Newt was knocked down by 10 million dollars in negative ads, the Republican establishment, and about 3 dozen dedicated FReepers. Fortunately, he still leads nationwide and has the ability to last longer than Bachmann, Huntsman, and Santorum. Once he absorbs their votes, he will still be viable.

He’s evil, I tell you. Evil.

What a dastardly plot to push up Santorum so that conservatives have a real choice.

Gingrich is 4th because his (latest) wife is an insufferable looking hag.

What’s wrong about it?

Are we just supposed to believe that Gingrich, the two-time (at least) adulterer all of the sudden is the honest conservative in the race?

Of course people were gunning him as a frontrunner. You expected the other candidates (RINO or non RINO) would let him lead the race without challenge? That the MSM is going to attack what they perceive as non-RINO candidate, that is given.

What we have seen, IMO, is a sign that there is no good candidate in the race on the Republican side. Good candidate would stand attacks both from left and right. Inside and outside the party.

I wouldn’t waste my time trying to convince you of anything, Noob.

Yes that was expected, and ads by fellow candidates were to be expected, but attacks from George Will, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter and Charles Krauthammer were not expected or welcome. And demogogic attacks by FReepers were disappointing.

To me, it simply shows the candidate is not good enough to gather all stripes of conservatives or semi-conservatives. I always believe a good candidate will stand any kind of attacks, from left as well as from the right.

You got that right. Newt fought a 10 million dollar smear campaign by Romney’s super pacs (Paul’s too) along with incessant attacks by Fox news. Coulter, Imus, Sabato, etc.

We’ll see who weathers the attacks, I suppose...Newt still leads nationally for now. I disagree that good candidates can weather any attacks, after what they did to Palin 4 years ago, and to Bachmann and Cain earlier this year

Or maybe people remembered how Gingrich squandered the 1st Republican Congress in 60 years?

How Newt Gingrich blew it: An Iowa road map

Ridiculous. I am SO over Iowa already, and they haven't even "voted". HUCKABEE won in 2008, for pete's sake! He was gone 6 weeks later. Meanwhile Newt is even with Romney is Florida. Conservatives will never quit until Romney is defeated, no matter how long it takes. Newt should just announce that neither Iowa nor N.H. mean a thing, and that he will beat Romney like a drum in S.C. and FL.

How often has the person who WON the Iowa Caucus actually gone on to win the Republican nomination? If the answer is ‘not very’, then why is so much ink spilled on the contest there?
