The Huntsman campaign is going on-air in New Hampshire with this video, which scores a pretty solid hit on Paul with the newsletter issue, ending with his embarrassing flight from the Gloria Borger interview:
As we count down the final few days before Iowa, I also wanted to point out and hopefully tie together some of the remaining questions about the Ron Paul newsletters. This somewhat lengthy piece is definitely worth a read even if it is somewhat obviously written by someone with an axe to grind in an intra-libertarian movement fight. I find the conclusion of the piece to be sound, which is that Paul himself probably did not most (or any) of the racist material himself, but he was certainly willing to “toast a marshmallow on a cross that someone else was burning.”
Consider the following: at least one eyewitness account indicates that while Paul did not write most of what went in the newsletter, he was fastidious about approving every word before it went to print. This is consistent with what we know about Ron Paul, who is obsessive about his public image when it comes to political doctrine. The idea that he would allow a newsletter to be printed for a decade in his own name without having more than a casual interest in what was contained in the newsletter is contrary to everything we know about Ron Paul. It is also directly contradictory to his actions in 1995 and 1996 when he defended the content in the newsletters.

Huntsman is Left of Romney. So who cares. Heck he might be slightly left of Obama.
I guess, with Huntsman now attacking Paul, I guess it is safe to say that Paul is not a liberal...and that the people so dead set against him now have a friend in Obama’s buddy Jon Huntsman....Huntsman is to the left of Obama
Of all the horrible things going on in this country in the name of we citizens, the thing he goes after is a guy who has 0 chance of being the nominee.

I cannot understand why Huntsman polls at all in the R candidate field. I saved a transcript of his responses in the first debate,to confirm he is to the Left of Obama. Heck, even O knows when to re-align closer to center left, Huntsman creeps me out.
On exactly which policy is Huntsman to the “left of Obama.”
I’ll happily back Huntsman’s conservative record against that of Romney’s too....

Huntsman is a liberal. Never! Ever! Ever, would I support someone who changes positions slightly less than Kerry.

Thank you for the reply. I’m sorry but Governor Huntsman’s record is nowhere NEAR that of a liberal. As ever, context is everything. Huntsman’s comments on the stimulus package were a call for more tax-cuts. He has made this clear. He wanted to see a payroll tax exemption or a cut in corporate tax for small and medium sized businesses.
On civil unions his position isn’t exactly equivocal. He has a similar approach to that of George W Bush. You may not agree with him, but he is quite clear on this.
Becoming Ambassador to China has been done to death on this site. He served his country. I see no reason not to take the man at his word.
Cap-and-trade WAS a position that Huntsman changed his mind on. He admits this. The position was on the table at the time, but economic changes have rendered that unrealistic. Politicians will change their mind on SOME things. They would be rather stubborn, narrow-minded individuals if their thinking did not evolve at all.
We are not talking Mitt Romney here though. Huntsman has been unswerving in his core beliefs. Look at his pro-life record, look at his pro-gun record.
Nobody could examine the full Jon Huntsman record and claim (in all seriousness) that he was a ‘liberal’. Surely?
Could a liberal:
Be an immensely popular governor of one of the most conservative states in the union?
Be a tax-cutter, with a superb job-creation record, while making moves to reform the tax code of his state into a fairer, flatter one?
Be willing to experiment with a School Vouchers program in his state?
Be solidly pro-life? Signing pro-life legislation into law as governor?
Be praised by the NRA for his passing of pro-2nd Amendment legislation?
Be the only candidate to unequivocally support the Ryan Plan?
Have their economic plan be endorsed by The Wall Street Journal?
Of course, you aren’t going to agree with Jon Huntsman on everything. Perhaps the guy repels you. That’s entirely your choice. But when you look at the big picture, when you actually look at the man’s record, and what he has actually DONE not simply said. When you push past image and get to substance, you do not find a liberal, you find a consistent conservative record.
Compare his record to Romney’s, or even Gingrich’s, and if you don’t find a conservative there, well, I’d better grab a dictionary and re-check the definition.
You quote Brair at a Republican debate. Of course he is attempting to be provocative. Of course he is jabbing the Republican with a pointy stick, it’s what the media do at debates.
Hope my last post didn’t come across as rude in any way. I wouldn’t want to be disrespectful. I’m just swinging (perhaps futilely!) away for my candidate.

I don’t have a candidate. Not here to play pimp my candidate anyway.
That’s a shame. ‘Pimp My Candidate’ is an excellent game. Not quite as much fun as Twister or Monopoly, but it helps pass the long evening hours in New Hampshire in January.
When someone gets so far into a candidate that they ignore or overlook the obvious,they are no longer open to rational thought. That’s how we got the current president. This is a debate and ideas forum, not a place to pimp candidates and ask for money, IMHO.
