This is great news.

He’s done all the damage he can do?

So now, he’ll retire to a life of luxury on the public, and his ill gotten insider trading gains?

Sen. Nelson, I wish you get what you have coming to you!

McConnell actually thinks the Dems would vote for him to replace Reid? Dream on. No matter how much he’s done for them, they aren’t going to make him their leader.

It may not be such great news as it allows an unknown democrat to lie about how conservative they are to get elected.

Nelson couldn't do that any more........

This is great news from the bastard that gave us ObamaCare. He read the tea leaves & knew those Cornhuskers won’t forget his debacle - his party first over the nation.

This should be an easy GOP pickup. Nelson flushed his chances down the toilet when he supported ObamaCare in return for the Cornhusker Kickback.

He has tried to backpedal for the last two years and has just reached the conclusion that there is no sale.

A few more details from Nebraska Freepers would be appreciated. Traditionally, they have always sent one Democrat (generally comparatively conservative) and one GOP to the U.S. Senate.

The main difference is Reid does what’s best for Reid. McConnell just does what Obama tells him.

>> Mitch McConnell (RINO-KY) <<

I remember when Trent Lott was Senate GOP leader, freepers were jeering him and talking about what a heroic conservative fighter Mitch McConnell is during the McCain-Feingold battles and how he would be ideal to lead the Senate Republicans. Then a few years later, freepers get their wish. Now he's a "RINO"

He's sick of all that jive...Now it's time to parlay that 30 year old Rolodex into cold hard cash. Lobbying and in other ways. Newt can clue him in. Plus by announcing so late he must have a few million in his stash (campaign fund) to dole out to up_and_coming hacks

Lincoln put a lot of generals in command before he found someone who could fight and win. McConnell isn’t a fighter and isn’t a winner. Time to find a new general.

Current Senate Democrats who are retiring:

Akaka (HI)
Conrad (ND)
Bingaman (NM)
Webb (VA)
Kohl (WI)
Nelson (NE)
Lieberman (I)(CT)

The Republicans are losing two RINOs, John Kyl (AZ) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (TX)

Importantly, there is a rumor that Bernie Sanders is planning to retire!

It certainly makes the race more interesting. The word on the street is that none of the current Republicans are generating any buzz. With the announcement of Nelson not seeking re-election, it would not be surprising if our current governor jumps into the fray.

The buzz from the Democrat’s side is that Bob Kerry may toss his hat into the ring. That certainly won’t require him to pretend to be conservative; however, this red state really likes him and has fond memories of him.
