Poll of Virginia voters favors Gingrich
Roanoke Times ^ | Dec 22, 2011 | By Michael Sluss

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich leads the pack of Republican presidential hopefuls in a survey of Virginia voters released Wednesday.

But former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney would fare better than Gingrich in a general election contest with President Barack Obama, according to the Quinnipiac University poll.

Gingrich leads Romney by a margin of 30 percent to 25 percent among Republican voters, with none of the other GOP candidates topping 9 percent. In a head-to-head test, Gingrich tops Romney by a margin of 47 percent to 39 percent. Virginia will hold its presidential primary March 6.

More than half of the voters who participated in the poll disapprove of Obama's job performance. But no Republican candidate has a clear advantage over the president in a hypothetical general election race. Romney edges Obama by a margin of 44 percent to 42 percent, but the survey has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.

~~ snip ~~

Gingrich has surged in Virginia just as he has in national surveys.

It was on this thread:
How do you like those ballot restrictions now? [TEA Partyers unite against this RINO fascism!!]

As I recall, you may have been on that thread. Were you?

It’s mentioned late in the posts and if I recall, not sourced except from someone from VA. That is why I used the term, ‘supposedly’.

I was surprised at how many people on that thread claimed they have worked on petition drives just like this one in the past. They were suspicious of why, now for the first time ever, is the GOP using a computer to match names with addresses.

This Virginia primary rule, as I have read, has been on the books for more than ten years

Maybe so but this is the first time they used a computer to verify names and it is very suspicious how Gingrich and Perry's did not qualify and Romney's and Paul's did.

Yeh I was on the thread. Just thought you might have had an authoritative source.

While I do find it suspicious when things suddenly change, I also would also think it strange if addresses weren't checked. You know any old tourist could sign a petition.

I also read on one of the threads that None of the candidates qualified due to the address discrepancies, but they decided to certify Romney and Paul cause they qualified last year.

I mean who knows at this point what has really happened? If I was a verification volunteer, I would sure want some witnesses from each candidate to observe just for my own protection, if nothing else.

I also didn't know that Virginia was still under some sort of civil rights order that the Justice department has jurisdiction over. Sounds like the Dems keep this state in a constant state of turmoil and legal battles.

seriously if they know that all they have to do is get 10000 signatures and it will not be checked, then they just have to put any tom dick and harry signatures on it and they will be in!
If they check the signatures, they should check them all, not just those with under 15000!

Demand they check Romney and Paul’s too, if that is the case!

Gingrich and Perry should demand a list of the ‘rejected signatures’ to see if they are legitimately ‘invalid’ - those who do the counting cannot be trusted!

I could live with a Newt/Ryan ticket. I love Paul Ryan, But, I really believe we need Marco Rubio on the ballot. We need to cut into the DemocRATS margin of the Hispanic vote and Rubio can carry FL for us. There are 3 States, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida: No candidate has won the White House w/o carrying 2 of those 3.
