as their cost of doing business remained unchanged.

A two month extension is absurd.

Indeed it is. The accounting nightmare alone in trying to file a quarterly 941 return with different FICA rates would be immense.

Senate= rejects 12 month extension...
House= rejects 2 month extension...

Media says... “House rejects extension!”

Gee, Obama and the Senate gave America’s peasants enough to last through their vacations. It’s the media’s job to make the peasants grateful.

Exactly what I was thinking. The Chicago thugs think a game of push and shove can change things - they didn’t get 2010. I hope they get 2012 and 2014 when we rid ourselves of the low life thugs and career politicians from our capital and government. We won and we’ll do it again, God willing! Now they can go to the back of the bus.

the Feds would have to print an entirely different form 941 just for that one quarter if this continues. The two different rates would have to be separated.

Washington, Dec 20 -
Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement regarding the House’s vote to refuse the Senate’s short-term payroll tax holiday extension package:

“We are elected to Congress to do the people’s business not only when convenient, but if necessary, even during the holidays. The Senate plan of 60 days of tax policy is not in the best interest of the American people. In fact, according to the National Payroll Reporting Consortium, proper implementation of a two month payroll tax extension is not likely to be possible. When you look at the entire bill, the Senate’s two month package to extend the payroll tax holiday, unemployment insurance, and the ‘doc fix’ for Medicare reimbursements for 2012 is not good governing – its procrastination. Furthermore, the President has previously insisted on a year-long extension. Believe it or not, House Republicans, including myself, actually agree with the President this time. The House has laid multiple options on the table to appropriately extend these provisions in order to provide necessary certainty to American families. We’ve already passed a package extending the payroll tax holiday for a full year. Now, we’ve cleared the deck for a Conference Committee of Senators and Congressmen to reach a long-term compromise. Unfortunately, it’s the Senate who has skipped town for the holidays, leaving the American people twisting in the breeze.

“The Senate should return to Washington so we can work out a compromise deal in a Conference Committee as our Founding Fathers intended. If the Senate is willing to work, common ground can be found to give the American people the tax and job certainty that they need.”
