Rick Perry joined on stump today by Navy SEAL he helped [Marcus Luttrell]

DES MOINES - As Texas Governor Rick Perry makes his final pre-caucus appearances before Iowa voters today, he will be joined on the stump by a figure who’s well-known locally: 2000 presidential candidate Steve Forbes.

....But also joining Perry will be someone who once preferred to live in the shadows: former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell.

He received the Navy Cross after surviving a vicious 2005 battle in which three of his fellow SEALs were killed when they were discovered inside Afghanistan while pursuing a Taliban leader.

Luttrell later wrote about the experience in his book, “The Lone Survivor.” It is being made into a Peter Berg movie due for release next year.

Unlike Forbes, Luttrell isn’t expected to testify today to Perry’s policy. Rather, he will speak to his character.

In a story Perry himself related to me, CNN’s Peter Hamby, and BuzzFeed/Politico’s Ben Smith during a chance encounter at Des Moines’s Django restaurant last night, Luttrell and the governor formed a bond after their own chance meeting on Coronado Island in San Diego.

[MUST be read, big snip]

Over time, Rick and Anita Perry - the parents of two children - offered him a spare bedroom in the third floor of their Austin-area home. (They still are unable to live in the Texas Governor’s Mansion since it was burned by an arsonist while being renovated in 2008.)

Luttrell’s “bed” was nothing more than an air mattress, the governor related.

Perry said he also intervened with Navy Secretary Ray Mabus to get Luttrell the medical and psychological treatment he needed. He ended up being a regular presence in the home for about two years.

In 2010, Luttrell established the Lone Survivor Foundation, which is aimed at helping wounded warriors return home.”

Also in 2010, he got married. And...

There are no stories like this about the current occupant of the White House.

Yet striking in the contrast.... a sick, sad commentary of the media's involvement in the cover-up of Obama's true nature.

I cried when I read your post. I read one of your posts last summer or early fall or so and have kept you on my heart and mind. Your post here reminded me of your situation.

I am sorry you have the cards you have been dealt, but you are an inspiration to me in your journey to make every moment of yours count. Thank you for being a Patriot.

I am encouraged you have decided to support Governor Perry. A man of good character can do a lot for our country. May your vote be used to help America for ages to come.

Blessings to you.

Sincerely,
CAS (casinva)

Completely agree with your estimation of Governor Perry’s character.

May God bless you and give you His peace and strength.

I have to disagree with your statement that Perry still can’t debate well. The early debate flubs were due to the considerable pain he was suffering as a result of (then) recent back surgery. Once he started to heal, his debate performances improved greatly. He’s doing fine in that respect now.

Speaking of debates, I am SO wanting to see THIS Governor Perry take on Barack Obama!

This video is from earlier today and shows Governor Perry wiping the toilet out with Politico’s chief White House correspondent.

That was awesome. This is how you win the war against the obama cheerleaders in the media. You turn the tables on them and call them out on their bias.

Marcus is obviously an excellent judge of character.

Off topic: I think Marcus had some influence in Glenn Beck’s decision to move to Texas.

thanks for the link to that Politico knock down.

More people should be willing to confront left wing news stories over phony stories.

Did that Politico guy look uncomfortable or what?

Go, Gov Perry.

Saw an interview on Fox yesterday, or today, where Perry again stood up and slapped the Fox interviewer down about the Politico story. It was impressive. He was very much in command of the interview. Of course, can't find it on the Fox site.

Also saw Mrs. Perry's interview this morning. She is just so sweet. If we were voting for first ladies, I'd vote for her. This story of how they helped out Marcus Luttrell is just one more example why Perry should be elected.
