From $2,000 dress to $1,000 skirt, Michelle Obama's lavish Hawaii wardrobe revealed

Complete title: Well what else would one wear on a $4m break? From $2,000 dress to $1,000 skirt, Michelle Obama's lavish Hawaii wardrobe revealed

Michelle Obama successfully managed to rile U.S. taxpayers with her lavish $4m family jaunt to Hawaii this Christmas.

But it seems her expensive taste has not stopped there, as her vacation wardrobe has proved to be equally lavish.

Though the First Lady has only been spotted on a couple of occasions since arriving in Kailua, Oahu, some sartorial analysis of her fashion choices has revealed that her outfits have been consistently high-end.

A classic example, as spotted by the blog Naked DC, was the seemingly simple sundress she chose for a church service at the Kaneohe Bay Marine Base on Christmas Day.

The white frock with red and yellow stripes was certainly pretty and occasion-appropriate, but cheap, it most certainly was not.

A design by French-born, U.S.-based designer Sophie Theallet, who is a favourite with fashion insiders, it would have set Mrs Obama back almost $2,000 when she bought it in 2009.

More recent creations by Theallet sell for even higher figures, a mark-up likely triggered by demand following the First Lady's endorsement of the label.

"Sarah Palin caught more than a load of flak about her wardrobe, too"

Ah, but it's not wrong when they do it.

I’ve never been rich, but I can’t imagine spending $2k on a dress even if I was. The most expensive thing I’ve ever purchased to wear was a pair of Ugg boots, and they’re functional and have lasted for years.

I don’t understand buying clothes or purses for thousands of dollars. I don’t begrudge people spending their own money for whatever they want, but to spend so much needlessly borders on sin (imo).

“”how to walk””

If anyone in that family had lessons on “how to walk”, they weren’t very successful. I wouldn’t let the girls out in public until they mastered the proper way to walk. The arrogance of the parents shows up in how the girls walk.

"Watch it suckaaa....!"

Every time I see Moochelle-ma-Belle, I can't help but think that she reminds me of "Aunt Esther" on Sanford and Son"

The dress and the skirt in the photos are nice. But those silver shoes have got to go. Silver shoes seem to be a favorite of hers or it’s what she puts on when she doesn’t know what else to do. Her stylist should suggest some sandals. I mean, they are in Hawaii.

We need to crack down on the money Rich People spend on clothing. There must be some sort of law preventing this misuse of personal capital.

You would think for that kind of coin she could at least look nice.

So, epic fail for the designers, or just working with a hopeless subject?

I could go either way on that - I've seen some designer stuff that I'd rather see the model wearing the box/bag that it came in. Then again, Mrs. hussein is not an attractive woman to start with, not sure there is much she can do to change that...

Erik, stop being vehement and take a breath! You’re wrong. Had she never opened her smarmy mouth about the ‘shape’ of the American citizen (obese, fat, overweight, out of shape) I’d let you skate. But her ‘shape’ does matter. She’s a beast with a evil mouth to match.

Well, to be fair, no one in my family ever taught *me* how to walk.

But, I'm not filmed and photographed everywhere I go, every day of the year. I'd be a little more conscious of what I looked like, were that to happen. And, likely, I'd find someone who could coach me in the proper niceities.

She looks awful in everything.

But, if she had the sense to consult a decent designer, surely something could be found that would make her look decent.

Those clothes look like garage sale or thrift shop buys.

If AF 1 & 2 are parked at Andrews I assume it’s a gov’t cost. But if they are parked at a municipal airport I assume WE pay for parking them,...and guarding them, and the flight crews needed to man them just in case a new golf course is opened up in Dubai and The First Rectum needs leave Lotus Land quickly to get in a round with marxist pals!

And I will bet anybody she did not pay a dime for that crap. Fat-ass was the walking advertisement for that nightmare.

Here in Panama I can buy something similar and just as hogly made in China for about $10 - $15. The difference is that I would not be caught dead in it.

Anyone else remember the ration of excrement Nancy Reagan used to get from the American MSM about her wardrobe?

Why go back so far when we have the much more recent example of the outrage at the cost of Sarah Palin's wardrobe from 2008.

“For all the money she spends on clothes, you would think she could find something NICE”

I am sure they are given to her to advertise. I don’t believe she spent/spends a dime of her/our money on those gawd-awful crap.
