Gov. Perry Pockets Salary, Pension
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | December 31, 2011 | Thomas Cole

Posted on 12/31/2011 6:32:48 PM PST by CedarDave

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry is a so-called double dipper, collecting a state government pension and salary totaling more than $240,000.

Perry’s disclosure that he “retired” this year while still governor of Texas has become somewhat of an issue in the days leading up to the GOP presidential caucuses in Iowa on Tuesday.

Given New Mexico’s distaste for double dipping by public employees, I thought you might want to know more. We banned the practice for most state and local government workers in 2010.

Perry, 61, filed a financial disclosure this month with the Federal Election Commission showing he is collecting an annual state pension of more than $92,000 on top of his yearly governor’s salary of $150,000.

He continues to make pension contributions and will be eligible for a pension increase once he leaves the Governor’s Office, in addition to state-provided health care benefits and Social Security payments, according to published reports.

Not a big deal.

If he’s eligible to receive them, he’s eligible.

That’s all that matters on this point.

This whole “story” is a load of BS. Perry is following the pension rules exactly as they were written and intended.

I took my Social Security when I reached my full retirement age even though I continued working. I did nothing wrong. I followed exactly the rules set up by the system, just as Perry has.

This does not deserve a drop of printer’s ink and is designed to trick the gullible into thinking that Perry has done something wrong or is a hypocrite. Neither is true..

This has been posted and I believe this article is somewhat ‘twisted’ so I’ll ping others who know more about it. He was entitled to the ‘retirement’ from what i’ve read.

May I also add:
time.

- Card-Carrying member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a globalist
think tank
• Will CFR Member Newt Gingrich Renounce: The NWO’s Council On Foreign Relations?
- “Distinguished member” of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies
(neocon, pro-interventionism group)

- Member of Bohemian Grove
- Member of the World Future Society
- Voted for NAFTA, a blatant circumvention of Congress’ exclusive power to
regulate commerce with foreign nations. Took power from American people and
put it into the hands of unelected Binational panels, made mostly of
foreigners.
- Supported GATT
- Supported WTO
- Continually supported increased federal spending.
• Obama’s New York City’s Museum Of Hate Art: Easter Celebration ~ The Pope’s Toilet & Piss Christ, Tax Payer’s Money Working For Hate
- Supported the National Endowment for the Arts;
- Voted for the creation of the Federal Dept. of Education in 1979 under
Jimmy Carter.
- Big supporter of Foreign Aid — even to Soviets through the Export-Import
Bank.
- In one year (1994-1995) Gingrich voted for nearly $45 billion in foreign
aid.
- He helped push through Federally-funded loan guarantees to Communist China.
- He voted to raise the debt ceiling four times (one, two, three, and four).
- Urged the House to repeal the War Powers Act and give the Presidency more
power.
- Urged Clinton to expand military presence in Bosnia.
- Supports Afghan War
- Supports Iraq War
- Calls for Iran War
- Supported Clinton’s welfare programs, education programs, labor programs,
and environmental programs, as well as most of his foreign affairs programs.
• Financial Crisis
- Supported spending $30B for the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement
Act of 1994 that shackled gun owners with new restrictions, federalized a
number of crimes, and handed the feds police powers that the Constitution
reserves to the states.
- Voted to give billions of dollars to United Nations “peacekeeping”
operations;
- Pushed for a School Prayer Amendment
- Mentored by Henry Kissinger
• Libyan End Game: Hopes Of The Rothschild’s Federal Reserve: Backstabbing Of The Middle East Arabs –> IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF THE KISSINGER T-BILL DEBT
- Bailed out savings and loan institutions in 1991. $40B Bank bailout
- He was a draft-dodger during the Vietnam War, yet pushed aggressive foreign
interventionism his entire political career, and did say that Vietnam was the
“right battlefield at the right time.”

Now I personally cannot object to all things listed, however, I do object to the circumvention of our United States Constitution which Gingrich has clearly supported by his votes in the past.

Disclosure: Votes have been confirmed in govtrack.us and membership in CFR and Bohemian organizations are confirmed albeit through numerous accounts (v/s a single register).

This is NOT a conservative.

My problem with her list is that it’s too long for people to wade through.

No offense intended, but for that reason I didn’t try to read it because I wouldn’t do it justice.

A list is better if it has a few solid things rather than everything but the kitchen sink.

Just my opinion, of course.

Newt is one of sharpest tongued critics of other Republicans that there is...when he feels like letting loose.

When he wants to keep his massive baggage out of the spotlight he says, oh, we can’t attack each other.

I don’t fall for it.

I look at him with eyes wide open.

Then, I assess what I see.

If you don’t mind, can you tell me where the writer got his impression of Perry’s stance on Social Security?

I know Perry says it’s a Ponzi Scheme that won’t be there for young people who are forced to pay into it. And he’s absolutely right.

He has said we need to allow younger workers different options. He says those on or within a few years of drawing SS need not worry because it will be there for them.

Other than that, I wasn’t aware he had laid out a complete plan for changing the system. Has he?

The part about Perry saying the Government taxes and spends too much??

That part is true...he does say that.

Is the writer denying that the Government taxes and spends too much??

LOL

Your formatting was fine. It was the length, for me. Anyone else want to go through it, go for it.

To each his own, and I meant no offense.

We agree, look at Gingrich, or anyone, with eyes wide open.

But I will not fall for pure propaganda for or against someone either.

I evaluate everything and call them all as I see them.

Perry, a former Democrat who campaigned for Al Gore, is now some kind of model conservative? I’ve seen some pretty damning lists of all his liberal policies in TX too like the Gardasil episode, land grabs, etc.

Most of your stuff against Newt is just total spin and stuff taken out-of-context. Of course we went into debt in the ‘80s. We were trying to outspend the Soviet Union! And just why do you think the stuff about Newt wanting the death penalty for drug dealers is a bad thing? That’s pure conservatism. The people who spread that poison in our country should be treated like rapists and murderers. It’s that stuff that’s helping create movements like OWS and youth that have no ambition and motivation to partake of all that capitalism has to offer.

We also all know the IRS cleared him of the ethics charge about his teaching an “improper” college course that Pelosi and others tried to attach to him. You also seem to think terrorists deserve civil rights. And you’re absolutely lying about him being paid to “halt Congress” from reforming Freddie Mac. Where’s the evidence of that? Not one person has come forward to say he lobbied them. In 2008 Newt said they should not be bailed out.

Your argument regarding Perry being a democrat in 1988 and campaigning for Gore, whom at that time was considered a ‘conservative southern dem’ pro-life etc, has been beat to death and is utterly ridiculously. You don't think Perry is a conservative? Why is that? His record certainly shows it by the way he has governed.

Your attempt to diminish his conservatism fails. And as far as Newt, what conservative is for global warming? He is a complete walking contradiction. His lobbying, his making his millions while being in Congress, shows he is the ultimate 'insider'. Something many seem to want to overlook. Remember, the era of Reagan is dead...just ask Newt

If you don’t mind, can you tell me where the writer got his impression of Perry’s stance on Social Security?

The guy's a lib, typical "journalist." Probably reads Huffington Post or DU.

I’ll go out on a limb here and say that EVERY public school administrator covered by these same pension rules is already doing precisely the same thing.

Why not? To do otherwise would be irresponsible and neglectful of a man’s duty to his family’s welfare. We’re all told to follow the rules, and if the rules are set up to allow us to start drawing an annuity/pension at a certain time, then there ought to be no onus on doing so. Normally, a postponement of benefits would result in higher benefits later, so this would be a decision to be taken after looking at the totality of one’s circumstances. I can’t think of a single reason that I would want my family to suffer as a result of my not taking salary benefits that I am entitled to without question.

Whether school administrator or governor, I can’t find a single thing to criticize here.

Perry is a crony capitalist. We all know he pushed the Gardasil thing because of connections to the drug companies. I refer you to this Freeper post from a Texan discussing his land grab for the “Trans-Texas Corridor”:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2822254/posts#19

Stop lying about Newt. He was never a lobbyist. At the same time you seem to have no problem when Perry hands out political favors to lobbyists. Guess what, lobbying is also called free speech. There is a pro-life lobby just as much as there is a pro-choice lobby. Citizens are allowed to ask their government to do things. It’s when the government does things that hurt the rest of us that there’s a problem.

Science doesn’t mix with politics any more than religion mixes with politics. You cannot evaluate science based on a political bias. I can be a conservative and believe in global warming if I want to. A political party telling me what science I should or should not believe in is no different from the church telling us the world is flat. Newt spoke out in Congress against Al Gore’s cap and trade scheme and has been outspoken about developing all of our energy resources, fossil fuel and otherwise:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9bOfQItB8c

Newt made millions off of selling his books. No different than Palin, his books sold better because his name was well-known, but there’s nothing UNconservative about making money in the free market. For once we ought to have someone in high office smart enough to be a great and popular writer on something like two dozen books who doesn’t need anyone to ghost write them for him.

Absolutely, did you see on Drudge yesterday the story that some school employee in Philadelphia retired with a half a million dollar pension and went back to work the next day?

To see supposed conservatives hand-wave away this scam because “their guy” is doing it is disgusting. These overblown pension schemes are what’s driving government budgets into the red all over the country. It’s part of what Scott Walker and John Kasich are trying to fight the unions on. It’s a totally unrealistic and unsustainable system. Governor Perry now officially has no credibility on the issue whatsoever.

It’s not rocket science, my friend :)

Whichever TWO finish in 5th and 6th Tuesday need to tell their tear-filled heart broken fans, “adios amigos!”

And then head back to Austin and Minnesota, as the case may be.

So I guess the author thinks that all the military retirees who get a second career after retirement should not have taken the money.

This whole “story” is a load of BS. Perry is following the pension rules exactly as they were written and intended.

It looks bad because only two of the statewide-elected employees in Texas are eligible, and out of the two, Perry is the only one collecting it. Even the other person said it looked bad.

It strikes me that the number of statewide elected officials even in a big state like Texas is a rather small number to begin with. Then, how many of these statewide elected officials are of an age and length of service to qualify?

It does not really surprise me that there are only two that qualify. Maybe it does "look bad", and it might not play well politically, but is it wrong?

Good thing he doesn’t live in NM.

Also, to be accurate, Perry is retired from his job as a state legislator, so he isn’t “double-dipping” on that account.

Good, then tone deaf double dipping Perry won’t mind paying back 1.2 M in taxpayer funded personal security costs since he’s been on the campaign trail and he can start coughing up the rent money for that empty 600k/year mansion he isn’t living in right now while failing to govern Texas.

Hey..you know nothing about me so stop telling me what to do. I will do what is right not what you think should be done. If it’s a piece of crap, and it’s wrapped in gift wrap, it’s still a piece of shit when you open it.

Reagan was not referring to globalists and it wasn’t a blanket statement that we should keep our mouths shut just because there is an R behind the name. We’ve had just as many asshole ‘R’s contributing to the demise of this once great nation as we have had ‘D’s.

Don’t you dare tell me to chill out. YOU need to become more concerned with principles than with freakin’ letters.

If you have the guts, which you have shown to be in question, listen to this excellent ad by the RSC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wusgcG4rfo

Reagan's words are timeless and apply just as much today as when he was running. The traitors in this clip happen to dem but Reagan would be appalled at McCain, Graham, Brown, ,Mike Castle, Bennet, Mccowski, etc etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

I'll be damn if I sit silently by because some S.O.B. has an R by his or her name.

NO COMPROMISE! Take your 11th commandment and shove it.

YOU shut up unless you have a solution besides the ‘go along to get along’... Like hell I'll do that.

Your rant is not even worth examining. Crony capitalist my ass.

Perry has been over the 13th (THIRTEENTH) largest economy in the world. In case you haven't bothered to read (you can read can't you?) more jobs have been created in TEXAS than the entire US combined in the past 3 years while the Fuhrer has been _resident.

Perry has signed more pro-life legislation than any former a-hole politician resulting in 12 Planned Parenthood abortuaries being shut down due to lack of funding

Perry is STATES RIGHTS (a.k.a. 10th Amendment)

Perry is 2nd Amendment...no compromise...check out the dead coyote that tried to attack his dog while jogging

Perry has signed TORT reform ...a.k.a. LOSER PAYS and is now an enemy of trial lawyers (the man should have a gold star pinned to his chest because of that alone)

Gov. Rick Perry has received the Defender of Jerusalem Award, which is given to public figures who have demonstrated support and commitment to the state of Israel and its capitol, Jerusalem. (2009)

The Texas State Guard (TXSG) is one of three branches of the military forces of Texas, reporting to the Adjutant General, and under the command of the Governor. The other branches of the State Military Forces of Texas are the Texas Army National Guard, and the Texas Air National Guard.[1][2][3

Gov Perry actually served his country in the Air Force and was a Pilot.

Gov Perry is an expert, just by virtue of being in the state of Texas, in the energy industry in his state and is AGAINST cap and trade.

Gov Perry has vowed to repeal the hideous deathcare A.K.A. Obamacare that WILL kill our economy (along with our infirmed), when it's presented to him.

His family (Anita & in-laws are in the medical field...and they KNOW... the damage that socialized medicine will do to this nation)

And on top of everything else? Rick Perry could kick Barack Hussein Obama's ass from coast to coast...figuratively and literally. WHAT THE HELL ELSE DO YOU WANT IN A CANDIDATE?? Really I want to know, just what the hell else it is you people want from a Presidential candidate? You want perfection? Well even if Christ Himself were running there would be some on FR bitching about that 'love your neighbor' thing.

Newt Gingrich? Michele Bachmann? Ron Paul? Please, for God's sake! We need a PROVEN individual...And it sure as hell is not the others in the field.

Let's truly change this course...this is it ...there will be NO DO-OVERS.

Time to GET SERIOUS

To: lonestar; smoothsailing; Outlaw Woman

lonestar,

This was in the news several months ago and looked at again last fall, and you are right... it IS an annuity he is drawing from.

An annuity is an insurance product which has been paid for by the investor (worker-investor), usually by which the worker has had some of their paycheck held back from their income throughout the years, those salary contributions having been placed into investments throughout those years to earn money.

Then, the earnings of that investment can be used for a life insurance benefit, a survivor’s payment, OR it can be used in retirement instead, being paid out in a lump sum or in monthly installments.

It sounds like Governor Perry chose to draw his annuity investment return throughout his lifetime instead of using it as a life insurance payout.

This is no big deal or even unethical action. If our government ever tells us we can not have the income earned through smart retirement planning investments, we are all in deep water.

Panic mode about Newt??? Tha's a hoot. Newt will have to drop out after tomorrow. He's going to come in fifth or sixth...definately bottom tier. He'll have no way and no reason to go on after that.
