Posted on 12/26/2011 1:51:13 PM PST by Recovering_Democrat
According to the latest Gallup tracking poll, more Americans approve of the job that President Obama is doing than disapprove for the first time since this summer.
The latest Gallup survey shows that 47 percent of Americans now say they approve of the way that President Obama is handling his job. This is a 5 percent improvement since the Dec. 16-18 Gallup survey and marks the first time the president's numbers have been in positive territory since July. The number of Americans who say they disapprove of Obama's job performance has fallen to 45 percent, down 5 points from Dec. 16-18.

Maybe it’s only coincidence that this poll comes out exactly at the same time that the chief strategy is to discourage conservatives?
Maybe the democrats and the elites don’t plan and calculate to manipulate voters? Maybe they’re simply walking the straight path of honesty and sincerity, because they truly believe in the intrinsic value of their ideology?
Can you reconcile this theory with the 2010 election results?
Funny how the poll comes out just in time to discourage conservatives from voting against the establishment candidate.
Conservatism won in the 2010 elections. At this point, the wave of conservatism is even bigger.
I’ll never believe the lies of progressivism.
Took a look. You are right.
Here is the sample:
901. Generally speaking, do you usually think of yourself as (a Democrat), (a Republican), an independent or what?
Other (vol.) 5
No opinion 2
You are so right.
Plus it's Christmas, Obamer did claim an ersatz "victory" with that Repub fiasco over the so-called payroll tax.
Like someone else said, this poll is of adults, including many who don't vote, ever.
It ain't rocket science. He's got a spike and of course under direction of the WH there's going to be big hype.
After the first of the year, things get serious again, attention turns to the upcoming election.
Americans kinda want to be nice to this man with the adorable children but even the idiots know he's in over his head. Have you ever had to fire a really nice employee who didn't know head from hole in ground?
That's how Americans who don't bother to vote view Obamer.
Except, he’s really not nice. LOL
Of course he’s not nice!
My mother-in-law, a Massachusetts liberal, loved Obamer, thinks he is a nice soft-spoken half-white black man with adorable children.
MIL is not a dumb woman; she just likes to believe the best.
Now Obamer with his health plan that would have 82 year olds ladies like her facing death panels didn’t sit well with her.
But I’d bet she’d never say a bad word about OBamer as she softly steps into the voting booth to vote AGAINST him.
She sees him as inept but well-intentioned, she sees him as the guy he was holding hands with Moochelle during the Baba Wawa interview.
Nice guy, MIL thinks, but perhaps it’s time for him to go.
Hey, I’m speaking anecdotally but it’s my sense, it’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
Which ones? Christine Odonnell and Sharron Angle or Rand Paul?
Did select local elections turn due to local trends or was there an overwhelming nationwide embrace of de-regulation, tax cutting and individual responsibility?
I’m sorry. I saw some tight local races, and a continuing trend toward anti-corporate, class warfare, tax-the-rich, bailout-for-me-but-not-thee mentality overall.
The “there oughtta be a law” people are winning, even here on FR.
As you might expect, the Liberty University students were well-informed and quite unimpressed with Obama. They asked probing questions and pointed out colossal failures of policy.
Even the Howard University students had little positive to say. To a person, they said the economy was in shambles and the administration needed to accept at least some of the blame, find common ground to compromise and move forward.
The GWU kids were hopeless. They admitted the economy was bad, but blamed the GOP congress. This was the whitest of the three groups. One young girly man in the crowd said Obama was trying with his latest jobs program but the GOP congress wouldn't cooperate. Libtards never think their programs fail. They just think success eluded them because they were not able to do enough of it.
IMO, the sad truth of the matter is that the guy will win in a walk. Consider the numbers:
* 96% of the black vote
* 70% of the Hispanic vote
* 99% of the lib kook vote
* 60% to 70% of the youth vote
* 60% of the female vote (largely because his is a black man)
Kind of tough to overcome that. In fact, the only way to do it would be with a massive voter turnout drive by the RNC. And the RNC just doesn’t like to get down and dirty with the common folks.
In short, I’m afraid we ahve reached End Game.
Anyone that believes that any candidate the Republicans nominate will beat Obama is going to be extremely disappointed.””
Actually, I have a very different outlook—I think NO Candidate will beat obama. The old media, unions, homowood, and the parasite crowd will take this election for him no matter who the opponent is.
Akin to the job outlook and the economy are on the rebound.
The class envy sentiment is not a recent trend, it’s an ongoing, long standing but relatively unchanging trend. The recent trend is a spike in mainstream Americans’ desire to bring back common sense conservatism, in reaction to the nonsense of extreme liberalism.
O’Donnell and Angle were highly competitive as a direct result of this recent trend.
Misleading polls supplemented by voter fraud are bread and butter for the democrat party.
Right now, the democrat strategy is to talk up Obama and put out fake polls making him look good.
Their chief aim is to discourage conservatives.
Try talking to liberals who voted for Obama. There is a landslide of disappointment in Obama.
Always downplayed by both parties and the media is the actual number of voters who are of a Conservative ideology. If an opposition candidate (to Obama) can be successful in turning out these voters, Obama would go down in flames. But to accomplish such a turn out, these voters require a candidate they want to support. The concept of ABO (anybody but Obama) most likely won't work, and I strongly believe the Republican Party establishment feels the same. Seemingly, they would rather see four more years of Obama than see a Conservative elected.
Have to believe at some point the plurality of (Conservative) voters will draw a line in the sand towards a faux two party system, and take a different path. A Romney nomination (or the belief that Romney has the nomination locked up) would likely bring us to that point.
Since Obama has taken no actions to improve his poll numbers, I have to believe the reason behind this surge (if accurate) is more a reflection of what the opposition party is offering as candidates.
Well, let’s see, a person who doesn’t have the best record for keeping his cool under pressure (Newt Gingrich) and a person who is a mixture of cultist and a businessman, which gives reason for individuals of both right and left to dislike him. (Mitt Romney) So frankly, Obama wouldn’t seem to have much fear in either case. He simply knows that one candidate is in a sandwich of disapproval, and the other he can throw whatever rhetorical returns or get him to boil over so that the left, and a good portion of the independents, will still vote for him.
Either way, I’ve made up my mind to start taking a look at Congress, because changing a few seats is important, whether or not the White House is won Obama or an opponent of his.
Exactly, that’s what the focus should be on, as far as POTUS goes, it’s over, so the best we can do is make sure we have gridlock for his second term.
It’s especially true when one considers how a huge portion of the retailers hiring is solely for the season, once the Christmas season is done, plenty of people will leave the workforce once again.
Ignoring polls supplemented by wishful thinking are bread and butter for us.
When was the last headline you saw touting the change in U6 unemployment? Sure, you can find the figure and you can see that unemployment is close to what it was during the great depression, but the government and the MSM know most people won't do this so they print U3 which gets smaller as more and more people lose their unemployment benefits even though there are not more jobs. Pure propaganda.
When was the last time you saw a headline touting the real inflation rate, you know including the things that make up a large part of most peoples budget, like food and gasoline? Again, you can find the figure if you search enough, but the government feels secure that the MSM will print their silly distorted figures and that most people will accept them. Pure propaganda.
Like the MSM, the government is working against us, not for us.
We had 8 years to make the U6 number more prominent in BLS reports when Republicans ran the executive.
I also don't blame the MSM for using that number when it furthers their goal. And our pundits and pols merely grants them the premise by arguing about whether the 9% or 8% level is bad...not whether 16% is bad.
That comment was directed at congressional Republicans who in a number of ways lost ground in this year 2011 they had partial power. It is their poor showing against Obama this year that is feeding these polls, in this case this recent standoff failure by Republicans.
It's a two month bill which means the fight resumes in less than two months, less than a year from the election. Hopefully they will make some changes in strategy and work together to make Obama look bad in 2012 better than they did 2011.
Make no mistake, I think the government is corrupt, including Republicans. I believe the Democrat plant, Crybaby Boehner, is as destructive to our Country as Obama.
This is all a ploy by the left wing Media and the Democrats to get Romney as their candidate!
My concern is that even Freepers unwittingly cling to the lies that come out of DC....so attrition looks like the only solution!
We ought to only be talking about the 15%-16% numbers....yet we talk about the Gallup polls based on the 8% lies.
If I have my info correct Boehner was one of the guys that cut Newt’s throat and helped push Newt out of Congress. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see Newt as POTUSA and payback time. McConnell needs to go too.
Whoa buddy! What’s your problem? Why are you attacking cheap bourbon now? =)
He’s buying a lot of votes with our money. But hopefully not enough.
*Sigh* Once again, we have a bunch of Freepers on here who overreact to a single snapshot poll and are not seeing the forest for the trees. As a result, the doom-and-gloomers and hand-wringers are back out in force wailing and gnashing their teeth about how “unbeatable” Obama supposedly is. So allow me to once again try to put things in proper perspective...
1) The approval rating in this Gallup poll is 47%. That’s only 47 FRICKIN’ PERCENT, PEOPLE! Is it a way higher number than Obama deserves? Of course! But if you’re Obama, is a 47% job approval anything to jump up and down about just ten months going into next November’s election? I DON’T THINK SO! Think about it, would you be boiling over with excitement if your favorite conservative candidate was going into a re-election year polling at 47%? If not, then why are you so quick to think Obama has re-election in the bag??? The truth is, he’s been NOTHING BUT UNPOPULAR for almost the entire first three years of his presidency and this latest Gallup job approval number is still nothing to write home about! It’s only ONE poll consisting of ONE rolling three day sample, for crying out loud!
2) Jimmy Carter had a *56%* job approval in Gallup at this point in his presidency prior to his bid for re-election in 1980. That’s right... The disasterous JIMMY FREAKIN’ CARTER was at 56%!
3) According to the latest Real Clear Politics polling average, a paltry 25% of the American people think the U.S. is moving in the right direction (Rasmussen has the number at only 22%). Meanwhile, 70% think the country is moving in the WRONG direction. That’s HARDLY a vote of confidence for a sitting president!
4) THE ECONOMY STILL STINKS AND IS NOT IMPROVING. Do NOT fall for the media’s B.S. spin that things are getting better. Just ask the 14 million Americans who are still UNEMPLOYED... Or the additional 12 million folks who are UNDEREMPLOYED and involuntarily stuck working part-time jobs... Or how about the 46 MILLION Americans currently living on food stamps... And the still astronomically high gas prices, which are up 80% since Bush left office... Or the continued rise in home foreclosures... Or the $15 TRILLION in national debt, an increase of 43% since Bush left office... I could literally go on and on.
5) The November 2010 elections WERE NOT THAT LONG AGO! Does anyone recall what happened then? Does anyone really see any evidence whatsoever that the American public is chomping at the bit to go back and support Obama and the Dems in 2012? I don’t!!
6) Oh, and today’s Gallup survey was released about an hour ago... Obama’s job approval number has dropped down to 46% and his disapproval number has risen to 48% for a -2 index. There. That insurmountable surge in popularity didn’t last long, did it? And guess what? I can assure you Obama will make voters irate again now that he’s back from vacation and will start campaigning full steam ahead in favor of his Marxist agenda. Oh, and just today the SOB has requested another $1.2 TRILLION debt ceiling increase from Congress. Yeah, I’m sure that’ll really sit well with the American people and convince them to vote for Obama again in 2012. </sarc>
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. OBAMA WILL BE A ONE-TERM PRESIDENT. There are MANY things going in our favor, so can we at least make an effort to start cutting back a little on the needless defeatist thinking? Hey, if fear is what it takes to keep you people motivated to vote Obama out in 2012, then do what you have to do. But please, some of you really need to stop inadvertently trying to depress your fellow more optimistic conservatives here on Free Republic with negative posts that are rooted in nothing more than knee-jerk reactions that fall prey to all the White House and media B.S.
I don't care what the MSM is spewing about BO's "employment" numbers and apparently neither do my neighbors in my deep-blue neighborhood: these stats aren't enough to start peppering the naked bumper stickers on every car with BO '12 stickers. Too many storefronts remain empty. Too many people are slipping into uncertain housing situations. The public has more intelligence than that.
I think your numbers are way off. He’ll possible get 55 hispanic, 50 women. Youth not sure about, but 70 is certainly too high. He is going to lose million of voters this time around. Many who voted for him the first time, like young people, will not vote again.
But When Susie Bop and Amy P Somebody turns on CNN and sees Obama going to church in Hawaai; she just says Obama tried to pass a jobs bill but the pubs that only like rich people stopped him.Pelosi’s 10K a night hotel got a lot of air play but not on CNN and MSNBC.
It is going to be a wonderful day when he and Holder are gone. One year to go.
Here is the info on the surging WP poll. Yes its fake:
Washington Post-ABC News Poll
This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone December 15-18 2011, among a random national sample of 1,005 adults, including landline and cell phone-only respondents. Results for the full sample have a 3.5 point error margin. Sampling, data collection and tabulation by Abt-SRBI of New York.
Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as president?
Approve: 49% Disapprove: 47%
Those numbers are now being used as evidence of Barack Obamas once-again found approval among American voters just as 2012 and its accompanying election cycle begins in earnest. It is, according to numerous and subsequent media reports, the first time President Obama has had a higher approval vs disapproval rating since early last summer and perhaps a trend that will propel him to re-election victory in November of 2012.

But how to explain what is indeed a rather significant 5-point approval increase over polling data from just last month? Is it a reflection of Obamas supposed victory over Republicans in the payroll tax reduction debate? Although many in the media are this very minute scrambling to posture just such an explanation it is not likely. Why? Because this most recent Washington Post/ABC news poll, though just recently published, was actually taken BEFORE the final resolution to the payroll tax debate took place December 15th December 18th. The Obama victory over the Republicans did not happen for a number of days after the polling was actually conducted.
There is more to explain Barack Obamas Surge in the polls though and just as Insider warned, the cause is, while sadly predictable, no less insidious.
Here is the data regarding the political affiliation of those individuals who participated in the most recent Washington Post/ABC News poll:
A seven-point advantage favoring Democrats thus favoring support of President Barack Obama!
Now let us look back to the previous poll by Washington Post/ABC News published in November:
Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as president?
Approve: 44% Disapprove: 53%
And here then is the political affiliation of those individuals who participated in the Washington Post/ABC News poll from November:
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT IN THE MOST RECENT POLL NOW BEING SITED AS PROOF OF AN OBAMA APPROVAL SURGE, THERE WAS A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF DEMOCRATS AND A LOWER PERCENTAGE OF REPUBLICANS INVOLVED IN THAT POLL THAN THE ONE PUBLISHED LAST MONTH A CLEAR CASE OF MANIPULATING THE OUTCOME. IN THIS CASE A 3-POINT SHIFT FROM THE PREVIOUS POLL THAT NOW OVERWHELMINGLY FAVORS DEMOCRAT PARTY AFFILIATION, REPRESENTING MORE THAN HALF OF THE 5-POINT OBAMA SURGE NOW BEING REPORTED BY VARIOUS MEDIA OUTLETS. AND SO GOES THE INCESTUOUS RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA AND THE OBAMA WHITE HOUSE. AND JUST AS INSIDER WARNED THERE WILL BE MUCH MORE OF THIS TO COME IN 2012.
KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOLKS
Obama is beatable, but not with this bunch of spares.
I agree COMPLETELY. Our guys are not perfect but they are better than the Usurper in the White House.
Anything not Old No 7 - Jack Daniels, is not good enough ;)
I hope you’re right. May well be about youth vote — though I think our real hope there is that they just stay home. As to Hispanics, I think we’re looking at 60% to 70% without a doubt. Remember, while they are notoriously hard working, they come from cultures where government handouts are de riguer. And as to women, I’m afraid you’re being far too kind.
Many Americans, those who watch Diane Sawyer or Brian Williamns, truly believe in Obama and want him again. They also don’t want to admit that they are wrong.
That is what I keep telling FR people - but they just won't listen. They just want to bitch and moan.
The Christmas season is an aberration EVERY year - from Thanksgiving [or even Halloween] through January 31st of the following year.
Temporary hires are made, which reduces the size of the unemployment rolls. Then, there are the people who have exhausted their UE benefits AND people who stop looking for work during the holidays. These people are NOT counted on the current UE rolls.
AFTER the holidays, the people who stopped looking for work generally start looking again. Also, the temporary hires are let go since the season is over. These people ADD to the UE rolls in January of the new year.
One last thing - companies that DID NOT make their financial projections during the year tend to JETTISON workers just after the holidays so that they can close the financial gap for their end-of-year annual reports. These laid-off people ALSO hit the UE rolls in January of the new year.
TAKE FOR EXAMPLE SEARS/KMART JUST TODAY ...
S/K announced that it is closing 100-120 stores. If ONLY 50 people worked at each store, you are talking about 5000-6000 people out of work and soon to be hitting the UE rolls. I worked for Sears once upon a time - and the average store has AT LEAST 200 employees. So, the number is LIKELY to be higher than that.
As I have said MANY times before - my sister works on Wall Street and she says that the financial industry TOTALLY discounts ALL financial data generated by the government during the Christmas season. They start taking the data SERIOUSLY AFTER January 31st of the following year.
So, folks - DON'T get yer panties in a wad at this time. CHILL until the end of January !!!
As Sidney Friedman said on M*A*S*H:
"Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice. ..."
I don't know who he be, but if we wait long enough, there'll be four of 'em comin' 'round the bend: the phony "emancipator" ruler, the more true-to-life war-loving ruler, the world-wide economic/food-shortage ruler, and lastly the Death and Hell ruler.
What we're seeing now is just a "glimpse."
“Ive said it before and Ill say it again. OBAMA WILL BE A ONE-TERM PRESIDENT.”
And I’ve said many times that I think that barky will be re-elected. It has less to do about him and more to do with the ineptness of the gop, as well as the barely contained civil war that is currently going on within the gop.
Enough of the gop will ultimately coalesce around mittens to hand him the nomination, but it will ultimately be for naught when the predictable purge and/or disenfranchisement of the paleoconservative minority comes. The 3rd party challenge that results will cost the gop the election.
And barky won’t have to lift a finger to do it. He can just stand back and watch the gop implode.
If obama gets re-elected, I’ll know for sure this is the end times and be watching the eastern sky.
This is “push polling” just as Rush predicted. The establishment is panicking right now because the economy has not turned around and Obama is not popular.
The established media will lie to us just like the Pravda to try to convince the people have not been paying attention that Obama is not a bad guy after all.
Don’t believe it and make sure you tell your friends not to believe it!
If this was a white President, no way in hell would they be re-elected, given the economy, etc. But wait and see. obama, with the media on his side, will be re-elected in a landslide. I just hope Republicans can hang onto the House.
Calling attention to the inaccuracy of polls and the underlying deceptive tactics of progressivism is the opposite of ignoring them.
