Au revoir ummuah!

“France’s interior minister has made it clear that immigrants who refuse to “assimilate” into French society should be denied French citizenship.”

I noticed this par:

Candidates will be tested on French culture and history, and will have to prove their French language skills are equivalent to those of a 15-year-old mother tongue speaker.

So they're only going to admit cunning linguists? /James Bond reference>

Cheers!

I think it’s the right thing to do. In Texas, where I live, I’m very sick and tired of everything having to be printed in both English and Spanish, at great expense to the taxpayers. FGS—our voting ballots are even printed in Spanish!

How dumb is that!

Candidates will be tested on French culture and history, and will have to prove their French language skills are equivalent to those of a 15-year-old mother tongue speaker. They will also be required to sign a new charter establishing their rights and responsibilities.

If the US tried to do this the UN and the world would scream.

The Nation of France is doing what it should have had the sense to do years ago. Use the USA as an example.
The United States welcomed and absorbed literally millions of the “Tired, Poor, yearning to be free” and did what?
Each retained their native culture, but their children were taught in American schools, learning ENGLISH, AMERICAN history, AMERICAN culture and those immigrant children grew up to be AMERICANS, even as they acknowledged their roots.
Those new Americans grew up to take over the country, educationally, culturally, and politically. What was the origin of the Kennedys, Eisenhower, and hundreds of others who were “IMMIGRANTS” of the second or third generation.
France seems to have finally seen the fruits of the stupid drive to “Multi-culturalism”. Look around, you and see children, born here, yet unable to speak the “language of the land”, totally unlearned of American history and culture.
To France I can only say, “’Bout time, isn’t it?”

“If the US tried to do this the UN and the world would scream.”

Really?

Our ‘language’ test may not be as comprehensive but does insure a ‘candidate’ does know how to at least read and write English.

I wonder what the sentences are and if they ever change them? I was thinking more along the lines of making prospects learn our history and values and assimilation!

That’s so weird. It’s almost like the French value French citizenship and don’t think it should be passed out to any pedestrian that happens to stumble across their borders. Freaks. </obvious-sarc>

They need to go further than that. The French have a negative population growth due to birth control and abortion. They will have to outlaw those for women who have fewer than two children.

The ‘sentence’ is they fail.

No citizenship.

However, I’m not sure they will be deported, but will probably have their ‘green card’ extended until they pass the test.

“I was thinking more along the lines of making prospects learn our history and values and assimilation!”

The ‘history’ lesson is part of the test.

Heck, half, if not more of the naturalized ‘American Citizens’ probably couldn’t pass it.

As far as ‘values and assimilation are concerned, you can’t possibly mean they have to give up their ‘culture and values’ to comply to ours? Do you? /s

The ACLU would be all over you for ‘discrimination’./no sarcasm intended..

This bilingual deal was a failed experiment in Belgium, but it was such a gross failure Canada decided to adopt it.

I gather Texans are just enamored of all things Canadian ~ snow and stuff ~ so they've tried it.

It's stupid. We've known for thousands of years that linguistic minorities must still learn the language in general use as well.

No they wouldn’t. The ACLU might, but those old boys in the UN know what it’s like living in places where you can’t order a pizza 10 miles away.

While I applaud the move, until they kick out their Muslim population, it’s akin to closing the barn door after the horses have already escaped.
