Romney Quotes His Favorite Patriotic Songs and Offers Voters an Interpretation (Mitt Pukefest)
New York Times ^ | December 31, 2011 | Ashley Parker

Iowans have spent the last week getting to know Mitt Romney as presidential candidate, businessman and ... performance artist?

As Mr. Romney has rolled across the state on a three-day bus tour, he has been breaking into song — or at least reciting the lyrics of his favorite patriotic anthems.

“I love that song: ‘O beautiful, for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain,’ ” Mr. Romney said of “America the Beautiful” at a stop in Mason City on Thursday. “If you count corn as an amber wave of grain, why, you have them right here. What a wonderful place this is.”

At a stop in Cedar Falls, Mr. Romney waxed poetic about the history of the national anthem. “I’ve been talking about music lately,” he said. “I happen to love the patriotic songs of America.”

Mr. Romney often eases into the musical portion of his speech while saying how much he loves the country, the unspoken assertion being that he cares for the nation in a way that President Obama never will.

“The president said he wants to fundamentally transform America,” Mr. Romney said on Wednesday in North Liberty. “I kind of like America. I’m not looking for it to be fundamentally transformed into something else. I don’t want it to become like Europe.”

He continued, “I want America to be more like America, if you will. I want the songs, that patriotism we have.” He then began quoting directly from his favorite verses of “America the Beautiful.”

But Mr. Romney is also using the patriotic songs to try to elevate his own political speeches — making them, in a way, more like Mr. Obama’s eloquent and inspiring rhetoric in the state four years ago.

What really gets me is not even the utterly phony "Americana" Mittenisms in which he waxes so poetic about, it's that there are so many voters taken in by the pukefest he's managed to generate here together with the help of the New York Times.

BARF. How about THIS ONE (yes it is an actual song)...
Praise to the Man (orig title JOSEPH SMITH).

1. Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah.
Jesus’ anointed, “that Prophet and Seer,”
Blessed to open the last dispensation;
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

CHORUS.
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven,
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain,
Mingling with God’s he can plan for his brethren,
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

2. Praise to his mem’ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest is his ever great name;
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins,
Stain Illinois*, while the earth lauds his fame.
Hail to the Prophet, &c.

3. Great is his glory, and endless his priesthood,
Ever and ever the keys he will hold;
Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.
Hail to the Prophet, &c.

4. Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man!
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice,
Millions shall know “brother Joseph” again.
Hail to the Prophet, &c.

*this has now been changed to ‘plead unto h’vn’.

I think this is a perfectly fine story about patriotism and our musical and poetie heritege. Why are your panties in a knot?

Blame Romney because you hate his religion, or Romneycare, or his haircut. Don’t take him to task over his fondness for the words of America the Beautiful! That is a such a cheapshot and an unworthy argument. We should all ponder those words more often and sing the secondary verses too).

Yep.
Patriotic - he praises his sons for working for him and not going into the military.
Patriotic - he celibates his “mission” service in France while living high on his dad’s dollar to avoid the draft.
Patriotic - really DADT?, he supports the reversal.
Patriotic - as patriotic as a Ken doll.

Posting anything that has both “The New York Times” and “Mitt Romney” at the top is dangling zot bait no matter what the intent was.

Putting out RINO and Leftist propaganda while saying look at this awful RINO and Leftist propaganda doesn't conceal the fact that one has put out RINO and Leftist propaganda.

We may need to call out the FR Inquisition on this one;)

Because like anything else Mitt does it is a scam to get votes. He isn’t anymore patriotic than our dictator in chief.

NYT-Obama beating the “Vote For Willard - He’s Inevitable” drum.

Leftist Willard is not patriotic. The interview was a stunt.

It’s called schmoozing,and it’s all he’s got.

Schmoozing:the act of mingleing, socializing, or kissing ass in or at an event that you may feel less than comfortable.The pointless evening pursuit of kissing important butts to better ones employment prospects.

I see some important differences. Romney loves his wife, his country, and capitalism. I don’t think Obama does.

The Romneys came to America already Mormons, they arrived here pre-Civil War (1840s) and came to serve Joseph Smith (Romney's own father, the liberal anti-war, GOP presidential candidate of 1968 was born in Mexico, in a radical tribe of Mormons).

No Romney man has ever served this nation in uniform, that is not simply timing and coincidence for 170 years, that is a family with purpose, and with two Presidential candidates in a row now.

This is not a patriotic family

I can see Mittens quoting something else more fitting to his nature ...

"It's easy to grin / When your ship comes in / And you've got the stock market beat. / But the man worthwhile, / Is the man who can smile, / When his shorts are too tight in the seat." A-ha, a-ha, a-ah

Romney loves . . . his country.

Perhaps. The Romney's came here before 1840. In 170 years, no Romney has ever served in the military. And the Romney's fled to Mexico to practice polygamy and returned only because of the 1912 Mexican revolution. That's not Mitt (well, except for military service for Mitt and his sons), but that's the Romneys.
