Today, the U-T launches a new tradition. Each Jan. 1, we will honor the Person of the Year, an individual or category of individuals with San Diego ties.
We can think of no better way to begin this tradition than by selecting as our first winner the Marine. I even got a call from them this past week and I told them we cancelled it a long time ago as it's biased and just a reprint of the Times or the Chronicle. Maybe they're trying to change? LOL
Thanks for posting this. I have forwarded it to our Marine, currently deployed with the 11th MEU.
Finally! Something that makes sense.
Best tweet of the year went to a guy who said...”I just saw Times person of the year poopin on a cop car in McPherson square”.
Our local paper made Fr. Manship, an advocate for illegal aliens, person of the year.
Nice article. Thanks for posting.
I am a big fan of the USMC! However, I can think of a group located right across Coronado Bay that had a helluva big impact in 2011. Those boys shiver in the mud of the bay and sacrifice their bodies, lives and relationships at a higher rate than ANY OTHER group of service members.
Travis McGee would probably second my motion to nominate the United States Navy SEALs for this honor. Alas, the pick has been made and the Marines do rock, so I am not too upset!
“Maybe they’re trying to change? LOL”
The UT was bought by conservative hotel magnate Doug Manchester about a month ago. He was the one who gave $125,000 to the Prop 8 campaign.
Please re-read my post. I come in peace. This ain’t a pissing contest.
