Ron Paul: Sanctions against Iran are 'acts of war'
LA Times via Weasel Zippers ^ | 12/29/2011 | Paul West

Posted on 12/29/2011 1:55:50 PM PST by mk2000

Reporting from Perry, Iowa— Defending himself against charges of isolationism, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul told voters in Iowa on Thursday that western sanctions against Iran are "acts of war" that are likely to lead to an actual war in the Middle East.

Paul, one of the leading contenders to win next week's Iowa caucuses, said Iran would be justified in responding to the sanctions by blocking the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz. He compared the western sanctions to a hypothetical move by China to block the Gulf of Mexico, which Americans would consider an act of war

The actual title:

Ron Paul: Sanctions against Iran are 'acts of war'

Note it is quite different than what you made up and also does not use a numeral as a word.

People like him/her need to distort truths to get their points across. Seems to be a common theme here since Paul is up in polls. No different than the lamestream media

He is an idiot with zero knowledge of geography. It would be like MEXICO blocking the Gulf of Mexico, not China. Imbecile. And Iran's action affects 8 nations, not one.

Nothing in human history says our nation has to last and remain powerful. The United States is free to disarm and commit national suicide as Paul and his non thinking followers wish.

There is nothing keeping us from doing that. Only people thinking, knowing history, and refusing to be intellectually lazy will prevent it.

Ron Paul is a great patriot to the Islamic Republic of Iran. His steadfast defense of the Islamic dictatoral regime and his fight against the American Imperialist to secure their right to nuclear weapons shows how strongly he stands by his principles. His pusuit of terrorist rights is second to none. Even Code Pink can not hold a candle to Ron Paul as being a friend to dictators and terrorists and all anti-American forces across the globe.

I wonder, the few Paul supporters who are actually sane, do they ever sit there and listen to the words coming out of his mouth or do they just look at him and go “Awwwwww, he’s so charismatic and charming” kind of like the way people looked at Obama in 2008, without listening to his WORDS. Ron Paul is a nightmare for the GOP, the GOP’s worst nightmare. If the GOP wanted to see what a nightmare scenario would be like this is it, if Ron Paul gets the nomination its over for the GOP. If the GOP has any sense left they will make sure this guy doesn’t have ANY chance at getting the nomination

Ron Paul is so multifaceted he can appeal to so many. The Islamic Brotherhood and Code Pink must love this. Stormfront loves his racist views in his newsletters. Truthers and conspiracy nuts enjoy his crackpot 9/11 comments. Drug abusers and losers cannot wait for his legalizing dope. Criminals are looking for their release from prisons. China and others like them cannot wait for the US to pull out of military bases worldwide so that they can fill the void. And Democrats everywhere are enjoying his screwing up the GOP primary.

The title you used

" Paul tells Voters Sanctions Against Iran Act of War Mullahs Need Nukes 2 Gain Respect From Israel "

had to be replaced with the original published title. Please do not make up your own title nor edit any published title. Just use the original published title.

After you have copied and pasted in the complete original title, and only if there is room, you may then place your personal comment in parentheses next to the title.

Thanks.

Paul is categorically wrong on the topic. Sanctions are and always have been an alternative action short of war, put in place not to advance conflict, but to avoid it. They also have been notably ineffective in doing so.

What is your plan, Mr. Paul?

His logic is batty. We're talking about an embargo on trade with Iran. We are not contemplating a blockade to prevent someone else from trading with Iran. An embargo is not an act of war. A blockade is.

Using RP's logic then in 1941 the US refusal to sell oil to Japan was an act of war and the Japanese were justified in attacking Pearl Harbor.

I'll preface this with the point that I don't support Paul, but a little history lesson is necessary for all to understand that sanctions can lead to war.

From the source pastfoundation.org

"An American embargo cut off shipments of scrap steel, raw materials, oil and high-octane gasoline, while freezing Japanese financial assets in the United States. The Japanese, having only a six-month supply of strategic fuel available for its armed forces, felt the only choice was to initiate the conquest of Southeast Asia, which meant inevitable war with America, Britain, and the Netherlands. Japan had seen the United States expand its naval authority in the Pacific in the late 1930s."

From debka.com
"The new round is expected to shear off 80 percent of the Islamic Republic's revenues. The European Union's 27 member-states meet in January to approve an embargo on Iranian oil, with effect on 25 percent of Iran's energy exports. Next month, too, President Barack Obama plans to sign into law an amendment authorizing severe penalties for foreign banks trading with Iran's central bank, CBI, including the loss of links with American banks and financial institutions. Tehran is expected to strike back hard by sowing mines in Hormuz and in the waters opposite the oil fields and terminals of fellow Persian Gulf oil producers, including Saudi Arabia."

Now you may return to your 2 minutes of hate. Me I'm making contingency plans for higher gas prices, much higher gas prices.
