From $2,000 dress to $1,000 skirt, Michelle Obama's lavish Hawaii wardrobe revealed

Complete title: Well what else would one wear on a $4m break? From $2,000 dress to $1,000 skirt, Michelle Obama's lavish Hawaii wardrobe revealed

Michelle Obama successfully managed to rile U.S. taxpayers with her lavish $4m family jaunt to Hawaii this Christmas.

But it seems her expensive taste has not stopped there, as her vacation wardrobe has proved to be equally lavish.

Though the First Lady has only been spotted on a couple of occasions since arriving in Kailua, Oahu, some sartorial analysis of her fashion choices has revealed that her outfits have been consistently high-end.

A classic example, as spotted by the blog Naked DC, was the seemingly simple sundress she chose for a church service at the Kaneohe Bay Marine Base on Christmas Day.

The white frock with red and yellow stripes was certainly pretty and occasion-appropriate, but cheap, it most certainly was not.

A design by French-born, U.S.-based designer Sophie Theallet, who is a favourite with fashion insiders, it would have set Mrs Obama back almost $2,000 when she bought it in 2009.

More recent creations by Theallet sell for even higher figures, a mark-up likely triggered by demand following the First Lady's endorsement of the label.

I’m mostly shocked that anyone would pay a couple of grand for something that looks like it came off discount rack at the local K-Mart, designer label or not.

I think I saw a skirt like hers at my favorite consignment store for about $20.

I vehemently disagree with those who insult the First Lady’s body.

It is childish and something a liberal would do.

WE ARE CONSERVATIVES!!!! GROW UP!

Spending is the issue here!

Extravagant spending (even if they use their own money) during the most severe recession since the 1930s would be lambasted by the MSM under a Republican administration.....an excellent illustration of media bias for your liberal friends who do not believe it exists.

..probably also on our dime...

Why don’t we know? The kind of money they are spending has to come from either a gov fund (our money) or are gifts (not reported contributions?). I think enough is enough, now they are flouting this in our faces

I’m used to Michelle dressing like and her husband acting like clowns but the comments on the article are incredible.

The class warfare game is really working on a number of our population. They’ve been told so often by this particular clown that some have so much and others have so little, they actually believe it. All the while defending the amount of taxpayer $$$’s spent on getting that family to and from HI.

Calling GWB names because he was at his ranch in TX on vacations and “several others going to CA” sure shows a lot of ignorance. As tho’ going to their own homes MUST have been as costly as going on vacations in HI and around the world! Besides - “the president is still the president no matter where he vacations!” That was a sentiment that wasn’t very popular when GWB went to TX.

I have no idea why I think these people can be reasoned with as they are just too far gone to see the forest for the trees.

LOL, you have a future writing copy for Vogue. It’s her money to spend as she sees fit but she should use some of it to buy some taste and sensitivity lessons. I think it’s an incredibly insensitive use of personal dollars when so many people can’t afford groceries. Not to mention her clothes are almost always butt ugly. The vacation is an entirely different issue. That they get away with such wholesale over the top personal spending on our dime makes me see red.

no class, no elegance

I've posted this a couple of times before, so stop me if you've heard it....

I'm guessing that the WH has entire legions of people who handle protocol. What to wear, how to walk, formal methods of address....right down to which spoon to use at the WH dinners. I don't know this for a fact, but I think it's a pretty good guess. At the very least, it would most certainly be instantly there for the asking.

The fact Moochelle dresses like a frump, has all the decorum of a teenager in full sneer, and walks like a Russian hod carrier tells me one of two things:

1. She thinks that she knows better than people who do this sort of thing for a living.

2. She doesn't care what people - who do this sort of thing for a living - think.

Or, it could easily be 1 and 2, both. Either way, it tells me a whole lot about her.

“IMO, I think all the coverage of the Hawaii trip are really starting to ‘tick’ people off.”

IMO, I think all Americans should be ticked off by his routine Christmastime(Kwanzaatime as he would call it) Hawaii trips. He is the only American President to routinely leave the capital during the holidays. Presidents Reagan, Bush I and II never did. Clinton went to NC one year and Kosovo another. Before President Reagan, I think you would have to go all the way to Nixon to find a President that had the audacity to do this even one time. It forces all the White House staff to give up their holiday plans, and it is extremely expensive. Behaving like a ruler.

George W. Bush, bought his ranch in Texas with his own money, and it doesnt even come to half as much as this vacation will cost the taxpayers. He made sure he can work out of it, and it doesn’t interupt the locals.

The media gives him a pass, because they say, well he is from Hawaii. Well no, he was a Illinois Senator when he was elected. He does not have a single relative there. He is just trying to cement in the lie that he was even born there.

“I remember the national scandal that was talked about endlessly by the lame stream media when she ordered new china to replace the old, mis-matched patterns for the WH dining room. Since I never watch the news or daily talk shows, can anyone tell me if there’s been any outrage voiced about Moochie’s wardrobe or their $4 Mil Hawaiian vacation?”

If they replaced old WH china, then they replaced the china that many Americans including President Bush donated to the WH upon his exit. Him and Laura Bush donated a very expensive set. Other Presidents have as well.
