A federal judge has blocked a California state budget cut that would have affected rural patients, the latest indication that courts will have the last word on Medi-Cal reductions.
Gov. Jerry Brown and lawmakers cut reimbursement rates to a variety of Medi-Cal providers by 10 percent to save $623 million in their June budget. Physicians, pharmacists and hospitals, among others, have argued that the cut to California's already low payment rates would discourage providers from accepting Medi-Cal patients and reduce access.
U.S. District Court Judge Christina Snyder issued a preliminary injunction Wednesday blocking the specific rate cut to nursing units within hospitals, many of which are located in rural California. Snyder determined that the California Hospital Association and other plaintiffs had a reasonable argument that the state had failed to appropriately review whether Medi-Cal patients would lose sufficient access to care.

So who actually governs us?
The ruling is easy for the judge, she doesn’t have to come upnwith the money.
And she is unaswerable to the taxpayes. Clearly an intolerable arangment.
There’s no way to fix this level of stupid, and this level of judicial tyranny. Give the Left everything they want, and let the system run until the wheels fall off.
“A federal judge has blocked a California state budget cut”
How is this a federal matter?
So sufficient access to medical care is a "right" under the law? I thought it was like charity for people would could not afford to buy insurance.
So what is the point of having insurance if the state is required to provide care for you?
I think this is the type of judge, Gingrich was referring to.
ObamaCare (CommieCare) is gonna be a real hoot!!! If you have any problems, you may want to get them looked at right a way while you still can. Once health care officially becomes “a right”, we’re all gonna be **** Outta Luck.
Miss Federal Judge can interfere because federal money is being used as part of the funding for Medi-Caid aka Medi-Cal. If you takes the fed money, you gets the feds!
These lefty judges are out of control.
Why do we need an elected legislature if a judge can claim the final word?
If the state is facing bankrupycy (as it certainly must, sooner or later) how can the judicial compel the State to demand more money than the citizens have to be taken from them?
In my universe, any judge who would make what is literally an insane order, he/she/it would be banned from ANY position of public authority for life! No matter how trivial.
Somebody needs to put that judge’s head on a pike as lesson to his peers. The state legislature decides on the budget - not the judiciary. ESPECIALLY not the Federal judiciary.
Medi-cal is funded 50/50 from the Feds and California state, for some $20 billion annually. So if Moonbeam wants to cut Medi-cal 10% or $2 billion, then is he reducing state cost $2 billion or $1 billion state & $1 billion Fed.
Anyway, I’m not at all sure why a Federal judge rules on this. I would think California could elect to take no federal funds and cut as much from Medi-cal as it wants to. I can see the Fed protesting if the state wants to cut its cost while encumbering the full Federal amount.
So I am confused how the Fed judge can rule on this unless there is some ongoing agreement that a certain amount will be spent on Medi-cal, locking in California’s share.
Other than that, I am just confused.
Oh — illegal women and children hit hardest. /sarc
She’s probably just pissed off about this:
Jury Awards $225,000 Against Judge Snyder in Automobile Case
By a MetNews Staff Writer
A jury in Santa Monica returned a $225,000 verdict Friday against U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder in an injury suit brought by a bicyclist, the plaintiffs lawyer said.
Attorney David Hoffman said the Los Angeles Superior Court jury came in with the award following a seven-day trial before Judge Richard Nidorf.
Neither Snyder nor her attorney, Michael Dolan, could be reached for comment.
Hoffman said his client, Alex Outhrednow 27was on his bike and on his way to see his sister when Snyder struck him with her car on her way home from work on June 29, 2000.
Hoffman said Snyder, a member of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California since 1997, stopped 150 feet after striking Outhred, then returned to the scene and told him she had not seen him. Hoffman said his client asked the judge to replace his bicycle, but she declined.
Outhred suffered a tear to his left knee, which had been injured twice before, Hoffman said.
Snyder sought a comparative negligence verdict but the jury rejected the idea, Hoffman said.
every time the state trys to reduce the % of payemnt amout to whoever they go to the feds and some dumba** judge stays the cut in payments
