Pentagon trimming ranks of generals, admirals
Washington Post ^ | 12/28/11 | Greg Whitlock

With the Iraq war over and troops in Afghanistan on their way home, the U.S. military is getting down to brass tacks: culling generals and admirals from its top-heavy ranks. Pentagon officials said they have eliminated 27 jobs for generals and admirals since March, the first time the Defense Department has imposed such a reduction since the aftermath of the Cold War, when the collapse of the Soviet Union prompted the military to downsize. The cuts are part of a broader plan to shrink the upper ranks by 10 percent over five years, restoring them

The DoD needs to be streamlined. The place to look for streamlining opportunities are in the acquisition centers. Those centers should be consolidated across the Services and the duplication eliminated.

Why do I think this is along the lines of the GM dealership closure? I’m just glad we have no external threats or I might be worried.

No doubt all the cuts will come from the operational forces. But REMFs in the Pentagon will be spared any discomfort.

The Navy has more Admirals than it does ships.

From the article:

"In ordering the cuts, Gates said the military had succumbed over the years to “brass creep,” by adding a disproportionate number of jobs at the top. The number of four-star generals and admirals today, for instance, is roughly the same as in 1971, during the Vietnam War, even though the number of active-duty troops has shrunk by half."

A 50-75% cut would be wonderful. 10% is barely better than nothing.

I wouldn’t mind if there was a 50-75% cut in the EPA and White House Czars.

The only thing that is being cut is American military readiness. Any money saved by cutting personnel will ge to Obooga’s cronies. Obooga is attempting to do something similar to the Border Patrol. Cut the pay by 25 percent and give the money to pillow biting CBP Directors and Deputies.

I’d go 100% for those, along with eliminating the EPA entirely.

Scary thought. Just like in Babylon 5, "Severed Dreams" : President Clarke spent two years putting his people in key places in the military. When martial law/dictatorship came, he had majority of the military on his side.

“wouldn’t be surprised....our military leaders are a bunch of commie obamists it seems....”

So when Dubya is in office, we’re pro military. Odumbo gets in office the military is full of communists? You bots never cease to disgust me. Not surprising however considering the reaction many on FR put out when the Walter Reed scandal hit in 07.

The remark about our military is a bit bizarre. They vote for/against their commander-in-chief every four years like everyone else, but they follow orders.

As for Greece, its main problem is that it is a far-left welfare state gone-broke. But a major reason for that crappy state of affairs is the popular backlash against a right-wing military coup a generation or two ago.

Any bets none of the “culled” officers are women or faggots? The scumbag Ubama has ordered the Pentagon to cut loose any top officer who is not totally on board with the sodomization of the US military. He figures he only has another year left to do as much damage as possible to America and its armed forces. (spit) ..That sick piece of sh!+...

In 1965 we had 17 general officers living on our air base........Directly across the Potomac from the pentagon.

Remember the old saying, “You prepare for peace by preparing for war”? Guess that got put on the shelf too.

I’d say keep the military brass and dump the dumb ass politicians and non-productive government leaches.

Ford Motors did something pretty stupid a few years back and wish to this day they had not dumped their senior engineers. It came back to haunt them for a while but it seems they saw the error of their ways since Ford didn’t need to be bought out by the Government.

Our local recruitment center is consolidated. All branches are there.

I suppose the individual recruiters represent their service but a recruit can visit all of them at more or less one visit.
