Sad New Year!
"Another Obama administration excuse for the poor US economy".
Yeah, was thinking of posting it, but didn’t want to worry fellow FReepers.
A bit unusual, it came in 2 or 3 waves... lasted for about 1 minute from where I am. All is well on my side though... I hope the other FReepers here are ok.
Tokyo: A major 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Tokyo Sunday, Japan’s Meteorological Agency said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injury and no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake struck at 2:28pm (0528 GMT), the agency said. Its epicentre was located near Torishima, an island about 560 (350 miles) south of Tokyo. It was about 370 kilometres (230 miles) deep.
The mid-afternoon quake swayed buildings in Tokyo but it did not disrupt the final of the Emperor’s Cup football tournament under way at the National Stadium.
Minutes before the quake, I told my
daughter I expected one on New Years.
Father God... please protect Japan.
IN JESUS NAME!
But it is 216 miles deep
The end of the world is the worst way to start the new year
The Meteorological Agency says the offshore quake Sunday struck about 370 kilometers (230 miles) below the sea surface. The agency said there was no danger of a tsunami. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
From what I remember, you have those ‘senses’ at times. There was a 4.0 quake in Ohio today, also.
One good thing it happened during daylight and they have a couple of hours of daylight left to check for any damage.
Bounced me out of bed. No damage in Tokyo though. Must have been rough down in Shimoda.
But, the folks who live in Izu are a bit more used to quakes than the rest of the area.
Possible tsunami danger.
downgraded to 6.8 and with it being 216 miles deep will have very little impact to the surface.
we sure did...shook for a few seconds...we have had eleven in 2011 in Youngstown.
they’ve been thru so much already....
No need for anything unusual!!!
"Possible focal regions for a megaquake that experts say could occur along the Nankai Trough off the southern coast should be doubled in size from previous estimates, according to an interim report compiled Tuesday by a Cabinet Office panel."
Have you heard anything about a plane going down near Tokyo earlier? I received word that the brother of a church member was involved in a crash, and whoever called her to tell her said it was near Tokyo.
We know nothing, and can find nothing.
Nothing on NHK or Kyodo about a plane crash. If there was one close to Tokyo, it would be impossible to keep quiet, so I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you. It’s just 1700 here now. A plane crash would be all over the news.
She has no idea what’s going on, so it’s kind of bizarre. Just thought I’d ask. Thanks!
My thoughts turned immediately to you and I was waiting for your post. You and our others have my prayers.
We hope you continue to be ok.
Amen. God grant it.

Thank you sweetie :)
I am fine, and am relieved to hear from Ronin, he and his family are always the first I think of.. I believe he is on a much lower elevation.
And if I haven’t said it yet, Happy new Year for you and yours :)
Thank you very much, and Happy New year to you and yours ;)
LOL! A keeper
Wheeww. Just a 6.8 (that was close)
Isn’t this the second one in two days?
Very, very far from Tokyo. Very little damage likely. Almost a non-event.
Sorry for getting to the game late.
Japan can’t buy a break. Hope things there are ok this time ‘round.
Nothing listed here yet
Oh no! Those poor folks...prayers for their safety!
More prayers for the Japanese! They need it.
I can’t help but feel that these quakes are leading up to a catastrophic event that will destroy the entire island.
I agree totally.
That’s why nations such as the USA need to position themselves financially and strategically to take care of their own people (such as the USA) instead of the ME. Such an event is going to happen here and we need to have the wherewithal to take care of Americans.
Hopefully there are no residual quakes/aftershocks
While my heart goes out to Japan I agree with you 100%!
I was planning on getting a 2012 calendar before going back to work Tuesday. Maybe I'll wait a while. Might save some money.
Wow, that was one heck of a firework.
There are about 15 7.0-7.9 in the world each year, FWIW: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/eqstats.php
