Reid Hopes Payroll Tax Cut Debacle a ‘Learning Experience’ for House Freshman

In session for a whopping 1 minute, 28 seconds, the Senate today passed by unanimous consent the updated, slightly tweaked version of the two-month payroll tax cut extension.

Hailing this as a “new day,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., celebrated and then appointed, as the compromise called for, his designees for the conference committee to negotiate a year-long payroll tax deal. The appointees are: Sens. Max Baucus, D-Mont.; Ben Cardin, D-Md.; Jack Reed, D-R.I.; and Bob Casey, D-Pa.

,,,,,

Reid left with departing messages to Republicans: His message to the Republican leader in the Senate should really be interpreted as for the House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio: ”Most everything we do around here is based on trust,” Reid said. “That’s how we get things done. And I want everyone to understand how much I appreciate Mitch McConnell sticking by the arrangement, the agreement that we made. ”

What about the Canuk pipe line? Did we get that or just the pipe up the rear?

He just cannot keep his mouth shut. He should have accepted the victory with grace and shut up. Nope he has to twist the knife in the new Congressmen. Just nothing but a jerk from Searchlight.

I hate his phony speaking voice. I remember him describing Tom Daschle as being ‘soft spoken’ - and I think of that comment every time I hear Reid’s smarmy cadence.

I suspect someone told him to speak softly and carry a big stick.

Seems to be working for the old imposter.

When Matt Damon said Obama didn't have any balls, the RINOs got jealous and will make it a point to check their balls at the door.

I'll wager you and many others are correct - Reid will renege and insist on more ball-checking when they reconvene.

When you own the MSM you can get away with crap like this.

Just consider the value of this resource. Consider what it would cost to use paid advertising to counter it. The MSM remains a formidable force in American politics. The internet gives us a voice, actually our only real voice, but at this point in time it cannot counter the lies that the MSM can spew out on any political issue.

I hope I don't come off as a fatalist. In fact I think I'm a realist. The problem can be overcome be we are talking decades not years or months.

We didn’t get a pipeline because congress doesn’t have the authority to make Obama choose.

I’ve come to the same conclusion. The GOP cannot be that stupid. They had to know this issue would help obama. They should have signed onto this thing up front and then hammer away that the dems only gave up a 2 month cut while the repubs wanted a year. Then hammer that in 2 months we’re going to fight ‘til death for a one year extension. So the only explanation as to why they chose to do this at Christmas is to hand the election to the dems.

I think the same thing about unemployment benefits. If the republicans can get it cut to 59 weeks less people are on the rolls and thus the unemployment rate goes down. The republicans get blamed for shafting the little guy while obama gets credit for lowering unemployment.

Finally, I think the republican takeover of the house, and the failure to take the senate thanks to the GOP elite, was done so obama would have someone to blame going into the election. Anyone want to take bets that obama gets re-elected?

Myself, I think this was a very poor choice for a battle royal. Stupid, really. I think the GOP should have gone entirely the other way and supported it from the beginning.

You’re concerned about social security? Great, let’s defund it with this bill.

You’re concerned about having a job? Great, let’s destabilize tax planning for the folks who might offer you one.

Cause we’re Republicans and it’s really us that wants to destroy and upset these things, but you voters who will sell your souls for $20 a week, be happy, solve nothing. See you in 2 months.

It was certainly a “learning experience” for voters.

We learned that not one of the reps sent to DC have the b@lls to take a stand.

To all those who say if we don’t vote for the republican nominee we’re handing the election to obama and the democrats: Does controlling the house make any difference? There is not but one party in this country. And that is the party of the elite who give themselves perks and pay raised anytime they want.

My vote for a third party may “split” the vote. But at least I’ll be able to tell myself I didn’t fall for the republican crap again.

You won’t hear complaints now because both houses are co-conspirators, but this is going to be a real pain to pay people and their computer programmers. Millions of man hours down the tubes because 500 Congressmen can’t do their jobs.

"When you own the MSM you can get away with crap like this. "

I have long been wondering if there's anything that can be done about the MSM.

Surely, some of them have drinking problems; some are having extra-marital affairs; some take illegal drugs, etc.

Can't someone set up a website where pictures of these creeps in drunken stupors, illicit trysts, etc., are published?

Can't we do to them what they do to everyone they don't like?

I agree about ‘owning’ the Lamestream media.

However what is surprising is that even the conservative media was piling on the speaker, Ryan and Cantor who did absolutely nothing wrong.

Harry Reid, in essence: "Don't f*** with the Ruling Class. We decide the winners and losers and don't you forget it. What do you think this is? A free country, or something? Grow up."

And so, we have one party dominated by criminals opposed by another party dominated by cowards.

At some point, Americans might do well to be reminded that the guys who stormed the beaches at Normandy didn't do it for this perverse parody of constitutional self-governance.
