Bachmann campaign loses second key staffer in Ron Paul flap

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann's campaign lost another high-ranking staff member on Thursday after that staffer defended another former Bachmann official's defection to a rival campaign. Wes Enos, Bachmann's political director, has left the campaign, spokeswoman Alice Stewart confirmed to NBC News on Thursday evening. The resignation comes on the heels of last night's announcement by Iowa state Sen. Kent Sorenson, who had served as Bachmann's Iowa chairman, that he had stepped down from that position to support Texas Rep. Ron Paul's campaign instead. Yesterday, Enos publicly defended Sorenson, an Iowa state Senator, against charges voiced by Bachmann that Sorenson had accepted money from the Paul campaign, in violation of state law. (This narrative is disputed by Sorenson himself.) "I can't in good conscious watch a good man like Kent Sorenson be attacked as a sell-out," Enos told NBC News on Wednesday night, insisting that Sorenson felt personal loyalty to colleagues in the state legislature backing Paul.

Sorenson is unprincipled. Michele made a mistake hiring him, and Paul is making a mistake hiring him away. He’ll wind up betraying Paul too.

In the end... Santorum coming in 3rd helps Romney and hurts Newt and Perry.

No, she did NOT lie about Newt, and you know that.

If she does bow out, at least she can still be a champion in the House. Hopefully we’ll gain more Tea Party Congresscritters, and Bachmann may be able to put together a coalition to unseat the weeper from Speaker.

Bachmann’s been played from day one when she brought on Ed Rollins as campaign manager. She never had a chance.

This candidate seems to have problems keeping staff. Is she difficult to work with?

Sorry, imo, this conduct is just rank ingratitude. I can understand if they wish to leave, but there is a professional and decorous way to do it.

Certainly.

Past history of one’s actions can certainly be a relaible indicator of the future.

I’m thinking she won’t bow out, but more likely curtsy out. She’s a refined lady after all.

Congress is key, no matter who becomes president.

If Obama wins, a Tea-party congress can keep him tied up.
If Romney wins, he won’t challenge a Tea-party congress.
If Newt or Perry wins, they can work with a Tea-party congress to undo much of the damage that was done.

You are correct. She was encouraged to get in (for only one reason) by people who did not have her best interests at heart. She goes through staff like crazy and is a known commodity in politics so people with skills stayed away from her. I doubt very seriously if she approached Rollins. If she did, it was only because nobody would touch her. Rollins had his own agenda, while gaving the impression of getting a campaign going, but clearly did not.

She will have a tough time getting reelected. Fund raising is going to be a problem. She transferred big bucks from her congressional war chest and during her scorched earth campaign has pissed off the very people she is going to need to fund another congressional run.

Lastly, during the course of her campaign she demonstrated some character flaws that will be tough to overcome. The embellishment of her personal and professional accomplishments in addition to outright lies about the other candidates will haunt her. I just wish she would go away for a while, try and repair her image and come back with more realistic goals.

Michelle said Newt supported bailing out Fannie and Freddie, what's worse, she was on the stage with him, when he said that shouldn't be done... in Sept 2008, before the bailout...

"Governing & Political Change" held in St. Paul, Minnesota.

September 3, 2008

Bachmann: The question is on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the outrage and will it go private? or where are Fannie Mae and Feddie Mac going to go?

Gingrich: Well, I think this is one of the great tests of reform - of a populist reform conservatism.

There is ZERO reasons to bail out these two institutions.

They have violated the fundamental principle of why they were created.

And I did a fair amount of-... Let me be right up front... I did a fair amount of work with Freddie Mac, looking atit, consulting it, but not at a fiduciary level, but at a general public policy level.

I am appalled at the degree of management irresponsibility that both places have had, and I think they should be treated precisely like a private sector institution, And the stockholders, and the senior management should fundamentally have to bear the brunt... I don't think you want to let them go broke, because they're enormous, and that has a BIG second and third order consequence on the system.

But I think what you want to say, is as a consequence of their survival, they should be broken up, they should go thru the equivalent of a receivership, and everybody who was profiting from them should pay the cost of having failed.

And the general taxpayer should NOT bear that burden. and I think that could be handled totally different.

But there is ZERO reason, now that they've failed... I was perfectly happy to to not PUSH the issue, as long as they weren't failing, but NOW that they've clearly failed their fiduciary responsibility, there is zero reason for the average taxpayer to bail out these institutions.

And their senior managements have been DISGRACEFUL in the mismanagement, particularly I think, of Fannie Mae which had huge, huge, internal problems in terms of accounting, in a way you can't quite understand...

How could people run an institution THAT badly?

and there's a video if the transcript is too daunting for you... Michelle is standing right behind Newt... I don't if it is in this video, but she also said some very positive things about Newt... whom she now depicts as a greedy Washington insider...

If Romney wins the Republicans will need a super majority to override his vetoes.

If Obama wins, a Tea-party congress can keep him tied up.

That's our only hope. We've got to get enough Tea Party people in BOTH houses to topple the "good old boy" network that gave us Boehner and McConnell. Otherwise the RINOs will scuttle every initiative that makes the Republican Establishment look bad on the Sunday Talk Shows.

Early morning of Jan 4th. She has already packed her bags.

I still hope she makes it until the 8th of January.

It will give her a chance to (finally) get Elvis's birthday right.

That would mean that he’d actually have to stand for something.

If he hasn’t really stood for anything at this point, why would he start now?

He’s like jello, he’ll fit into whatever ideological container he has to. Give him a Tea-party congree and he’ll be a Tea-partier. Give him a RINO congress and he’ll be a RINO.

” Get ready for this to hit all the comedy shows and campaign ads. It is sure to hurt us in a very big way. “ <<<<

I fear you are correct. This does, again, play to the advantage of Romney.

Just between you and me, if I wanted to jump the shark, profess myself to be a certified, conspiratorial loon, I would say that even in her eminent demise, the Bachmann campaign’s last gasp continues to project and promote and defend the Romney game plan. I know, the ledge is looming here, but I barely can stifle the fury at Michelle in particular, and the third tier mishief-makers in general.
