Democrats believe payroll tax victory bolsters chances of taking House

Democrats believe their chances of recapturing the House have improved significantly after what was widely seen as a GOP meltdown in the payroll tax debate.

Democrats believe the messy fight has helped narrow the advantage Republicans have traditionally held on tax policy.

Democrats have long espoused populist tax policy, with mixed results in recent years. Democratic strategists think that is about to change as high unemployment rates have given new traction to their proposals, which Republicans dismiss as class warfare.

Tad Devine, a Democratic strategist, said he believes Democrats can recapture the House in part because of growing public resentment over wealth disparity. “The issue is really starting to be clarified for middle-class voters. It’s emerging as the biggest issue of the campaign, the fundamental unfairness of society where the wealthy are getting very wealthy and the middle class are falling behind,” Devine said.

He said House Republicans hurt themselves by taking a stand against a short-term extension of the payroll tax cut only to fold and pass it a few days later.

“The Republicans have shot themselves in both feet,” Devine said.

Minutes after the Senate passed a two-month extension of the payroll tax holiday Friday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) signaled Democrats would press their advantage by bringing the millionaires’ surtax back to the table.

Rodell Mollineau, former senior aide to Reid and president of American Bridge 21stCentury, a Democratic super PAC, said Democrats feel emboldened by the tax fight.

“Holding firm on any big issue gives you momentum heading into the next big issue. The stars are aligned that people are ready to hear this message,” Mollineau said.

Senate Democrats stood their ground by refusing to negotiate with House Republicans, daring House Speaker John Boehner to kill a Senate-passed short-term extension of the payroll tax holiday.

Boehner and McConnell should be FIRED!!!

These two clowns have mismanaged things in Congress since the time they took over. And YES, their incompetence has seriously compromised our ability to keep control of the House and take over the Senate.

If Obama succeeds in blaming these stooges for HIS mistakes - something he is engineering right now, he will be re-elected, the Dems will take over Congress and America will cease to exist as it was formerly known.

In private industry, Boehner and McConnell would be writing out a new resume and looking for new jobs.

THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!

I suppose so, if going from 0.001% chance to 0.002% chance is "significant".

Meanwhile, New Jersey's redistricting plan agreed to on Friday looks like the state goes to a split 6-6 D-R congressional delegation. And New Jersey is about as indigo-blue as you can get.

Well, I certainly don’t believe that Boner and McConnel’s utter failure and magnificent cowardice have bolstered their support in any way.

I know, for me personally, come election day I’m going to get out of bed at 4:30 am to stand in line to elect as many R’s as I can, because oh boy we really, really need more of these guy otherwise the democrats might get their way every single time...

The Dims have only one slim prayer of taking the House and it requires two very unlikely chance happenings.

The first is that the republicans nominate a complete idiot to run for president.

The second is that Obama looses in the primary and is replaced by a charismatic figure (not Hilary).

They would not get any benefit from this if the Republicans would push the result of the two month extension would be a lower paycheck for the remaining ten months.

McConnell set conservatives up and Boehner played the idiot. Going into the 2012 election, we need new Congressional leadership and without it, the Republicrat party will be aligned against the Tea Party and other conservatives.

I really don’t see the big deal here.

This is a manufactured “win” for the Democrats by the media.

That said, Mitch McConnell is an idiot. There are enough Republicans in the Senate to block the Democrats from this kind of games playing

All this does is kick the can down the road for 2 months so Democrats can continue play games to melt down our country

I doubt that even that would be enough!

The second is that Obama looses in the primary and is replaced by a charismatic figure (not Hilary).

Unless they figure out how to clone FDR or JFK before the election, or change the Constitution to allow Bill Clinton to run again, that's not going to happen, either.

They run your car into the ditch made you pay for the tow truck driver but they tipped him for you. Yep, that payroll tax decrease is going to make all the difference.

This is what they really want and the reason they only pass things for weeks or months at a time ,so they can keep pounding on it

For anyone who thinks anything that happens and any poll numbers that show eleven months ahead of the election have ANYTHING to do with the election, please contact me. I have a great deal of vacation land on Europa I’m willing to let go, darned cheap...just $2.00 per acre, and I own several million acres.

Have you seen Clinton lately; he is not that charismatic anymore.

He looks like he has AIDS or cancer. Death warmed over.
