It took me a while to figure this out with Google Earth. It appears to be “approximately”
-——————————2225 miles—————————————
between San Francisco (38*N 122*W) and the nearest village to Cleveland Volcano - Nikolski, AK (53*N 169*W).
Like I said, its a LONG way from SF Bay and no way a little Volcano fart at 15,000 feet is going to reach THAT far.
When the Iceland volcano erupted, Europe and Russia saw colored sunsets within a day or 2. New Zealand saw them within a week of the Chilean volcano.
Lots of factors determine how far and fast the ash travels, and I wouldn't say it is impossible without having a lot more information.
