ATLANTIC, IOWA Rick Santorum really has arrived, it seems. After meeting with voters in a diner here Sunday, Mitt Romney hosted a rare press conference where he was more than happy to take Santorum on in the way he has other surging candidates in the past.
Its a sign that Santorums surging poll numbers have caught the attention of Romney, whos pushing hard to win here in Iowa, a state he wasnt able to win during his 2008 White House run. Anecdotal evidence suggests some voters are choosing between the two men three undecided Iowans I talked to before Romney arrived said Santorum and Romney were on their short lists.
With Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann candidates who have in the past challenged Romney for dominance in Iowa falling off and Ron Pauls surge appearing to be losing steam, its possible that the homestretch here in the Hawkeye State could be a battle between Santorum and Romney.
Heres what that sounds like.

Who knows what’ll happen in the next 24 or so hours. It seems everyone is pretty well writing off Iowa, but it could very well be a good first primary for Santorum.
I could live with Santorum..Especially if he pick a decent VP.
It could happen.
picked not pick.
Agreed. I don’’t love any of the current candidates, but could support almost all of them (Ie. I like certain aspects of them) I feel pretty much the same as Sarah Palin when she gave her interview earlier today.
Santorum’s biggest hurdle, at the moment, may be money, but it seems like he’s gotten a lot of money flowing in, in the the last few days.
Money won’t be a problem if Santorum makes a good showing in Iowa.
It could very well be him and Romney as the first and second place finishers — in what order remains to be seen.
Gotta say the other day I heard someone talking about a Romney/Santorum ticket. For some reason, my first thought was off the photo of the two families together — Romney with his five sons (I don’t know if he has grandchildren) and Santorum with his seven (I think) kids, including a babe in arms, IIRC?
him = he
Santorum for President Ping List. FReepmail Antoninus to be added or removed.
No Romney. No way. No how.
God Bless Rick Santorum and Salvation!!!! Happy New Year!!!
“Money wont be a problem if Santorum makes a good showing in Iowa.”
Romney must be kicking himself that he spent so much money on attacking Newt in Iowa, lol.
