Perry ad pushes for a part-time Congress - "Let them get a job back home like everyone else has."

Texas Governor Rick Perry is playing up his status as a “Washington outsider” in a new TV ad released today, which will air on broadcast and cable TV in Iowa.

The ad flashes a picture of the four current or former members of Congress running against Perry in the Republican presidential race: former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, Texas Representative Ron Paul, and Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann.

“If Washington’s the problem, why trust a congressman to fix it?” the announcer says. The announcer says Perry’s opponents have spent a combined 63 years in Congress “leaving us with debt, earmarks, and bailouts.”

You seem to be obsessed with the TTC. You also seem to think there was no merit in it.

I visited some family over the weekend who would have probably lost land to the TTC, and Perry's campaign came up in the discussion. Not in a good way - "Thank God Rick Perry couldn't get his hands on our land" was tacked on to the end of a prayer, which I thought was incredibly tacky or not very humorous depending on whether they were being serious or not, but it got me to thinking about it again.

Whether there was merit or not, Perry handled it horribly just as he did the Gardasil crap, and other things, and it scares me to think of him in the White House attempting similar things on a larger scale. He'd be better than Obama, no doubt about that, but imagining him trying to push through his pet projects that benefited his buddies worries me.

Rick Perry will campaign for candidates that agree there should be a part-time Congress and use the bully pulpit.

We thought we elected Conservatives to Congress in 2010. Too bad that most of them turned out not to be RINOs/CINOs. If we can't get true Conservatives elected and then keep them Conservative, there's no hope for them changing their pay or time. Gingrich was able to get a lot done in Congress as JR and others point out, but as soon as he was out of the pictures, we saw how that went. Hell, we had a Republican President with George W Bush and a Republican Congress and we ended up with a larger, more powerful, more intrusive, and more expensive Congress.

The voters have the final say. Congress isn’t a lifetime appointment. They face the voters — us — their bosses.

We don't need Rick Perry for that - we need to boot ALL critters in Congress after so many terms - say two for the Senate, 4-5 for the House. Even that maybe too much.

Too many of those critters get in Congress and they forget about the people and they worry more about getting chummy with the lobbyists and raising money for their next campaign.

Great, have them go in for the SOTU speech and then go home. Just think, with very little time in DC they won’t be passing nonesonse laws and they won’t be prey to special interest groups. The only special interest groups who will have ready access with be the constituants of the state. What a concept, representativbes who will actually represent the interest of their state.

Thank you for this thread.

This article by Schoenberg poses this question: “If Washington’s the problem, - - ?”

Schoenberg did not explore the larger aspect of that question, but we here in Freeperville have a duty to do just that.

President Reagan rescued the US Economy by encouraging private business to “grow the economy.”

The economy grew, but the increase in predatory taxation and micromanagement regulation by the US Federal Government, grew much faster. Hence, it is no longer possible to “grow the economy.”

Thus today, it is not possible to “grow the economy” at a rate greater than 3 % per year, despite the best efforts of the Federal Reserve.

It is all well and good to repeal this taxation, or repeal that regulation, but those necessary actions do not resolve the question “Is Washington the problem?”

The entirety of Washington must be uniformly reduced. Rather than debating winners and losers, everyone who receives Federal money gets the same “Pay Haircut.”

If one compares the production ratios of our GDP to the Capital Destruction caused by the US Federal Government, the ratio is roughly 20 to 40 % Capital Destruction by the US Federal Government.

However, if the % of Capital Destruction were to be reduced to less than 10 % of the America’s GDP, then the 50 % total cut suggested by Perry for Congress would be an excellent blueprint for the rest of the STEELY BEAST known as the US Federal Government.

To those who scoff at this reasonable idea, allow me to remind you of how diificult it was for the Super Committee to cut ANYTHING from something as simple as the increase in the rate of spending for the next 10 years.

Congress has degenerated from a Republic comprised of elected officials to a us or them system which can easily be controlled by three people: Majority “Leader” in the Senate, Speaker of the House and a flavor of day pOTUS. The “Big” Federal Government has been reduced to a small government of just 3 people, without checks and balances.

As we look at the ideas brought forth by the Primary Candidates, let us look for what they propose to actually do to UNIFORMLY reduce the financial size of the US Federal Government, the Government that has proven itself a failure by becoming to big.

BTW, let us all ask the Primary Candidates this question: “Is Washington DC the main problem for the American people, businesses and core values?” Our Grandchildren want to know - - - - .
