I regularly visit the Project 2000 Ranghe out in East San Diego County and there always seem to be deer roaming about just yards from the berms above the various ranges.
We have them wander right onto the range in southern Wisconsin. We have to call a Cease Fire and go chase them off.
The law of unintended consequences. The anti pipeline/ drilling idiots should smoke this in their pipe.
Don’t those idiot deers even know about ricochet?
I saw a story about the Club Fed in PA. The perimeter isn’t patrolled during deer season...
Try chasing a herd of cattle including 1000+ lb steers out of the line of fire some time... I’ve done that and the thought hits you, “Good lord, what if even one of those guys were to figure out he’s got me by 800 lbs or more?”
I was shooting into a berm like that once with a .357 Magnum. Some idiot on a bicycle rode across the berm.
Nothing new here that an avid shooter doesn’t know already.
The Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clay range I frequent in Greenbelt, Maryland always has deer grazing far beyond the reach of shot guns.
The DPS/FBI Pistol and Long Gun Ranges, Hogan’s Alley and CQB House complex at Beltsville, Maryland always has deer roaming around within eye sight. Though never dangerously close for them.

We’ve had the same problem with free roaming deer on the West, Air Force Guard, Reserve and Navy/Marine Reserve side of Andrews AFB for decades.
We just try to keep them off of the Active runways and taxiways. Haven’t had a Deer Strike to my knowledge. Though I understand that Little Rock AFB and its many, many C-130s is notorious for them.
My two deer stories:
Wy brother and I were in Newport news, VA, and decided to play golf at the local muni course. It was called Deer Run or something like that.
The course was teeming with deer, and when you got to the green, they would come out of the woods and form a gallery to watch you putt.
After you got done, they would return to the woods.
Story #2:
When I was at Fort Sill in the 60s (Field Artillery School), the deer would roam the ranges, walking in straight lines forming a rectangle outlining the no-fire zones.
They stayed off the live fire part of the ranges and just walked in the no-fire area.
How long did it take them to learn how to do that?
My squad was setup in an ambush when this deer comes walking down the line right in front of us. It got to the last guy in line, a city slicker who had never seen a deer in real life. He freaked out and lit up this deer with a whole magazine of blanks. The deer came running back down the line and all you could hear was a bunch of giggling.

Maybe they had signs up?
Case where deer had caused accidents on a County Road and while the authorities ‘argued’ there was a “Deer Crossing” sign that the motorists should have been observant.
Some woman in the back got the floor and said “Those signs are in the middle of a curve, Why don’t you just move them down in the straightaway so the drivers have more time to see them?”
It didn’t say whether or not she was blond.
The wife and I work for a contractor and we visit a few of the military ammunition plants. The ones with no hunting or very limited hunting are great. The deer are so use to people and vehicles, they just sleep a few yards off the road during the day. They don’t run and hardly even look at us as we drive by. Turkeys there are just a bad. They own the roads.
Once stopped the truck and right next to the road, lying in the tall grass were 5 young bucks, no more than 5 yards from us. They finally got up and left after a minute. Just nice to be able to get that close to them.
