'Transformation': Perry now opposes all abortion, even in rape or incest cases

OSCEOLA, Iowa -- In what the Texas governor calls a "transformation," Rick Perry on Tuesday said that he has reversed his acceptance of abortion in some severe circumstances, saying that he now opposes the procedure even in cases of rape and incest.

Perry said the change came after seeing the "Gift of Life" film produced by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. He told an audience of Iowans at Clark Electric Co-op in Osceola that he was moved by the story of a woman who introduced the film during a screening earlier this month in Des Moines.

This clown takes on more positions than a weathervane in a Texas twister.

And...

“If you act now, YOU too, can have him take on your position*, for the LOW, LOW PRICE OF $5,000.”

Anything less than that is insulting.

“She said, ‘I am the product of rape.’ And she said ‘my life has worth,’”
Perry said of his exchange with the woman. “It was a powerful moment.”

Keyword spamming used to be considered a grave offense on Freepdom. It could get you zotted. What happened? Did Jim Rob get lazy?

Anyhow, a lot of these “opposes” are “personally opposes” with miles of weasel room in between. I’d wait and see what Perry means. I like the frankness of the Salvation Army position, which flat out advises that the situation of an unwanted pregnancy be accepted. Not sure Perry is at that point yet.

The reason so may Texans have backed off supporting Fr in because it became ok to trash Perry in such a way as was unacceptable to other candidates.

I figure I will certainly be gone soon.

You can back Palin, or Bachmann or Cain or Gingrich but you sold your soul.

I'll be gone soon too. Too bad for the FR Mods.

I could buy a one-time transformation. Happened to me. I was pro-abortion until the doc handed me my newborn son.

Changed my mind irrevocably, that very instant.

But you're right, this "transformation" is politically convenient.

The issue is moot. Perry has shown his commitment to protecting the unborn. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2808384/posts

Tell you what, you go find a candidate with a better record of protecting the unborn. Perry has already put his pen to legislation protecting the unborn and you're deliberately attempting to be misleading. You're trying to make readers believe Perry is pro-abortion and that is a lie.

It is also interesting to google Perry, abortion record and you get a page full of pro-abortion types caterwauling about Perry being anti-choice.

Anyone hated by these folks is a friend of mine. Go, Perry.

But you're right, this "transformation" is politically convenient.

Pro-Life, Marriage Groups Release 2012 GOP Scorecard “……Only three candidates – Perry, Santorum, and Bachmann – support every issue on the scorecard and have signed both pledges. The other candidates have either not signed one of the pledges or have not indicated support of one of the social conservative issues.”……

Rick Perry Gets A Grade on Abortion From Texas Pro-Life Groups “The big question in the Republican presidential race is whether or not Texas Gov. Rick Perry will throw his name in the hat for the GOP nomination to face pro-abortion president Barack Obama. If he does, Texas pro-life groups give him high marks.

“Governor Rick Perry has always championed the pro-life cause, tirelessly advocating for the sanctity of innocent human life in numerous ways,” Texas Right to Life executive director Elizabeth Graham tells LifeNews.com.

Governor Perry has worked alongside Texas Right to Life, helping shepherd our pro-life bills and eagerly supporting our measures,” Graham said. “As governor of Texas, he has intervened to stop anti-life legislation on a number of occasions, and he has helped clear obstacles when necessary.” ………….

Texas Gov. Rick Perry blasted pro-abortion President Barack Obama on pro-life issues "Perry said that, under Obama “our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export......."

”Perry has pleased pro-life advocates in Texas many times with signing pro-life legislation — most recently signing an ultrasound bill allowing women to see them before an abortion and hopefully changing their minds on it. He has been strongly supported by pro-life groups. Perry supported or signed into law the Women’s Right to Know Act and the Prenatal Protection Act in 2003, parental consent law in 2005, and funding for alternatives to abortions in 2007 and 2009."

************************

Perry's push for the sonogram bill has fortified his long-standing ties to family values and pro-life groups but it has also made him a target from other circles.

"We would aggressively work to defeat him [Perry], of course," said Terry O'Neill, president of the National Organization for Women, which describes itself as non-partisan but typically backs Democrats. Star Telegram

Margaret Carlson’s take on Perry She hoping he won’t run against Romney, so made an “ick” list about him including:

……”This year, Perry signed into law "emergency legislation" forcing a woman seeking an abortion to have a sonogram, after which she'll be told everything about the fetus. And after Texas's anti-sodomy law was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2003, he supported the state legislature's refusal to remove the law from its books and called the justices "nine oligarchs in robes."………….

Well I know Perry was called a porno loving homosexual early on. He was compared to a rapist by a Freeper with not even a warning. That's what I am talking about. There is nothing in Perry's background or closet to try to destroy hi in that way yet it was done with impunity, so yes, that is a little different than other candidates with the same clean back ground. I also say Anita Perry has been attacked, a very fine woman of integrity, by certain Freepers.

If you think Perry can't win because he's XYZ, say it convincingly but there have been over the top attacks without punishment here. That is fact and it's actually stunned quite a few people.

I am taking about right now, hell I supported Palin at one time but to hold on to hope she is running is gonna end up getting Mit elected. Newt is not a conservative and hasn't been for 10 years. Cain is also out so to hold on to him returning is stupid.

You can't get offended because a candidate didn't run or dropped out and support a guy like Newt. It's suicide.

By the way, do you remember ed Rollins, who ran Bachmann's campaign, say "why do we need Palin, Bachmann is just as accomplished and attractive as Palin" or some such stuff. Why say that?

Yeah I have my questions about why people run for President in the first place.

Normy, you are under some false illusion that Perry is perfect. He isn't. Far from it.

As I asked before, if Perry is the true conservative, why isn't he doing better? He *should* be leading in the polls. Yet, he's polling below Ron Paul.

Sad, isn't it? First it was border fences are silly, and then he became a supporter of strategic border fencing. Then he was all gung ho for gardasil and then admitted in August he didn't do enough research on it. How about 'if illegals are here, we might as well educate them and make them productive' to 'I'll deport all illegals'. Now, the politically expedient turn on abortion.

And some wonder why Perry isn't doing better. It's pretty clear to see why.

Perry can't be trusted.

He's is not perfect. I understand that. He simply has the record to beat Obama and I fear if we go in to this election with a candidate with no record or one 15 years ago we will get beat.

The main and best thing about Perry is his jobs and economic record while Obama has been President. That is what is going to beat Obama's media and his money, a record the voters can touch and feel and compare to Obama's record. I just find it hard to think we are going to out debate or out personality or even out idea Obama. We are going to have to show proof of why our ideas work. Perry has that proof.

Perry has been okay as governor of Texas but not sure he’s the one for president. Not sure any of them running fits that mold but he certainly has the accomplishments in part to be on equal or ahead of most of them.

Perry’s biggest problem maybe due to past Texas affiliated presidents from LBJ’s ‘great society’, GHWB’s ‘new world order’ to GWB’s ‘compasionate conservatism’.

Perry's position on abortion - no exceptions. As to his sincerity, I will leave to him and God. I still prefer him over Newt and it goes without saying I prefer either one of my cats over Romney.

Oh for crying out loud...the Perry supporters more than doubled down on any who came out questioning the man in the initial phase of his campaign.

Man up, or should it be - Cowboy up, since we’re talking about a Texan(?).

If all you Perry supporters fold like cheap lawn chairs on FR, what are you going to do if the man wins the nomination and you have to deal with national scrutiny?

Besides, I like reading about his taxpayer supported in state tuition rates for illegals. ;)
