General Motors Co. (GM) has hired management consultant Hackett Group (HCKT) to help identify areas to cut an undetermined number of white-collar jobs, said two people familiar with the matter.
Hackett Group, based in Miami, will help identify opportunities for cuts and efficiency improvements at headquarters and elsewhere in North America, said the people, who asked not to be identified revealing private plans. GM has been trimming engineers and other white-collar staff, said Jay Cooney, a spokesman, who declined to comment on whether the Detroit-based automaker had hired Hackett Group.

How is it that Government Motors CEO, Barrack Hussein Milhouse Soros Obama Carter Soetoro, allowed a GM commercial to run with the image of Santa Claus as a car salesman?
Pretty soon there will be no one left but the UAW workers sitting on their thumbs
But union jobs will be spared, of course.
If I'm not mistaken, their new contract requires the company to hire even more union employees.
Been doing that for years, they have.
While the U.A.W. achieved only modest economic gains for its 48,000 members at G.M. longtime G.M. workers will receive no wage increases under the deal the emphasis on adding jobs was the top concern for the unions leadership.
What we were looking for was jobs, jobs, jobs, and thats what we came away with, Joe Ashton, a U.A.W. vice president, said at a media briefing here on Tuesday.
The union estimates that G.M. will create or preserve 6,400 jobs over the next four years, mostly by hiring new, entry-level employees but also by retaining work in the United States that was going to move to Mexico.
While I suspect that the Management is over-stuffed, like most large corporations, they will NOT look at Union Contracts, nor will they eliminate non-productive Union positions, either.
The money-funnel for the DNC (Unions) is NEVER addressed as an over-staffed, under-producing, benefits-laden albatross around companies' necks.
Appropriately named entity.
These are not the middle class cuts you are looking for ...
Obama’s Union Overlords approved this?
Maybe since they now OWN the company since Obama GAVE it to them, they want it to be profitable... imagine that.
Step #1...Who promoted and designed the $41K exploding golfcart?
Step #2...Fire them.
In addition to the moral issue of buying a car from a company that was basically nationalized, consumers now must consider the quality aspect of purchasing a car from the government. Jaguar was one of the best cars around up until the 70’s when the Brit government essentially nationalized it and started running the company based on political pressures rather than market pressures.
Firing engineers to save do-nothing union jobs is about as political a decision as you can make. GM may currently have some good products but anyone who has owned a 75’ to 85’ Jaguar will tell you to avoid Government Motors like the plague starting now.
Is this correct?
More workers translates to more union dues money coming in. Since these new workers are “entry level”, this also usually means reduced wages and benefits. A win-win for the union which has part ownership in the company.
Could the UAW be exploiting the working class for their own gain?
I am sure the best way to shore up GM and bring back the kinds of profits it needs to compete in today’s transportation business is to pare back their car lines. So with he proper government assistance the following decisions will be made. Drop GMC and Chevy Trucks. They use entirely too much fossil fuel Drop Cadillac and Buick. These are only afforable by the upper classes and most OWS can not afford them.
Keep Chevrolet and expand the Volt line by 4 or 5 times. That should do it.
