Remains Found at U.S. Border Lake Where American Was Reported Killed by Mexican Pirates

Authorities are investigating human remains found at the same U.S. border lake where a Colorado man was reported to have been killed by Mexican drug cartel members last year.

A professional fisherman found the skeletal remains on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake on the Texas-Mexico border, according to multiple reports.

The skeleton was found about 15 miles from where 30-year-old David Hartley was last seen alive on Sept. 30, 2010. His wife, Tiffany Hartley, said the couple had set out on Wave Runners to take photos of a half-submerged church on the Mexican side of the lake when they were attacked.

Hartley told authorities that her husband was shot in the back of the head while the couple tried to dodge bullets from three boats of Mexican pirates. The woman told investigators she was forced to leave her husband lying face down in the water because she was unable to pull him onto her watercraft. Hartley's body has never been recovered.

This is an inconclusive report thus far. Instead of recovering the body, the fisherman reported it to Mexican authorities. Ay, ay, ay.

I think the water has washed away all incriminating evidence anyway.

I'd like to say they're hiding under a rock somewhere, but I see them mouthing off on other FR threads all the time.

Previous FR thread (one of many): Falcon Lake Murder: New Blood Evidence Found (Video) October 8, 2010

(snip)Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez says that he has a witness who corroborates Tiffany Hartley’s story. That witness, whose identity is being concealed out of safety concerns, claims that when Hartley came off the lake on her jet ski, she was being chased by men in a boat and that she was sobbing and frantic.

The crime scene is the middle of the lake, not where the remains came to rest.

This young wife had just experienced one of the most frightening and horrific incidents anyone could be expected to endure and there were actually some who thought she was guilty. UNBELIEVABLE

Skeletal remains, huh? Well, unless they turn them over to the actors on one of the forensics TV shows, I don't think we'll ever know what happened.

I can understand thinking it, as one of many possibilities, but there were many posters who came out and outright accused her.

What’s the old saying “don’t believe everything you think”?

What really pissed me off when this was happening was the reaction of that sorry excuse for a congressman, Henry Cuellar.

There was a murder of an American citizen-and subsequently the decapitation of the Mexican chief investigator tasked with solving the crime-this no-account scumbag was casting aspersions upon the character of this man's widow.

maybe. I’m sure that our consular officials and the Federales and Mexican state (Tamaulipas?) are just working furiously on this \s.

Can’t say whats legal in Mexico but in TX moving the deceased without telling the sheriff first is .. troublesome to explain later.

“Where are all those posters who thought she was faking it?”

I remember it being Big Media leading that charge, because Hussein was busy fighting Arizona.

I don’t recall many at all here believing that she was faking it.

Thought this was interesting..Apparently the Mexican Authorities don't always go to the trouble of retrieving dead bodies on Falcon Lake:

ZAPATA COUNTY - Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez says we may never know the identity of the person whose human remains were found at Falcon Lake.

The skeletal remains were found in Mexican waters in Falcon Lake just across from San Ygancio, Texas, about 13 miles north of Zapata. A professional fisherman, Alton Jones of Waco, found what appeared to be a human skeleton.

Jones spoke out about what happened on his Facebook account. He posted that he and the folks with him told Border Patrol. Sheriff Gonzalez says we may never know the identity of these bones.

"In the past, we have had bodies that we have seen floating. They are deceased. Sometimes it's taken Mexican authorities up to a month to respond and sometimes still they don't find the body. It disappears," says Gonzalez.

The last time a body was reported to Zapata County sheriff's deputies was three months ago. They still don't know the identity of that body.
