BUENOS AIRES–Argentina's senate passed a controversial bill Thursday that gives the government control over newsprint, boosting the power of President Cristina Kirchner's administration in its battle against the opposition media.

The legislation gives the state control over Papel Prensa SA, the country's leading producer of paper used to produce newspapers.

Don't think for a moment this isn't Hussein's dream. Except he really has nothing except eager media fellators in this country. He'd like to destroy a few press outlets, for sure...but 99.5% of all "journalists" in America--from your local radio and tv fakes to the millionaire teleprompter readers in New York City are Hussein cultists.

This little brat Kirchner is headed for a serious beat-down if she continues following in Galtieri's footsteps. He ended getting tossed out of power and into prison after his ill-fated invasion of the Falklands and she seems to want to do that thing again as well.

Methinks this time around, Britain will say,"No more Mister Nice Guy!"

It would be difficult to tell if the Food Stamp President took over the news media as the media whores wouldn’t tell you and you wouldn’t be able to discern it from their bleating of the party line.

I was thi nking the same thing.

I don’t think Britain will be willing to just repel an invasion if Argentina tries again. I can see them inflicting punishment on Argentinian Naval bases to dissuade them from trying again and to take the spirit out of the macho armchair gauchos pushing to send sailors to their death while sitting cozily in those bases.

What are the Brits going to use to “punish” the Argentines? Harsh words?

Last I read the Royal Navy is down to bare bones and their land forces aren’t in much better shape. Please correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe they even have an aircraft carrier any longer. It’d be a long flight from the UK to the Falklands...

Don’t expect any help from owebama either. He hates the Brits and the Argentine gubbmint is left-wing fascists - just like him.

My aunt was born and raised in Argentina.....she came here (legally) when she was 21 and is a US citizen.

She is a conservative and she said Obama really scared the crap out of her because he reminded her of the Argentinian politicians.....

Her eldest decided to become a teacher and now is the president of her local union......yup a liberal.......her sister is a conservative so at least one of their offspring runs in the real world.....

The Mexican Government did this for decades. Officially, there was no censorship. Unofficially, it was understood that the more a newspaper criticized the ruling PRI party, the more it would find that its orders for newsprint had been “misplaced.” Or “misfilled” with rolls of paper that wouldn’t fit its printing presses. Or filled with newsprint that was “damaged” in shipping.

It’s similar to what the leftwing St. Louis Post Dispatch did to its rival the rightwing Globe Democrat... they shared the same printing house and the Post’s union guys would sabotage the presses so the rival paper’s colors were offset, etc.

Brits have nuclear subs. Carriers-for Harriers. Euro fighters land based on Falklands. New air strip there as well. Capable of landing large supply aircraft.

Their military may be stretched thin, but is extremely well-trained and after multiple tours in 'Stan/Iraq are more than capable of inflicting a death-blow to the untested, poorly trained Argentine Army.

Their subs have Tomahawks, could easily trash land based targets in Argentina proper. Doubtful Kirchner's government could survive hits like that...

There is official censorship, they passed a Media Law not too long ago that gave government a lot of power. The Kirchners already turned the schools into indoctrination centers long ago.

No more carriers. No more Harriers.

The Ark Royal has been retired. All of the Royal Navy's Harriers have been sold to the USMC.

Is not The Ocean considered a carrier?
And have the Harriers actually been transferred to USMC?

I think Kirchner is just blustering, like a Prairie Chicken in heat. Her people have no desire to see more pictures of their ships going down as did the Gen. Belgrano. This time around it could be much worse.

Simply because the Brits declared an island as a sanctuary for penguins is no reason to start a war. Yet this modern day "Evita" seems determined to.
