Rick Perry's Taxpayer-Funded Security Costs Rise
Texas Tribune ^ | 12.25.11 | Jay Root

Gov. Rick Perry was near the height of his popularity when he barnstormed California in September to raise money for his presidential bid and to participate in his first nationally televised debate.

His state-provided security guards were flying pretty high, too, spending more than $32,000 in taxpayer money for travel and lodging in San Francisco, $4,400 to dine near the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum in Simi Valley, and another $6,400 for plane tickets to San Diego, records show.

” $4,400 to dine near the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum in Simi Valley..”

Does Perry have 200 people in his security detail or are those guys living large on the taxpayer dime?

Consider the source! Looks like the left has this publication. From their “About Us” section: (NYT connection)

“Through a content partnership with The New York Times, we provide news, political reporting, opinion, arts, and entertainment coverage in expanded front sections of the Friday and Sunday print editions of The Times distributed in Texas. We partner with KUT Radio in Austin to provide radio journalism and collaborate with numerous Texas news organizations including 27 daily newspapers and 11 television stations.”

The bills for his omnipresent security detail continue, costing taxpayers as much as $400,000 a month

Hey, lobster, caviar and top shelf hotels with room service, are not cheap!

These state employees have to eat!

Do you have any evidence that the Tribune manufactured these numbers and that the Texas taxpayers are not paying out all this cash for Perry security?

Did Cain’s security detail spend $4,400.00 of tax payer money on a meal?

Do you believe everything you read? Have you researched and verified the numbers? I’m just saying this publication is in partnership with the NY Slimes. Not a paper most FReepers turn to for information.

Their source is the Texas Comptroller.

Do you have reason to believe that Susan Combs has committed fraud by falsifying government records?

His Security Detail is a function/duty of the Executive Branch of the State of Texas under Texas Law. It wouldn’t matter if it was Rick Perry or Fred Flintstone.

Whoever is the Governor of Texas has a Security Detail. It really has nothing to do with Perry, but rather it is provided for whoever is Governor by the State of Texas..not that it would matter to the NY Times or Freepers who are parroting the Rag of Record.

To put things a bit in perspective, somebody did manage to torch the governor’s mansion, which gutted the inside.

Can you please cite the Texas Law that dictates that the governor’s security staff must drop $4,400 of tax payer money for dinner?

I saw no where in the article where it stated that was the cost of one/a meal. In fact, the way it was stated "to dine near" makes me think it is deceptive..If it were one meal, why didn't the article state, "one meal at the posh eatery, Fagomundo's Haute Cuisine" or whatever.

Repulsive and people didn’t believe me when I said that Obama and Perry are 100 percent the same. He proves my point everyday. This dude would be a disaster as our nominee. A complete and utter idiot. Almost worse then Newt. The Obama’s are showing how wonderful their marriage is lately. i wonder if it is to prepare for if Newt gets the nomination and they can compare. We are shooting ourselves in the foot if either one of these bozos gets the nomination. Of course, I will be vilified for being truthful but whatever that is status quo around here. Clearly they don’t want a conservative to run like Bachmann and Santorum the ONLY two I will vote for the in general.

Do you hear Perry coming out and dismissing these numbers? Nope and he is all over the TV daily fixing his gaffs so why would he be so silent on this?????
