O'Reilly asks Clinton whether he respects Gingrich
Chicago Tribune ^ | December 21, 2011 | Tim Molloy

Fox News' Bill O'Reilly finally got his long-sought interview with former President Bill Clinton on Tuesday -- and used the occasion to ask a timely question about Newt Gingrich.

"You worked with Newt Gingrich. Do you respect him?" O'Reilly asked about the Republican presidential contender and former House speaker, whose clash with Clinton led to a government shutdown near the end of 1995 and at the start of 1996.

Clinton paused briefly before responding, "I respect his ability to think and do and I eventually hammered out a really productive relationship with him."

O'Reilly was ready with a trickier follow-up: Did Clinton respect Gingrich as a man? Gingrich admitted in 2007 that he was himself in the midst of an affair as he led the impeachment of Clinton for lying about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

"I don't disrespect anyone who works with me in good faith," he said. "He was way more political than I would have been. He defended what he calls scorched earth politics and I certainly was the 'beneficiary' of it."

He noted that he and Gingrich "worked together for five years," but told O'Reilly there was no way he would vote for Gingrich for president. "No," he said. "I'm gonna vote for Obama."

Watch Napolitano, not O’Reilly.

The only meaningful response in this entire article came from Newt.

BO could not give a good interview if his career depended on it. It obviously does not. I don’t watch him much anymore. Weak and pandering. His recent interview was with Romney was laughable as was his interview with Obama.

Boy, you don’t need the Body Language Maven to read Clinton’s expression after that question was asked...

Well, that was a fairly polite answer. I like polite.

Though Napolitano is better, I’d suggest turning them all off.

I have to say it was the dumbest interview ever! Asking the two men whether or not they respect one another was as pointless as it gets. I was disappointed in myself for tuning in; I should have known better.

Depends on the day.. Sometimes I watch O’Really trying to talk to Juan Williams..
Thats time I will never get back..

Then the convos with Marx Lamont Hill are like watching Benny Hill..
Bill dont pull Marx up to his level, Hill pulls OReilly down to his..

Gingrich and Hillary are friends. Am sure Bill was careful with his words.

Gingrich and Hillary are friends.

Gingrich has been opposing Hillary Clinton consistently since she made her first appearance on the national stage with Hillarycare. I can't even give you credit for a "nice try" with that one.

It’s not an accident that Bubba chose this time to give in to BOR’s request for an interview.

Asking Clinton if he respected Newt made absolutely no sense. Clinton is a democrat who Newt reigned in. His wife is in the Obama admin. and he’s certainly not going to vote for or support in any way Newt. So what was the point? I suppose BOR was just trying to get Clinton to trash Newt

You need to do some research and update your information.

You need to do some research and update your information.

You seem so convinced enough to share your reasoning. If you remembered that Gingrich identified Bill and Hillary as 'friends' during an interview, that doesn't change the fact that he stands opposed to them politically. I hope that wasn't your point, because it is irrelevant.

No. He is opposed to their political point of view. I thought that went without saying. I am sorry if I implied any differently. He and Hillary are friends and have worked on projects together. But politically? Never the twain shall meet.
