WASHINGTON—The Justice Department blocked South Carolina's new voter identification law, citing concerns about the law's effect on African-American voters and setting up a new conflict between the Obama administration and Republican-led state governments.

The South Carolina proposal would require voters to provide state-issued or military photo identification in order to cast a ballot. Current law allows voters to use a printed voter registration card as identification.

Under the federal Voting Rights Act, South Carolina must prove that any changes in voting law don't have the effect of discriminating against minorities. The state can either change the law or, more likely, ...

But what the hell, I'm white. If I want something -- a Rolls, a private jet, a PhD, whatever I want like making professional sports white-only, whatever -- I just dial that secret 800 number that all us whites get at birth.

It's a proven fact that whites have all the advantages.

Nikki needs to be the first non-black politician to stand up and say she won’t allow the Feds to interfere. She should say clearly that she expects black people to have the ability to follow the law like anybody else, she knows they can, and that this administration is playing a racist game, to cynically use black people as pawns in their power games.

South Carolina must now prove a negative? That it does not adversely affect minorities.

I am so damn sick and tired of this black b/s.

And that's exactly what it is - black entitlement mentality. Too bad for the black conservative members of this forum though when some people (not you) tend to lump them all together. I wish that everybody would realize that not all black people agree with Holder/Obama and their ilk.

“It doesn’t make a lot of sense. Lots of other states now have voter ID laws in place.”

Yes, but racism only exists in the Old South, don’t you know?

They’ll come after TN before it’s over with. Heck, our RINO Gov. has issued a couple of statements in the past week or so saying he has misgivings about our new law. What a JERK!!
They bent over backwards to make it easy - - and FREE for many - - to get a photo ID in plenty of time for the elections. Anyone who doesn’t have one in time can blame no one but themselves!

I hope Gov. Haley fights this crap with everything she’s got. The Obama Admin. has been over-stepping bounds and getting away with it for too long.

Look we whites can't continue this ruse.

We get everything we want and we fix it so no one else can do that. I exposed our little secret above, the special 800 number that only we have; before telephones it a special telegraph, drum, and smoke signals.

Every year I call the educational testing organizations and instruct them to double white scores and reduce black scores by thirty percent.

In 2000 I told Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris that I don't want any black votes to count -- and get rid of that make up! You'll look a lot better without it!

There I feel much better now.

IIRC, a federal law was passed during the late Bush administration regarding the States getting their voter rolls cleaned up. Holder specifically told the States to ignore it.

This is so ridiculous! When I lived in VA five years ago, in a county that usually voted more democrat than republican, we had to show photo ID to cast a vote. No big deal. Why this is not the law of the land across the country is just crazy.

You have to show photo ID for just about everything else in this country...even to use a credit card at the mall, so why not the same to cast a legal vote; to verify that you are who you state yourself to be. This should not even be an issue. You can be darn sure that if "minorites" or others subject to "disenfranchisement" needed to show a photo ID for "guvmint" hand outs, they'd sure as shootin' have one or walk over broken glass to get one!

Instead of attacking laws requiring everyone to show photo ID to vote, the administration should be looking into why there are laws preventing minorities from getting picture IDs. Clearly, that is the real problem here. Without ID, it is almost impossible to live and function in our society.

What? Minorities have a legal right to get picture ID?

Who knew?

The problem here is not the Conservative people of South Carolina but the marxist in Washington DC.

absolutely...agreed....for the most part.

except SC’s’conservative’ governor just backed Mittens Romney for POTUS...whats up with that??

Probably thinks she has a shot at VEEP. Romney has probably tossed the “you could be my veep” to quite a few governors, senators and whoevers expecting these endorsements. Politicans are not that much different than the rest of the people, many would eagerly sell their souls.
