Ron Paul accused US Troops of War Crimes in Desert Storm (1991)
Ron Paul Political Report (Transcribed) | October 15 1991 | Ron Paul

Posted on 12/23/2011 6:47:34 PM PST by mnehring

From The Ron Paul Political Report, October 15 1991

American Values?

During the Iraq war, American troops were instructed to use specially equipped tanks to bulldoze the trenches that held Iraqi soldiers- Not a single American was hurt, so meager was the resistance. Thousands of Iraqis, teenagers coerced into the army by the dictator Hussein, were buried alive, while the unprecedented military tactic was hidden from the public through media censorship. Captain Benny Williams, who Led the charge was awarded the Silver Star for his role. Also hidden: the apparent fact that many of the rag-tag teenage soldiers were trying to surrender as they were entombed.

boy this is all coming out at once... kind of like someone was prepared in advance for it

I'm kind of surprised the media did not wait until Paul got the nomination before coming out with this. I knew this stuff about Paul from previous election cycles. I'm surprised this is news to anyone. The way I look at it, anyone who supports Paul pretty much knows what the guy stands for, and is OK with it. We've always had a blame America first (and every other country in the world is wonderful and as peaceful as warm puppies except for wicked, wicked Israel) contingent in the GOP, and it is this aspect of Paul's candidacy that is attracting a lot of support from liberals, moderates and Democrats.

Iowa is raking in those 85 octane ethanol bucks like they were water.I watched and called on farmers in Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Even in the biggest cities like Omaha and KC you will meet folks with a gas pump on their land. Ron Paul is the worse we could do.

Never any proof that surrendering Iraqi soldiers were buried alive.

THe bunkers the Iraqi soldiers were in were at least three stories tall (two below the ground), built with typical German efficiency.

They had to have a backdoor to flee thru and you just don’t sit there when you hear American tanks coming to visit you.

Ron Paul is more than an isolationist, he is mentally ill, a Jim Leach on stereoids. He was strange the first time I met him, many decades ago. He’s still strange, but more dangerous to America today than ever before.

Thanks. Makes complete sense.

I'll add to that how do we know enemy combatants would surrender before we hit them with artillery or air strikes. Simple fact is we don't but that's part of war and part of our ROE. Kill the enemy before he kills us.

I'll admit I like RP but he is way to naive about the world outside of US borders. He needs to shut his trap with the anti-war crap.

I always thought that Bush Sr did a great job with that war and I am still convinced he did. He minimized US soldiers life and cost $$$ to this country, while winning a resounding victory. It was a proud time to be Republican and American.

The Kurds might disagree with that assessment. Poppy Bush sold their asses down the river after encouraging them to rise up against Saddam, and when we had Saddam on the ropes, the drive to Baghdad was halted, and that sonuvbitch lived to fight another day, and a lot of innocent blood was shed due to the failure of Bush I to fully excise the tumor that was Saddam Hussein. Just like GWB, Poppy Bush left the job undone. In GWB's case, he knocked out one of the three legs of that "Axis of Evil" (i.e., Iraq) and left Iran free to do WTF they wanted, and took North Korea off the list of terrorist supporting nations in October 2008.

Both internationally and domestically, the Bushes have proven themselves to be marginally functional dipsh*ts, and there is little 'conservative' about them, they are the latter day personifications of the Rockefeller Wing of the GOP.

No.

This was not a tactic only used on fancy bunkers.

There were also standard trench lines set up in places, using prefabricated soviet style siding (made of a substance like cinder block) to keep the sand from collapsing. We used this tactic there with the A9 Ace armored bulldozers used to breach the berm as well as tanks.

When they refused to surrender, we kept them buttoned down with Mark 19 automatic grenade launchers from beyond their range and tomb-stoned them. It only took a few of these operations where not one of them had a chance to earn 72 virgins and they quit refusing to surrender.

Had they been able to inflict any casualties on us at all, the die hards would have kept fighting.

Wrong sect. It was the Shi'ites who were encouraged to rebel, then abandoned.

Hardly, all of this STUFF has been readily available. It’s time his supporters admit they are supporting an anti-American, anti-Semitic,Racist, U.S. Military hating, insane big mouth.

I don't know if he's anti-American so much as he thinks our foreign policy ought to be the precise opposite of what it is. My impression is that he's got this inverted Alice-in-Wonderland view of the world - he thinks our enemies ought to be our friends, and our friends ought to be our enemies. It is in this respect that his views resemble those of the left.

I doubt they were trying to surrender.

“Burying enemy troops without a shot fired is very efficient.. and clean....”

Not to mention humane. Nothing more humane than making someone slowly suffocate to death.

I have zero doubt they were trying to surrender as they flopped around on fire.

The occaisions Wrong Paul is talking about here are in the midst of shooting, across an entire trench front.

No, an individual troop does not get a battle halted in the midst of fighting, and no again, there is no obligation to offer quarter. Yes they were scared when they died. That is war.
