Gun swap is a weapon against freedom(CA)

Gun turn-in programs (“Annual gun swap hits its mark,” Local, Dec. 20) are the first step to disarm the citizens of the United States. They are designed to desensitize people to the action of giving up our arms at the request of the government.

The Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment in recognition of the God-given right to a person’s self-defense. As they had just fought a war against a tyrant, they recognized the need for every citizen to have the means to defend himself against criminals both local and governmental. Presently there is a modicum of respect (fear) of the people by the government because we have the means to defend ourselves; if we allow ourselves to be disarmed that fear will evaporate.

Once people are disarmed in the name of some peaceful Utopia, history shows that the people suffer. This is what happened with Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot, in Rwanda and in many other countries. If you think it can’t happen here just look at the Japanese-American internment by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Along with the cry of “Give me liberty or death” goes “From my cold dead hands,” as once we have no means of self-defense, all that is left is the death of liberty.

It all begins with psychological disarmament through gun turn-in programs and in the schools, with our children being taught that weapons of self-defense are evil. When our children grow up with this belief, they won’t understand they have a right to self-defense and won’t miss it or their liberty. – Scott Rieker, San Diego

Think of as a ‘tax credit’.

Much like tax credits they use money they take from us in taxes to bribe those living here to conform to desired behavior, in this case to give up your guns.

Typically these give-ways are easy to scam, turn in a broken gun to get money to buy a new one.

My understanding is that government gun buys/amnesties don’t run the weapons through “stolen gun” data bases, which really ticks me off, as these very people claim that they are getting “illegal” guns off the street. So if they aren’t stolen, how are they illegal? Are we to believe that felons are spending $400+ on straw purchases, so that they can get $50 from the police?

Of course, there is a lot of junk turned in, but why would any take $50 from the cops, when they could get more from the local pawn shop? There are only two good reasons. The gun is stolen or they themselves used it in a crime and they want the easy amnesty.

From what I've seen, they're all junk. Broken, rusty, non-functioning "guns".

Like all liberal initiatives, it's only designed to look good so they can feel (false) virtue.

Not to suggest actual sales take place via FR, just threads where interested FReepers talk about what they'd like to acquire, dispose of, or trade.

Perhaps make it a special log-in section available only to donating FReepers - help FR pay the bills, shun riff-raff, and establish some strict disclaimers each time you log in.

Only give them the ones that don’t work anyway.

It should be a REQUIREMENT that the turned in guns be checked as to whether they are stolen property or not. I’m willing to wager that a certain percentage ARE. But that of course would bring the responsibility of determining how the current holder came into possession of it and they’ve promised no action against that person.

even better is the ability to fence stolen property or dispose of crime guns for cash...

'shall NOT be infringed' ring a bell ???

Folks ought to set up near those swap areas and offer $50 bucks more than whatever the authorize swappers are offering. Buy them private sale.

Some have done this, but a few states, notably California, forbid private sales. That is what Bloomberg and his group of illegitimate mayors are after.
