2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

No. It is not a primary, it is a caucus. That means that Republicans choose, not Democrats or independents.

Democrats and independents can switch their registration, of course, in order to participate, but would you really want to prevent that? Some of them are fed up with Obama.

This is by some number Democrat cross over night, we just don’t know how large that number is. Paul will be the beneficiary of such shenanigans, but with open voting allowed it works.

The Millennial vote went overwhelmingly for Paul - 58 percent to 10 percent for Santorum. The Gen X vote is masked by its inclusion with Boomers under 60.

This only goes to show what I have been saying all along: it is old people who think Ron Paul is crazy. The people who have to fight the foreign wars and who are expected to pay for them voted 58 to 10 against Rick Santorum.

What is Iowa going to look like 4 years from now? 8 years from now?

“We’re looking at a 2 man race going forward. Perry vs Romney.”

I think there may be another chance for Perry after he blew it the first time around. He has been improving on the stump. Of all the candidates that have cycled to the top and fell I think Perry has a good chance to recycle to the top again if he can get his act in order on these last 2 debates in the next week or so. If he has another brain freeze then we will be looking at Romney vs Santorum.

I want to boycott FOX tonight. How’s that for resisting the Romney Regime at work?
+++++++++++++
Me too, but that’s what I do every night. Too much Newt bashing. Too much Romney swooning. A big turn-off for me so I gave up on Fox. With FR who needs Fox News anyway

The fact is that CNN generally has better election coverage than Fox. That’s what the family is watching.

Me? Im splitting my time betwee FR and The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich on my iPad.

58% of under 30 vote goes to Dr. Paul
15% to Romney

show that Old Media is no longer relevant.

the under 30 vote

Brought us "cool" Obama in 08.

Now going for cult-like Ron Paul?

What's with this seemingly dyfunctional group of young people?

Is Iowa another open primary? Unbelievable. Why bother? Wouldn’t it be a lot easier if we just asked the Democrats which Republican they don’t want?

YES!

"Voters" can sign up (register) to caucus and vote at the door, including democrats and independents.

Move along.... so much for an "Iowa Republican" Primary.

Fox News is trying SO HARD to dissuade Iowa voters from voting for Newt Gingrich. I am actually going to change to CNN.

These Romneyites are ridiculous.
