Mark Steyn Whacks-a-Newt
American Thinker ^ | 12/20/2011 | J. Robert Smith

National Review editors have rolled out their big gun, Mark Steyn, to take whacks at the much-whacked Newt Gingrich. Steyn's article was featured at Monday's National Review Online under the banner: "Big-Government Newt." Steyn spends four pages slicing and dicing the eminently sliceable and diceable former U.S. House speaker. But aside from Steyn's always enjoyable trenchant humor, there's really not a lot of there there in the article. By that is meant nothing groundbreaking on Gingrich. The article is a laundry-list recapitulation of the "Many Foibles of Newt." Newt is contradictory, we learn yet again -- here are the examples, mostly recycled, though Steyn does throw in a couple of novel takes, including Newt's space mirrors offering. At this point, though, what does Steyn's article accomplish that dozens of other articles haven't already accomplished at other journals across the spectrum? Newt the Flake; Newt the Philanderer; New the Big, Goofy Ideas Guy; Newt the Unpredictable; Newt the K Street Maven...Newt, Newt, Newt.

Quite frankly, I would hate to see Steyn take advantage of Gingrich,
as Gingrich has started his downfall in the polls. He should have explained in detail the work he performed for Freddie Mac. His “history lessons” comment was not credible. He first said his company made 300k, when it was actually 1.6 million. He has yet to say exactly the specifics “history lessons” he performed for 1.6 million.

Until he is able to do so, his down ward trend will continue.

“I would prefer it if Steyn actually proposed an alternative.”

Yep.

Who exactly is the individual that Steyn is supporting during this primary process?

One very big difference between Gingrich and Romney. There is no government takeover of healtcare called NewtCare.

How do the liberal-Romney loving “conservatives” at
National Review spin that one.

Truth of the matter is since the death of William F. Buckley
National Review has became nothing in the world but a mouthpiece for the RINOs that control the GOP.

And the last time I checked Gingrich has never been an advocate for abortion on demand, homosexual marriage, and wanted to take away my gun. RINO Romney has advocated all these positions trying to win elections.

They can’t control Newt Gingrich. Therefore he’s to be destroyed.

Steyn would have to close out with a song in a last-ditch effort to win the audience over.

$300K is what HE made over several years. His firm charged them $1.6 million over several years. He never said he was a “historian,” he said he was a consultant and he gave them advice as a historian. That’s just like saying I work for a hospital, but I am also a mechanic and when my boss had problems with his car one day I gave him advice as a mechanic.

So what kind of advice from a historian will get you 1.6 million.
How much did he bill per hour for this “advice”?
And what are the specific’s of his “advice”?

“Steyn would slice and dice Newt”

I highly doubt that.

Steyn's articles can be great, but he struggles when he sits in for Limbaugh. Not so light on his feet.

Newt would win on his feet!

I enjoyed the article. Steyn is always fun to read. I wonder if he doesn’t resent it that Newt has even more to say than Steyn and Steyn has much to say.

The article ran 5 pages printed.

It was clever and contained a lot of truth but disregarded the real accomplishments made back when Newt was instrumental in getting the House.

Newt’s my second choice and I would much prefer him to anybody but Perry.

Steyn’s article was very entertaining, but not at all persuasive. Go Newt!
