Wow. How weak is the GOP field?

It's the media polling that lacks the Conservative and TEA Party folks who are actually going to cast ballots come Hades or high water.

Rush gushed for 3 days when Gingrich rose to #1 in the polls. A week later he spend another hour gushing over Gingrich's performance at the GOP debate.

One probably doesn't even have to read between the lines. :)

I would be okay with Newt if only because I think he would be an effective candidate and if we elect enough conservatives to congress to hold his feet to the fire, he would be an okay president.

I would be less okay with Santorum or Bachmann as I don’t see them running good campaigns against Obama.

Ron Paul is not worth discussing, his crazy little following aside.

I keep forgetting Huntsman is running.

“The Rush Limbaugh Show” 12/14/2011

Rush commenting about Newt Gingrich PRAISING the COMMUNIST SEIU union leader Andy Stern in one of his books:

“Maybe disintegrating or deteriorating is the wrong term to describe what's happening, but both these guys, ROMNEY and NEWT are being flushed out in the course of the campaign here. It's why I said yesterday, SANTORUM, BACHMAN, PERRY are all out there, and a lot of people are hoping that one of THEM, second chance, catches fire.
It was the same book where Newt said that FDR was one of the greatest American presidents!”

Rush got an email from the Newt campaign OF COURSE saying it was a mistake and Rush said later he wasn't trying to rip on Newt but the stuff was “out there.”

I never heard Rush ever jump ugly like that on Bachman Santorum or Perry.
He may have come close with Perry over his “heartless” and “racist” inferences about those who want to enforce immigration laws.

Come on Tom!

You must recall me tagging Newt as 80/20 for several years now.

We passed on all the 100% candidates since there are none.

We know that Newt is a genius and will come up with brilliant ideas on the economy, energy, foreign policy and you name it!

We also know that we will have to deal with pictures of him sitting with piglosi and shaking hands with bubba. It's just who he is.!

All we can do is keep the fires lit where he sits and hope he gets it right more than not. He's still a lot better than Rhomneeeeey!

I have seen too many bandwagons and nominees crash and burn. Politics is a delicate game. One has to walk on eggshells while being able to slaughter the opposition kindly.

I would rather be a spectator than be a participant. That way, I can throw eggs at all of them. Where else are they gonna get the eggshells they need to tread lightly on?

Newt is a personal friend of Rush's. He and I both would choose Newt over Mitt.

But he and Levin talk about the REAL conservatives in the race—Perry Bachman and Santorum as preferable because they don't have as "progressive" a record.

If Romney got the nomination you can bet the DNC has ads showing why Romneycare is worse than Obamacare. MA hated Romney when he decided not to run again. Happy New Year

Of course, that is the Dem strategy, i.e., to focus on the Rep candidate and not on Obama and his record and policies Exactly, and I think that's what the rats want. It's one thing to have a candidate who has nothing at all to run on but its another to take his biggest screwup, obamacare, and neuter it as Romney would do.

How much of that is a function of an overwhelmingly controlled Democrat state legislature versus a Rep Governor?

Currently, the MA state legislature is composed of the following: The House has 128 Democrats and 32 Republicans. The Senate has 36 Democrats, 4 Republicans.

Wow. How weak is the GOP field? So far, Palin, Trump, Romney, Bachmann, Perry, Cain, and Gingrich have managed to rise to the top of the lists, only to sink. Now Paul and Santorum are nearing the top.

Conservatives are being manipulated, by the push polls and by the trashing media.

I agree it's not a very good field. That said, the media and the polls push our candidates and then they trash them. Santorum, the new flavor of the month, will be found to be no better than the long list of candidates who preceded him. By that time the process will be complete. We will have three or four trashed candidates splitting the anti Mitt vote, and Mitt with his 30%, will take the nomination.

Why dont you REMEMBER WHO THREW Election 2008?

The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++8 pts. days prior to September 18th, 2008.
So the RomneyTeam attacked Gov. Palin and her children to throw Election2008.

Romney for Obama in 2008

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Some would say that being a participant earns you the right to criticize while being a spectator doesn’t.

Being in a campaign which has national implications I can tell you we have plenty of Tea Partiers who are willing to criticize but not actively do anything. They are big on meetings and short on actions. I find it very troubling.

Hiding behind the not the right candidate for me is just an excuse to stay out of the fight.

Happy New Year

You gotta remember a lot of what Rush does is preemptive strikes on the DBM and the hard left.

If he is presenting damaging stuff about one of our candidates its primarily so it will lose its punch when the drivebys try it later. Then he can say "asked and answered" to their desperate moves to take our guy down while proping up the Kenyan.

Great thread bray.

If we just stick to basics as Rush has stated so many times and many seem to forget, any one of our candidates, weak, strong or whatever the DBM description, would make an infinitely better potus than who or what we have now!!

To forget that is to forget the basics of elections.

Rush isn't endorsing anyone—he and Levin simply tell us what they want in a Republican nominee but never tell us to vote for so and so before the primary process is finished—to do THAT would be an endorsement.

“The Rush Limbaugh Show” 12/13/2011:

“This stuff with Newt and Romney going back and forth is not necessarily all bad because we're getting educated here. (interruption) No Snerdly, it's not all bad. We got BACHMAN, SANTORUM, PERRY out there. We got some GENUINE LEGITIMATE CONSERVATIVES out there!”

Wow. I don't know how you guys do it who watch all these Sunday shows on a regular basis. I want to vomit every time I watch one of these shows. David Gregory today, with Santorum, apparently forgot he was on television, because he was literally arguing his PERSONAL opinions with Santorum. It was pathetic. But I do give Santorum major credit for keeping his cool and not stooping to Gregory's level.

These hosts are out of control with their bias and opinions.

The 2008 election was unwinnable for any Rep and especially so for John McCain, the worst candidate the Reps could have chosen. He became the presumptive nominee of the party with just 33% of the vote. He was pro-amnesty (McCain-Kennedy), pro cap and trade, against drilling in ANWR, and a maverick who sided with the Dems on many issues including restrictions on political free speech as embodied in McCain-Feingold.

The country did not want a third Bush term. Bush and the Reps had become very unpopular with approval ratings in the mid 30s. The 2006 mid-terms, which saw the Reps lose control of Congress, were a harbinger of things to come. The Dems were energized and motivated. The country was heading into recession and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were becoming more unpopular. Unemployment was increasing and a recession was in process.

To say that any Rep threw the election of 2008 is pure nonsense. It was lost the day McCain was nominated. The McCain defeat would have been far worse without Palin. If Romney and his supporters were trashing Palin, they were not very effective. She emerged as a much more powerful and influentional political force as a result of the 2008 campaign.

McCain put the final nail in his campaign coffin when he suspended his campaign to come back to Congress to support TARP. When the Stupid Party nominates a maverick as its standard bearer, the result is preordained.

Whomever the republican nominee is, the media will attempt to destroy. Remember Reagan, the "Amiable dunce"? All Republican nominees will be "dumb", unless, of course, they are "evil", too. And all democrat nominees will be "brilliant".

Last election the democrats had one candidate who was certifiably insane, one is about to be jailed for illegally paying his mistress, another who had failed at "Hillary Care" and had no other accomplishments, and another so stupid that he wouldn't even release his grade school records, much less his college transcripts. Yet there were ALL "brilliant" in the eyes of the legacy media.

All candidates have flaws. The beltway cocoon will amplify the Republican flaws and ignore the democrat flaws. It seems like all you want to do is repeat the media mantra, and tear down any one who will eventually be nominated from our side.

And that’s why I still like Bachmann, she knows it will also take a veto proof majority in the Senate to get rid of the Health Care bill. Anything short of that and we’re stuck with anemic economic growth and the fast downward spiral of Socialism thanks to Democrats, who won’t be able to elude the shambles they leave the country in, even as they know they are getting their free pass for now. The party of the come-back-kid becomes the party of the go-away-kid, 10 years of recovery for each term, and I’m too optimistic according to my father.
